The sawmill saws any wood - freshly harvested is better, heavier - dried, as we say - steamed. It is easier to cut coniferous logs, hardwood softwoods - alder, maple, poplar, aspen, harder - elm, ash, oak. It was hardest of all to work with steamed acacia. Very hard, dense wood in this breed.
The sawmill can cut the maximum length of a log with a length of 7 m, the maximum diameter of a log is 40 cm. Sawing speed - it cuts through a 3 meter board from a pine blank with a diameter of 25 cm in 7 minutes. During the day I sawed 12 logs of white acacia, changing three chains.

A mini-sawmill - rather, it is correct to call a sawing machine, is a welded frame made of rectangular pipes 60 X 30 mm. I cut the blanks with a grinder, cooked with inverter welding. All the protruding ends of the pipes were trimmed with a strip.

One pair of racks of the frame serves as a support, a movable frame is mounted on the second pair of racks, on which a steel plate 35 by 35 cm 8 mm thick is reinforced through rubber cushions. Cushions are installed to reduce vibration. Mounted on the plate is a Briggs Series 650 vertical shaft engine with a vertical crankshaft. While it starts and runs smoothly, gasoline consumption (Ai-92) is small. Start - manual, lace.

Aluminum profile A with two streams is pressed onto the motor shaft. The force from the motor is transmitted through two belts of size 750 profile A to a pulley of the same diameter on the cutting bracket. Pulleys with a diameter along the outer edge of 80 mm were adapted from the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor. But on the motor shaft had to be bored by a turner.

The driven pulley through the roller, which rotates on two bearings (204), transmits the force to the sprocket, and then to the saw chain. Manual tensioning of the chain and belts, with fixation in both cases with two bolts and nuts. I put an additional tension bolt on the chain tensioner, but later abandoned it as unnecessary. Just enough force on the tongs to keep the chain taut. I tighten the belts in the same way - I loosen the nuts a little and use a hammer on the end of the bracket, tighten the nuts - and that's it. To facilitate the operation of the chain, it is constantly lubricated with engine oil. For oil, I fitted a nigrol canister (the color matched the paint :)), a faucet from the Druzhba chainsaw.

To set the thickness of the sawn board, a vertical screw is installed, during the rotation of which the frame moves with the saw unit. At first, the size was shown on the ruler. Now I have become an experienced framer and set the thickness by the turns of the screw (like a drunk measures vodka by boules :))

Preparation of blanks

Now is the time to get to work. To begin with, free the area where the sawmill will be located from debris and unnecessary items. It is important that this place is as flat as possible. Therefore, in case of an uneven surface, it is highly recommended to level it.

Now take two main channels and at the same distance from the edge along the length (about 1.5 m), drill the same holes with a puncher. Further from the holes, the same distance is measured along the entire length, markings are applied and drilling is performed in the same way. As a result, you will get several holes. The main thing is equal distances between them and keeping them parallel on the channels relative to each other.

Now you need to count the total number of holes. And in the same amount, prepare pipe sections. The length of each tube is approximately ¾ of the length of the channel. But the thickness can vary from 2 to 2.5 cm. The connection with the channels is made using bolts, for which holes are drilled in advance with a puncher.

Production and fastening of racks

Next, you need to make racks on which the tool will hold. Ideally, you should get 4 identical thick racks that are fastened to the channels using all the same bolts or welding machine. If the expected length of the unit is large, more racks can be used for reliability. Here you have the right to decide for yourself.

But before fastening, you need to install the frame on the racks. Carefully ensure that the posts are at a distance of about 0.8-1 m from the edges of the bed. After that, you can safely connect the bed with the racks in the manner described above.
