The Great Russian Wall: why we love to fence ourselves off from each other so much. Fencing the site - how to make a reliable inexpensive fence Why do we need fences in the city

Today, the installation of any fence around any territory is performed for several reasons. The main reasons for installing a fence are:

  • delimitation,
  • safety,
  • increasing the aesthetic value of a particular landscape design.
Thus, three main reasons have been identified for which modern fence structures are being installed today.

Before you begin work on installing the fence, you should accurately determine its further value - and only then select the type of fence. Especially since there are so many of them now. The fence can be made of any material, and also have different shape and size. The functionality of a modern fence absolutely depends on which building materials it is produced. For example, for fencing tennis courts or areas with various industrial facilities, fences made from a material - chain-link mesh are best suited. If your plans included a noise-reducing fence, then you should choose a building material for its construction that is more reliable, dense and practical. Building a fence can cost you a pretty penny. Therefore, before choosing one or another material for the fence, you should accurately determine the functionality of this product. The fence must have an aesthetically superior appearance, in harmony with external environment And landscape design created on the site.

After the style of the fence is chosen, it is necessary to decide on the material from which the fence will be made. It should be noted that the choice of building material, to some extent, depends on the architectural style of the facade. So, for fencing areas where there are brick structures, welded iron fences are suitable. If on the site erected wooden house or a building in a traditional architectural style, in which case the best option will be a fence made from natural wood.

To date, they have begun to use quite widely - hedges made of shrubs, bamboo or other plantings. Such a fence blends perfectly with the environment and looks great with buildings in Asian architectural style. But also, the fence can be made of brick, natural stone and concrete, today these are the most popular materials. In addition, metal fences are also quite popular. It can be either welded fences, with artistic forging elements, or fences made of profiled steel sheets or mesh netting. The most affordable modern building material for the production of fences is natural wood. Moreover, today in the Russian construction markets you can choose the most suitable wood for your purposes. Nowadays, wooden fences are used on the territory in order to ensure the safety, protection of children and animals. The only drawback of such a fence is that they are very demanding to maintain.

For the construction of wooden fences, wood additionally treated with special septic tanks is well suited. If you choose a tree as a fence, you should be aware that a fence painted in any color needs an annual renewal of the paint layer. If the fence is made of unpainted natural wood, it needs regular treatment with antiseptics in order to extend its life.

The most durable, practical and durable at present are metal fences. The cost of such fences is quite high, respectively, not everyone can afford them. The most inexpensive option for a metal fence is a chain-link fence. Such fences are distinguished by high strength, practicality and durability; chain-link mesh can be zinc or plastic coated.

Fences for giving

Nowadays, fences perform not only the function of protection, but also a decorative function. The appearance of the fence directly affects the landscape composition of the site.

Aesthetically attractive fences and fences for suburban areas began to be widely used only in the last 10 years. It is also worth noting that country fences at all times carried the style of the era in which they were used.

So, I propose to figure out what kind of country fences our compatriots have used since the sixties of the last century to this day. The period from the sixties to the seventies can certainly be called the era of the dominance of wooden fences and fences.

It must be noted that wooden picket fences could be found in almost any Soviet dacha, it was also in demand in the villages. At that time, almost all suburban areas were fenced with wooden fences. wooden fences widespread and in demand today. The only drawback of the fences of that time was that they very quickly lost their original appearance, since wood is not a protected material from negative impact environment. But using special paints and varnishes that protect wood from decay, this can be avoided. Despite the fact that at the present time, fences and fences made of decorative combined structures are quite in demand, where pillars made of concrete or brick are used as supporting structures, the spans between such pillars can be wooden, forged or from profiled steel sheets or netting nets.

Today, such fences are usually preferred by architects and designers, as they make it possible to realize the most seemingly unrealizable projects and solutions. In addition, such fences are very strong, reliable, and durable. But all these qualities are very important when choosing one or another fence.

But in the 60-70s of the last century, not only wooden fences were in use, but also fences made of mesh netting. True, it should be noted that the chain-link mesh at that time was not a very popular product, it was not always possible to find it. Therefore, summer residents themselves made such a grid of aluminum wire. To date, getting such a grid is not difficult. Such a product is made of high-strength steel wires with a special polymer coating. This coating protects the material from environmental influences. From such a fence you can make hedge if you put climbing plants on it. In the 90s of the last century, fences made of ordinary concrete slabs were especially in demand. In those years, strength and practicality were required from the fence, and there was no question of decor.

concrete fences, which do not carry any decor, have remained in the past, just like the echoes of the dashing nineties of the last century. Today, fences are characterized by high strength, while having aesthetic value. Each fence is chosen in such a way so as not to violate the architectural integrity of a particular structure.

Particularly in demand, as mentioned earlier, combined fences from high-strength support pillars and spans, made of wooden picket fence, profiled steel sheets, forged gratings, chain-link mesh and other other materials.

How to choose the right fence

Throughout the past centuries, the primary task of fences and barriers has been to ensure the safety of people. Today, the original task has changed somewhat. Now the installation of fences is necessary in order to clearly define the boundaries of a particular area. Therefore, it should be sensibly understood that even the most massive fence will never become a 100% guarantee of your safety. In European countries, fences have long been abandoned, replacing them with hedges, various shrubs that blend perfectly with the environment. In Russia, hedges are not yet in such demand, but there are fences that fit perfectly into the environment. Today, the production of fences is carried out from different building materials. For example:
  • stone,
  • metal,
  • brick,
  • corrugated board,
  • Rabitz,
  • natural wood,
  • and many, many others.
You will only have to choose one or another material. This usually depends on the purpose of your fence and how much money you are willing to spend.

Before choosing one or another material, you should make sure that this fence will be in harmony not only with the environment, but also with the facade of a building.

