AT modern design you can often find interiors with indoors. This effect creates coziness and makes the room more “warm”. But for the sake of such an element, it is completely inappropriate to make a real brick wall where it does not exist according to the building plan. This is expensive, reduces the area of ​​​​the room, and also creates an additional load on the foundation.

Just for such cases, there are decorative panels with imitation brickwork. And if the store option for some reason does not suit you, and there may be a lot of them: price, quality, color scheme, shape, size, etc., then we can bring to your attention a simple and inexpensive way to imitate brickwork with your own hands . And the biggest advantage of this method is that it does not require special skills, such as working with putty and other building mixtures.

To imitate brickwork you will need:

In our example, we will imitate red brick masonry, we will lay it with a spoon with dimensions of 228 × 65.

On a sheet of thick cardboard (packing box) we draw "bricks" of the desired size.

Then we cut the sheets along the marked lines with scissors or a clerical knife and a ruler.

The "masonry" in the interior can be either solid or open to us some kind of image. For clarity, in this example, we took a photo from the calendar. In the interior, this can be a drawing, photo wallpaper, stucco, etc.

We mark the borders of the picture. If the boundaries according to the plan should go under the decorative brickwork, we place the drawing on the wall. We glue, draw, sculpt.

Part of the resulting "bricks" cut in half. This is necessary so that the masonry goes in a checkerboard pattern and looks realistic.

We begin to glue the "bricks" to the surface. This can be done with glue for heavy wallpaper, such as vinyl. You can use PVA glue or any other convenient for you to work with. After some experiments, I settled on this method: construction PVA glue + hot glue gun. If we consider them separately, then the PVA glue dries for a long time and does not immediately fix the bricks, and the hot glue gun, if used without PVA, consumes the rods very quickly. Therefore, we do this: we apply PVA glue to the entire rectangle, with the exception of the corners themselves. At the corners, we apply glue from a thermal gun. Hot-melt adhesive immediately fixes the “brick” in the right place, and PVA securely fixes it within a day.

It is most convenient to start laying from the corner. We fix the first "brick" in the lower left corner.

We will fix the next one at a certain distance, leaving room for an imitation of a 07-10mm seam.

We retreat the same distance from above, starting to lay out the second row. It will start with a half of the "brick", so that the masonry is staggered.

When all the rectangles are glued, leave them to dry for the time indicated in the glue instructions. If this is PVA construction glue, then the drying time will take about a day.

When the glue dries and the “bricks” are securely fixed along the entire length on the wall or panel, we proceed to decorating with napkins. This is to give texture to our brickwork and hide the corrugation of the packaging board.

Napkins are needed dense, of high quality, so that, when soaked in glue, they do not tear or roll up.

With a brush or sponge, thickly apply PVA glue on top of the rectangles.

We crush the napkin in our hands to form folds.

And we apply it to the wall, in the place where the glue was applied. From above with a brush on a napkin we pass glue again.

We select the gaps between the rectangles with a brush or a finger.

Thus, we glue the entire wall. We make sure that there are folds and well-defined gaps - the seams between the masonry.

Let it dry for another day.

When the glue dries and hardens, we start painting.

The color is chosen according to the design. In this example, we are simulating a red brick. By mixing white, orange, red and black paint, we achieve a resemblance to the original color of the brick.

And we cover the "bricks". You can do this with a brush, you can use a sponge, imitating a slightly porous brick structure.

Then we pass with a thin brush the places of the “seams” in the brickwork. The color of the solution is also selected to your taste. But most often it has a slightly grayish tint.

Remember that the paint after drying becomes lighter than it seems in a liquid state. If after drying the color does not suit you, then the wall can be repainted until it acquires the desired shade.

When everything is ready, the folds in the bricks can be highlighted with a darker or lighter paint, thereby giving the masonry a little antiquity and texture.

We apply the paint of a suitable shade with a dry brush on the “bricks”.

Top paint is best varnished to protect the surface from moisture and dust.

Thus, you will get a relief imitation of brickwork. Putty, gypsum and plaster finishes are more durable, but the cardboard method is the fastest and most economical.

After the glue dries, you can paint the surface in any color. As in all previous versions, the seams are made with bright paint using a thin brush. • We paste these strips on the wallpaper, perpendicular to the horizontal rows, placing them in 12.5 cm increments. Moreover, in the first row (from the floor or ceiling), the strip is glued at a distance of 12.5 cm from the corner. And in the second row - at a distance of 6.5 cm from the corner. Moreover, as a basis, it is better to choose not a finely dispersed finishing plaster, but a starting composition with a rough structure. After the mixture is poured into the water, beat the solution with a construction mixer, obtaining a plastic mass.

