How to make a lamp from improvised means. Master class on making a floor lamp from improvised means

A chandelier is an important element of the interior. Handmade lamps look especially original and beautiful. There are many ideas for creating unusual chandeliers that outwardly are in no way inferior to expensive designer products.

However, in order to create a high-quality beautiful thing, you need to decide on the materials, style, and choose the most appropriate technique for creating a lamp. In order for the work to meet your expectations, follow the instructions without missing a single item.

If desired, the master can make a design with a remote control.

The frame is the basis of the lighting device, on which the ceiling or decorative elements are located. It must be durable. You can make it yourself or use a frame from old chandelier. As a homemade base, use a thick metal wire, wooden slats, hoop, basket, plastic bottle, etc.

The choice of material for the base depends on the weight of the ceiling, the materials used. If you are creating a chandelier from paper or light fabric, then a plastic or wooden frame is enough; for models with heavy shades (metal, glass), it is better to use metal bases.

We reanimate the frame from the old chandelier

If you have an old chandelier with a metal base in your pantry, feel free to use it to fulfill your fantasies. If the material is a little rusty or the paint has peeled off - it does not matter. Alkyd enamel, acrylic paint or spray enamel will help to solve this problem. Simply repaint the base any color you like to give an old chandelier a new lease of life.

Alkyd enamel keeps on metal for a long time, but it has a pungent odor. In addition, several layers will need to be applied to the base so that there are no bald spots. Acrylic is great to lay down, but to keep it, after drying, you need to apply a layer of varnish. It is very easy and quick to paint enamel from a spray can, but it is better to do it on the street or cover all surrounding surfaces with paper in advance. The choice is yours.

After drying, decorate the base decorative elements or put on a homemade cover.

How to make a new one with your own hands: options and step-by-step instructions for making

Wooden chandeliers look original and natural. The finished frame can be decorated or left in its original form.

Step by step instructions for creating a wooden frame:

  1. Take 12 rails (length - from 30 to 45 cm), sand them with sandpaper.
  2. Make holes for the wire.
  3. Make holes in which you want to fix the shades.
  4. Treat the workpiece with paint with a touch of natural wood.
  5. Connect the planks with self-tapping screws into a suitable design, for example, a hexagon.

To create a wire frame, a strong carbon wire (diameter 1.5 mm) is used. If not, then use a material made of aluminum, cast iron or copper.

First, a thick wire base is created, it can be round, geometric or fantasy designs. It is desirable to supplement the base with stiffeners. You should also make a mount under the cartridge.

The frame can be made from a plastic eggplant with a volume of 5 liters. To do this, cut off the bottom of the container, and then decorate with decorative elements.

What are the techniques for making ceiling lights

Ceiling lamps can be created using the technique of origami, carving, embossing, decoupage. Lamps made using the knitting or weaving technique also look very beautiful.

Original origami chandeliers will be a great addition to a modern interior.

Important! When creating an origami ceiling do not use very thick paper, as it will not transmit light well.

If you are into crochet, then use a few doilies as the base for the lampshade. This chandelier looks amazing and can be hung in the bedroom to create an intimate atmosphere.

Homemade chandeliers with a pendant lampshade consist of a frame and decor (paper butterflies, beads, wax paper, artificial flowers, etc.). These elements are attached to the fishing line with glue, and then fixed on the base.

Very popular among home craftsmen are chandeliers, which are created from a certain material (threads, glue, special paste, ropes, etc.) and a balloon.

Ceiling lamps made of fabric can be painted with acrylic paints, apply decoupage technique or place any decorative elements on the material.

What can you make a chandelier at home

A do-it-yourself chandelier is created from different materials:

  • paper;
  • threads;
  • CDs;
  • bottles (plastic, glass);
  • cardboard;
  • napkins;
  • tree, etc.

The selected material should have the characteristics you need: safety, aesthetics, practicality, ease of maintenance, strength, durability, etc. In addition, the chandelier must match the interior of the room. Also consider the size of the room and the height of the ceiling. If the ceiling is low, then mount the lamp on the bar, but if its height is from 3 m, then a suspended structure that needs to be hooked is suitable.

For homemade lamp an energy-saving light bulb is more suitable, since it does not heat the case as much as a regular one. An added bonus is energy savings.

Advantages and disadvantages of materials for decorating a do-it-yourself chandelier ceiling

When choosing a material for a chandelier body, focus on aesthetic properties and technical specifications. It is recommended to use materials that do not contain toxic substances because they expand when heated.

Give preference to materials for the ceiling, which are easy to care for. For example, fabric lamps collect dust faster, and plastic is easier to wipe with a rag. And the paper case can be quickly replaced.

The choice of material also depends on the degree of illumination of the room. Transparent glass transmits light best. And for a bedroom or a children's room, it is better to make a chandelier with subdued light.

How to make a lampshade for a lamp with your own hands from threads

Such a lamp will become a creative and unique decoration of your interior. It will easily fit into both the kitchen and the bedroom with the living room.

So, what you need: a balloon (you need to take into account the size and shape of the inflated balloon, because the shape of the lampshade will depend on this), thick cotton threads (twine is better), PVA glue about 250 gr., A cord-suspension that will hold the lampshade, Powersave lamp, scissors, a needle, any cream, a brush, a cotton pad, and a cotton swab.

Step 1. Inflate the balloon to the desired size and tie it securely.

Step 2 Using a cotton pad, lubricate the ball with any cream so that later it is easier for the threads to detach from the base.

Step 3. Thread the needle and pierce the glue bottle through. Wind the thread around the ball as you see fit, however, do not pull it too tight.

Step 4. When all the threads are wound, go over the glue a little in those places where it is not enough. Now the lampshade is almost ready and should be removed to dry overnight.

Step 5. In the morning, take a dried lampshade and start pressing the ball with a cotton swab to help it separate from the threads. Carefully and most importantly, slowly blow off the ball, because by doing it quickly, you risk creating a dent on the lampshade with your own hands.

Step 5. Mark the future hole and make 4 cuts in all directions so that the bulb with the cartridge can enter the lampshade.

Finally, you need to insert a cartridge with a light bulb, and carefully attach the lamp holder between the threads. The lampshade is completely ready, now it remains only to hang it in the room that you have chosen and enjoy the results of your creativity.

Original idea: thread lampshade

    Save

Threads are another very beautiful and simple material at hand that can be used to make a beautiful DIY chandelier. You will get a very unusual ceiling.

Ceiling chandeliers - lighting devices that perform two functions at the same time. Firstly, they are used to organize the main lighting in the room. Secondly, devices are one of the main elements of the decorative decoration of the room.

Numerous manufacturers offer equipment of different designs, but it is far from always possible to find something really worthwhile that fits into the overall interior of the room. In other situations, the cost of the chandelier you like may be too high. That is why many people are interested in how to make a ceiling lamp with their own hands.

Handmade products will be unique and original, thanks to them you will be able to express your taste and character. It is not so easy to make such devices on your own. The work requires a certain imagination and perseverance. On the other hand, a ceiling chandelier can be created from improvised means and items that have become garbage for you.

Choose any materials for manufacturing - wood, plastic, metal or glass. Chandeliers made of wine bottles, wooden skewers or straw look very original. To summarize: the choice of material for a homemade lamp completely depends on the imagination and idea that arose in the head of the owner of the apartment.

Varieties of lighting fixtures

The final stage of any repair and construction work will be the purchase of lighting fixtures. Often the main one is the ceiling chandelier, which is installed in the center of the room, provided it has the correct geometry. There is a wide range of luminaires on the market that differ in design, shape, principle of operation, and even the presence / absence of certain structural elements.

Today, all people strive to save money, so it will be important to use a chandelier for energy-saving or LED bulbs. It is advisable to choose products with partially or completely closed shades, in which lamps are hidden. Due to this, you will protect the ceiling structure and be able to protect yourself in the event of a light bulb explosion (the fragments will remain inside the ceiling).

If you still like a chandelier with an open arrangement of light bulbs, then inspect it and make sure that after installation the luminous flux will be directed downwards. There is also a simple rule - the simpler the product, the easier the subsequent installation.

Another point to consider when choosing a chandelier is the purpose of the room and its dimensions. In spacious rooms with high ceilings, volumetric pendant-type lamps should be installed. For small spaces, space savings are required, so focus on flat (flattened) options.

Conventionally, chandeliers for the ceiling can be divided into two main varieties:

  • classic hanging;
  • flat with the closest placement to the ceiling.