Next, you need to apply a 5 mm layer of plaster. To do this, take a small portion of the solution from the bucket with a narrow spatula and apply it to a wide tool; turn the wide spatula with mortar towards the wall and, laying it almost parallel to the surface, spread the plaster over the surface to be finished. Repeat this procedure until the entire area is covered with a layer of plaster. You will end up with a sloppy finished surface, which is very good. After all, we are not creating an evenly worn plane, but a texture that imitates the rough edges of a brick.

After application, the solution is allowed 30 minutes to partially dry. During this time, you must apply a masonry grid to the surface using a ruler and thread. And it’s done like this: you measure 7 centimeters from the ceiling on both sides of the wall, then your two assistants pull a thin but strong thread along these marks, and you, holding the middle of this segment, pull the thread and sharply release it, leaving it on the damp plaster well-marked furrow. After that, the procedure is repeated again. And so to the floor.

After 30-40 minutes, the plaster will dry out, but remain plastic, and you can cut horizontal grooves in its body using jointing - a masons tool that removes excess mortar from the masonry joints. It can be made from an old spoon by cutting a semicircular handle to a width of 8-10 millimeters. In addition, instead of stitching, you can use a centimeter-wide carpentry chisel. The process of selecting the groove itself is carried out as follows: press a plaster rule or a flat board against the stuffed line and draw a joint along it, pressing it into the wall. Once you've scratched through the soft finish and hit the hard surface, you can release the pressure. Just do not try to remove a layer of plaster in one pass by jointing - this way you can damage the entire texture by accidentally tearing out more mortar than necessary.

The next step is the formation of vertical seams. To do this, we need a foam brick 12.5 × 6 centimeters, which we will apply between the horizontal seams, outlining the vertical ones. At the same time, one should not forget that the vertical seam of the lower row must be blocked with a brick from the upper one. After the plaster has completely dried (after 1-2 days from the moment of application), you can clean the edges of the bricks with sandpaper, getting rounded edges, like on old masonry. Next, you have to paint the main surface and masonry seams.

As you can see, anyone who can read these instructions and hold a spatula and jointing in their hands can make an imitation of brickwork from ordinary plaster. Moreover, such a finish is carried out at the speed of coloring and gives the same reliable result as facing with decorative tiles. A wall made according to this scheme is not afraid of fire, looks very realistic and is easily removed after such a finish gets bored with the owners of the home. How to prepare a wall for finishing with your own hands

If your goal is a realistic imitation of brickwork, then you cannot do without the wall preparation stage. After all, real masonry gives a flat surface (if it is built by a skilled bricklayer). The idea seems reasonable to replace the expensive “brick-like” finishing tiles with bricks loosened into plates. But you need a brick good quality, without voids, inhomogeneities, underburning or burnt places. In general, a brick is needed expensive. Or old.

How to paint brickwork on a wall

If "wet" or "dusty" work is not your forte, but you know how to draw at least a little, you can draw a brick wall. You will need acrylic paints, brushes, a couple of natural sponges, masking tape, thick paper plates for mixing paints. When diluting paints, remember that acrylic paints darken when they dry. And one more thing: they dry quickly, but freshly applied ones can be removed with a clean cloth dipped in water.

The first question that arises is: what solution and from what is needed? Lots of recipes. Here are some options:

Regardless of what you make the solution from, it should be semi-dry, should not flow in any case. It will not need to be leveled, so its plasticity is not important to you, and additives - tile adhesive and PVA - will provide the adhesive ability. Surface preparation

Technology number 1. We use thin tape to draw the seams

On the prepared base, using a narrow masking tape (1 cm or a little less / more), we apply markings. The adhesive tape will mark the seams between the bricks, so we stick it horizontally, at a distance of about 6-6.5 cm from each other. When the horizontal lines are glued, glue the short vertical ones. They are at a distance of 23-25 ​​cm from each other - this is the length of a standard building brick, but decorative ones can be shorter.

Now we take the solution, apply it to the wall. The layers are not the same, the thickness is 0.3-0.5 cm. We apply it according to the “how it goes” type, without achieving a flat surface, smooth transitions ... As it turned out, let it be so. We do not allow only obvious bald spots through which the wall glows. We filled the area, took a flat trowel (grater), slightly smoothed out what happened. Leave until it dries slightly: so that when pressed with a finger, the composition is slightly squeezed.

We apply the solution without caring about the beauty and the same thickness

We hook the ends of the horizontally glued strips of adhesive tape anywhere (when sticking, leave the “tails”), pull, remove along with the solution stuck to the tape. We remove the entire network. The edges of the "bricks" in this case are torn uneven. This is fine. Even good.

We take a toothbrush or a paint brush with fairly stiff bristles. We go through the seams with a toothbrush, removing the remnants of the solution. At the same time, the edges of the bricks are rounded. Then we take a wider brush and go through the surface with it, adding naturalness, removing too sharp edges. Leave to dry at room temperature for about 48-72 hours. Forced drying is impossible - it will crack. Although, if you want to have cracks ... If the composition has not been dyed in bulk, it's up to painting.