And the latter are divided into two subcategories - built-in and overhead. Overhead shades are considered the best solution for bathrooms, corridors and kitchens. The presence of a separating platform ensures their rapid cooling and high fire and electrical safety.

Recessed lights are also called spotlights. They are often installed (more correctly, they are built in) in furniture, suspended ceilings or arched structures. Manufacturers provide a wide variety of shapes, colors and design solutions for both traditional and flat luminaires.

Finally, in addition to design features the fixtures themselves, distinguish between the type of light sources used:

  1. A filament lamp is one of the most common and simple options. The cheapest light source. Under mechanical action, it quickly fails due to the vulnerability of the structure, burns out relatively soon (in the case of continuous operation, it can burn out in two to three days).
  2. Energy saving lamp daylight- one of the best varieties of housekeepers. Advantages of a product are connected with profitability and long service life. Along with LEDs, it is the most common light source in developed countries.
  3. The LED lamp is an expensive product, the popularity of which is increasing every year. The efficiency factor exceeds 90%, and in the case of high-quality devices it reaches 98%. They are characterized by a longer service life and increased reliability.

An example of a homemade lamp

Consider one of the most simple examples handmade ceiling lamp

For the manufacture we need:

  • 5 l plastic bottle;
  • plastic spoons - their number depends on the dimensions of the bottle, which will become the frame;
  • quick-drying adhesive for plastic;
  • sharp knife;
  • cartridge with wire.

To begin with, a frame is prepared from a plastic bottle. Remove any labels from the item, rinse and dry thoroughly. After that, feel free to cut out the bottom. Cut off all the handles from the plastic spoons, but so that small pieces of 2 cm remain.

Glue the resulting scraps with “scoops” onto the base of the frame from a plastic bottle. To do this, we just need the remaining pieces of handles, which need to be poured abundantly with glue and pressed tightly to the surface (the convex part of the scoop should look out). Tape the container in a circle until the entire surface is hidden. Ideally, the spoons are placed in a checkerboard pattern, followed by a shift for a tight fit and no visible areas.

Cartridges with wiring can be removed from some old chandelier, then installed and fixed in a new product by pulling the bottle through the neck. A decorative bowl can be decorated with the same blanks using glue and placed on the neck.

To make sure that the product is working, at the final stage, screw the light bulb into the lamp and connect it to the power source. If successful, it remains to install the chandelier on the ceiling.

For a more stylish design and change of colors, you can paint plastic spoons. This will increase the originality and attractiveness of the product.

Style selection

In addition to the points listed in the first chapter of the article, when choosing a chandelier, you need to focus on a certain style. This is also true for those cases when you decide to make the product yourself. Comfort, coziness and how pleasant it will be to be in it depend on the interior created in the room.

The ceiling chandelier is the main element of the decor, therefore, with a competent approach, the perception of the environment will improve, with a careless one, it will completely deteriorate. As you know, “breaking is not building”, therefore, in order to spoil the interior, it is enough to choose the wrong style.

Decide in advance on the design of the future lamp. The most common styles for chandeliers are hi-tech, modern and provence.

High tech

It includes products made of glass and metal. Modern appliances fit perfectly into the design of the bedroom and living room. Externally, the chandelier may look chaotic (with an arbitrary arrangement of decor elements). Great option for people looking to modernize an apartment or a private house, but not wanting to make something too complicated. Any errors made in the manufacture of the chandelier may look like an original design decision.

Modern

In accordance with this style, appliances are made of glass and wood. The ceiling lamp is characterized by perfectly even and clear lines, has the correct geometry.

Provence

The most complex execution, which is suitable for people who understand the principles of hand-made. Various fabrics, colorful ribbons, beads, embroideries can be used to decorate the chandelier. The lamps are gentle, suitable for creating a romantic atmosphere. Provence style lighting fixture is suitable for decorating any living space.

Mounting materials

For ceiling mounting of the lamp, certain materials and tools will be required:

  • the lamp itself;
  • junction box;
  • screwdriver (curly);
  • switches;
  • as an alternative - dimmers (a rotary toggle switch that adjusts brightness, turn on / off the light bulb);
  • wires;
  • electrical tape;
  • indicator (tester);
  • pliers;
  • connecting blocks.

Ideally, electrical wiring should be routed using connecting blocks. If such products are not available, then twist the bare ends of the wires with pliers and hide under a dense layer of electrical tape. The compounds can also be placed under polymer caps. Make sure the wires wrap tightly around each other.

When laying the cable, pay attention to the material from which it is made. It is advisable to twist aluminum with aluminum or copper with copper. When wires from two different materials come into contact, gradual oxidation will occur, leading to burnout and loss of contact.

Work sequence

Before installing the ceiling light, determine the phases of the wires. To do this, you need an indicator screwdriver or a special probe. If you attach the working surface to the phase core, the light bulb will start to glow. Otherwise, the wire belongs to the zero phase.

Next, you need to determine the phases on the wiring of the lighting fixture. Plug two wires into the outlet, but in no case touch the third one. If there are several bulbs on the chandelier, then about half of them will light up. Leave any wire in the outlet and replace the second with a third. The second half of the bulbs should light up. Thus, the wire that is constantly in the outlet (and when connected in turn with the other two turns on the light bulbs) is the zero phase.

Attach the lamp to the ceiling. For this, both a classic hook sticking out of the ceiling and a mounting rail (included with most modern devices) are used. If there is a hook from the old chandelier, it is advisable to dismantle it.

Connecting fixtures

If it is necessary to connect a floor lamp or chandelier with a two-wire cable, difficulties should not arise at all. Simply connect the ends of this cable to the two ends of the wiring. If the lamp consists of several parts and there are more wires, then it is correct to twist them in pairs, subsequently connecting them to the necessary residential electrical wiring in the apartment.

A three-core cable indicates the presence of two normal and one zero phases. Follow the scheme described above to find the zero phase. After that, connect the device to the house wiring.

Traditionally, the zero phase on the lamp has wires with blue insulation, the usual one is brown, black or red. If there are several blue wires, then they need to be connected in pairs, and then connected to the zero phase. Do the same with other colored parts.

Products with four cores are much less common. The latter is intended for grounding and is usually painted yellow-green. It should be screwed to the luminaire body with a conventional screw. Be sure to isolate all connections.

For the manufacture of ceiling lights any materials can be used with your own hands. The main thing is to choose the style and shape in advance and navigate the installation site. Also, before starting work, it is advisable to draw a sketch of the future product. Everything else is limited by your imagination.

Connecting homemade lighting fixtures is carried out in the same way as purchased ones. Using our instructions, you can easily connect ceiling chandeliers with two, three and even four cores. The main thing is not to forget about safety rules and ensure complete insulation of the wires, excluding a short circuit.

There are all sorts of lamps in electrical goods stores - manufacturers go to all sorts of tricks so that each buyer finds exactly what suits him both in design and in his pocket. But a hand-made sconce is still the most original functional home decoration.

Electricity and creativity

Electrical appliances require the manufacture, installation and operation of compliance with all the rules that are prescribed by law, safety standards and the laws of physics. Therefore, if there is no special knowledge and skills to work with electrical appliances, then it is best for creativity to use the base from the old sconce, at least its electric filling. To assemble a wall lamp, as they say, from scratch is only possible for someone who understands the materials, tools for collecting such equipment, knows the section of physics called "electricity", knows how to assemble electrical circuits that meet the requirements for household lighting appliances. If all knowledge about this sphere of life comes down to a successfully forgotten physics course in the school curriculum, then it’s not worth the risk. It is better to use that wall lamp that has been asking for a trash heap for several years. Different types of creativity and craftsmanship allow you to create a sconce with your own hands. Photos of similar works are presented on this page. Therefore, the question of how to make a sconce with your own hands does not require a complicated answer, you just need to turn on your imagination.

Plafond for sconces - the essence of the lamp

Wall sconces perform an interesting functional task - lighting a small area of the room. They are located on the wall, and most often the light from the sconce falls down, slightly scattering on the sides. That is why wall lamps are popular for creating comfort in the bedroom, in the kitchen above the table where the whole family gathers, near the place to relax with an armchair or sofa. Such a local lighting device can have any design in any style - from eco-style to hi-tech. Only the interior of the room decides what the sconce lamp will be like. Therefore, for man-made wall lighting, you can use the most different materials. The only condition is that they must be resistant to a sufficiently high temperature of the light bulb in operation. Although thanks to modern LED lighting devices, this question disappears by itself - the LED bulb during operation heats up to 64 degrees in the lower part, where the necessary lamp elements are located. The flask itself heats up to approximately 33-34 degrees, i.e. you can easily hold it in your hands. That is why LED lamps allow you to use almost any material for the ceiling. Having thought about making a sconce with your own hands, you can refer to materials in available sources or print publications to choose suitable option and for your creativity.