Technology number 2: cut through the "seams"

This method of imitation brick for interior decoration takes less time: no need to glue adhesive tape. We apply a solution to the surface of the wall. Everything is exactly the same as described above, only the layer can be thicker - up to 0.8-1 cm. After waiting for the solution to "grab" a little, we designate the seams. Here again, there are options:

The second option is more accurate. But you have to be careful not to be too flat. Although, due to the fact that the hand trembles, the seam “walks” slightly, which gives a more believable look.

Having done the horizontal seams, we proceed to cutting the vertical ones - also by hand. The width of the bricks is about 6 cm, the length is around 23-25 ​​cm. When finished, we wait 12-14 hours. Until the composition is set enough to be picked off. When, with strong pressure, the concrete begins to crumble, we take a wide screwdriver (usual, which is a “spatula”) and pick out the mortar between the cut strips with it.

In the process…

When the seams are cleaned, we take a hard brush or brush, remove the remnants of the solution, crumbs. The bristles on the brush should be fairly stiff. If the solution is dry, you can try more drastic measures - a metal brush.

Technology number 3: seams with a saw

This way to make an imitation of brickwork for interior decoration differs only in that instead of a knife we ​​take an old hacksaw blade.

After waiting until the mortar sets and does not creep, with the help of a saw we mark the boundaries of the seams. Here you choose one of the methods described above. But you don’t have to wait any longer: with a hacksaw, you paint the seams a little. It is quick to make long horizontal seams, but with vertical ones it is not very convenient, since the canvas is not very suitable for small distances.

From afar and you won't understand that it's just an imitation of a brick

This method is good because there is no danger of "overdrying" the solution. You can do the "joint" as soon as the solution hardens a little. In this state, it is easier to round the edges of the bricks, giving them a natural "old age". Minus - you have to adapt, otherwise you can do things.

We make a mold for casting brick tiles from gypsum

Another imitation of brick for interior decoration in an apartment or house can be cast: you can do it yourself plaster tiles in the form of bricks. To do this, an impression is taken from interesting specimens of bricks (a mold is made to form an artificial finishing stone), then a gypsum mortar is poured into it. The resulting tiles are used for wall decoration. This technology is good because it allows you to prepare several forms in which you can make bricks. different colors for different rooms.

Recently, a white brick wall has become fashionable. If you are going to do just that, there are no problems: seams with a brush, the surface with a roller. If you want to have a not too monochromatic color, add a little tint to the base coloring composition - gray, brown, yellow ... or at least pink or blue. Paint with this paint. Add more white to the rest and add highlights with this lighter composition using a semi-dry roller, sponge, brush. From the author: welcome to our cozy repair and construction portal, dear reader. Not so long ago, a friend turned to me for advice on how to finish the walls in the hallway. A brick wall seemed to him the most optimal solution. So we began to talk about how to make a brick wall with our own hands in an apartment.

The first and perhaps the simplest solution was the following: leveling the walls with drywall (gypsum plasterboard), and then sticking wallpaper, the texture of which would imitate brickwork. We began to sort through the possible options further. To be honest, we considered all the ideas, even the craziest ones. For example, for fun, I suggested that he knock off the old plaster from the walls to expose the brickwork, and then cover the wall with a primer and varnish. But to recreate the interior in loft style this way was not part of our plans, so we decided to leave this idea for another occasion. And now we will consider the most likely solutions to the issue, one of which you can apply in your apartment, if the idea of ​​\u200b\u200bbrick wallpaper or a demonstration of real brickwork is not included in your plans either.

Preparing walls for applying "brick" decor

It goes without saying that everything starts with the preparation of the work surface, because decorating walls that are not properly prepared is pure hack work. And surface preparation means first of all - alignment. If you decide to use GKL for leveling, then special surface preparation is not required: we simply mount the frame, and fix drywall sheets on it, putty joints and fixing points with self-tapping screws - and now, you can already apply decor to the surface.

But in some cases, the GKL, together with the frame, "steals" too much usable space from the room. For example, in a small hallway or a tiny kitchen, which are often found in houses built Soviet period, - such a solution would not be the most correct. And the walls in such houses, as a rule, are not particularly even.

In this case, a suitable solution would be puttying or plastering the walls along the lighthouses. To begin with, we should clean the wall, that is, remove everything that will interfere with further work (for example, pieces of old plaster that are not firmly attached). Then we apply a layer of penetrating primer to the wall.

The primer promotes better adhesion, that is, the adhesion of the working surface and the finishing material applied to it. In addition, it has antiseptic properties, in other words, it serves as a protection against fungal colonies (in other words, from mold).