Threads and weaving - a suitable basis for creativity

Different types weaving from threads: macrame, tatting, knitting, crocheting, on a fork - are actively used by needlewomen to decorate the interior of their home. Creating a lace sconce with your own hands for a craftswoman is not a problem, you just need to find a suitable scheme or develop it yourself. In preparation for work, you should first consider the basis of the ceiling. Will the lace be stretched or will it hang down, what shape is the ceiling and how to put the lace on it: observing the pattern, or will it be abstract, or undemanding to a clear correspondence of each rapport. Lace will look very elegant on a rounded ceiling of a classic shape. And for a non-trivial solution for a do-it-yourself sconce lamp, lace can be appropriate. For example, for a high-tech style, you can use Lurex or metallic threads. But even those who do not know how to knit will make a lace sconce with their own hands, using ready-made lace. Measure the frame area for the ceiling and buy the required amount of the material you like with a margin for some shortcomings or unforeseen circumstances in the work - and an interesting, unusual lamp will decorate the room. In general, beautiful lamps are always obtained from threads. Even the chaos created from textiles can be presented in an unusual way, for example, by winding threads around a balloon, having previously coated them with PVA glue. When the threads dry, the ball must be gently blown off by piercing with a needle. The resulting spider sphere is used as a lampshade for a lamp.

wood and light

Wooden objects look very original in any interior. natural wood beautiful - with its pattern, shades and color transitions. Using the natural curves of the branches, you can get interesting objects and their details. How to make a wooden sconce with your own hands? You can use several options. For example, you can take special blanks that are sold in stores for creativity. They are assembled or glued together, forming a ceiling for the lamp. You can try to make an unusual sconce from the most ordinary twigs collected during a walk in the park. Rinse small, 1.5-2.5 cm long twigs, clean them of dirt, and dry. Then inflate an ordinary balloon and stick branches on it in a chaotic manner using glue that does not destroy the rubber of the balloon, for example, building PVA. When the branches are well grasped, the ball must be pierced with a needle, it will deflate and fall behind the resulting ball of branches. The ceiling, if necessary, is covered with furniture varnish. The only thing is that it will be necessary to prepare the base on which the ceiling of the resulting diameter is attached. A lamp on the wall with your own hands can also be made from unusual wooden parts. For example, by disassembling wooden clothespins for spare parts. They are assembled together so that they form a circle, gluing to the base and to each other. Each half of the clothespin has an interesting shape with recesses that are just perfect for a jute cord or decorative braid, chain, or any other material that is most appropriate for a particular interior solution. You can also use colored pencils - creating a chaotic lamp-ball or gluing them into a slender circle or semicircle to form a ceiling.

Sconce with your own hands from dishes?

Craftsmen just do not come up with something to create something interesting. For example, they use disposable plastic utensils - junk cheap material - to create interior items, including sconces, with their own hands. Plastic spoons, cutting off their cuttings, are collected in the shape of a flower, gluing them together in circles and in rows. Disposable forks, also without cuttings, are assembled, like a designer, with the help of cloves into a sphere for a ceiling. The plates are bent, getting two semicircles, and also fastened together. This is an interesting do-it-yourself sconce solution, which is actively used in decorative art.

And you can not throw away!

Unusual wall lamps are obtained from canned cans. Banks themselves already represent a rigid form that is easily suitable for a ceiling. You just need to decorate it. You can do this like this - draw a pattern on the bank like a dot painting and use a nail and a hammer to punch holes according to the pattern. So that the jar does not wrinkle when they work on it with a hammer, you need to put a wooden block inside it. The drawing should be built neatly, and the distances between the holes should be the same. When the drawing is completed, the jar needs to be painted.

An unusual do-it-yourself sconce is obtained from ordinary plastic bottles. They are different color, are easily cut with scissors and melted with a candle. Figures (flowers, butterflies, ribbons) are cut out of plastic, melted, shaped, and then glued to the base from the same bottle or to an old glass ceiling with glue. By the way, a glass ceiling that has lost its appearance can be decorated in any way and give it a second life.

It is good when such a package is covered with a layer of metallized foil from the inside, which is the best suited for creating a lamp.