For people who have areas with significant height differences, retaining walls made of natural or artificial stone, they will make the site more even. Otherwise, forged fences with boulder pillars will destroy the harmony of the created composition.

Today, welded and welded fence structures with forging elements are in great demand. The installation of such fences is carried out with special support pillars made of brickwork or concrete. In such a situation, pillars and a plinth should have special strength. These elements of the fence construction are made from high-strength building materials. For example:

  • concrete,
  • brick,
  • a natural stone.
The distance formed between such pillars is compensated by openwork forged gratings, or sections made of natural wood or profiled steel sheets.

If you chose a combined brick fence to protect your suburban area, you will have to take care of the facing material used. It is necessary that it be distinguished by high strength and durability, which will protect this fence from the negative effects of the environment. Fences with concrete pillars can be an excellent option. The advantage of such pillars is the variety of shapes, plus they are more durable. The service life of such poles exceeds fifty years.

For fencing the area on which the timber or log house, a natural wood fence would be a reasonable option. Such fences are distinguished by an affordable price, which makes them more in demand in Russia.

Secrets of installing wooden fences

Today there are a huge number various kinds fences, widely used in suburban suburban areas, as well as in other places. The most demanded fences from:

  • netting nets,
  • profiled steel sheets,
  • natural wood.
In this article, we are ready to share with you some of the secrets of installing wooden fences.

A wooden fence should combine two qualities at once: - strength and aesthetic appeal. Such a fence has been widely used in our country for several centuries. Still, some two decades ago, such fences were common in villages. And today they are widely demanded in cities. Natural wood has a number of undeniable advantages: high aesthetic value, naturalness, environmental friendliness. And the use of modern technologies (special mortar and paint coatings) allows you to preserve the original appearance of a fence made of natural wood for a long time.

Natural wood, which we talked about in this article, is not only an environmentally friendly material, but also has a great appearance and is very pleasant to the touch.

Advantages of wooden fences.

1. Natural wood does not heat up under the influence of bright sunlight. In other words, a tree in any conditions has a pleasant temperature, in the cold it retains heat well, and in the heat it does not heat up, without causing discomfort when in contact with it.
2. The natural wood fence does not require much maintenance, and the repair is easy. In the event that any part of the wooden fence breaks, it is replaced by a new one, even more attractive and durable.
3. Wooden railings can have any ornament you like. Such fences with an unchanged pattern look great. natural wood. But despite this, wooden fence can be dyed in any color. Shtaketiny can be located both horizontally and vertically. The shape of the top edge can also be any.
4. Another advantage of natural wood fence is that it blends perfectly with any other material. Be it natural stone, brick or metal.

It should be remembered that such a fence made of natural wood needs regular application of special coatings. With this coating, this product can be protected from the adverse effects of the environment.

As a rule, the process of installing wooden fences is carried out in stages. The first stage is the preparation of holes for special support pillars. The distance between dug-in and concreted pillars should not exceed two and a half meters. The depth of the pit should not be less than 1.2 meters. After the installation of the supporting pillars is completed, the production of special crossbars begins, on which the pickets of our fence will subsequently be installed.

When we bought our land, it only had outdoor toilet and wagon. After relaxing in the trailer in the summer, open on all sides to the curious looks of the neighbors, they realized that the fence was no longer a luxury, but a necessity.

The chain-link mesh fell off immediately, you can see everything through it, and you can’t call the area with it isolated. The wooden fence was also rejected by us due to its fragility. We were planning to build a house, and by the second year of owning our land, we had lost the gas generator and part of the bricks, so we urgently needed to come up with something more reliable so as not to lose the pump in the well. Laying a brick fence was an expensive pleasure, so the most budget option for us was found in the face of a profile sheet fence. I wanted something like this:

Since we wanted to have a beautiful appearance of the front of the fence, we also had to resort to brickwork. And this is what we got:

Before proceeding with the construction of the fence, let's talk about what corrugated board is and why it is good when building a fence. The professional flooring is the hot-dipped galvanized steel covered with polymeric substances. Galvanized steel sheets are rolled in a press and coated with a layer of anti-corrosion agents, then with a primer and protective varnish (inside) and a protective polymer coating consisting of polyester, matt polyester, pural, etc. (outside).

Depending on the purpose for which the corrugated board is used, it is divided into types:

  • Used for mounting walls and fences (galvanized) - C (C18, C21, C10, C8)
  • Used for roofing - H (H60, H57, H44)
  • Profile sheet used for wall fencing and roofing - HC (CH44, CH35)

Different types of profile sheets have different wave heights: 8-158 mm. For example, the sheet used to build a fence has a shorter wavelength, so if you use it for roofing, the roof can accumulate water and, as a result, leak. Sheets for roofing have a longer wavelength and grooves to remove moisture. At the same time, their bearing capacity is higher than that of the profile for walls and fences. This allows you to hold the snow well without damaging the floors. But with all this, the useful width of a sheet for a roof is less than that of sheets for walls and a fence.

Now let's find out what the useful width is. When we were just starting to understand this issue, this term caused me to panic, but it turned out that under these words the mounting width of the sheet is hidden. When the roof is covered, for example, when the sheet comes on the sheet, the useful width changes. She's getting smaller

When choosing desired type profile sheet, it is desirable to know its marking. It depends on the width of the sheet and the height of the wave of the sheet.
As an example, marking C10-1100-0.6, where

  • C - means corrugated board for the fence and walls
  • 10 - wave height in mm
  • 1100 - useful width of the profiled sheet in mm
  • 0.6 - thickness of galvanized corrugated board in mm

Advantages of a profile sheet

  • Long service life
  • Acceptable cost for the consumer
  • Ease of installation
  • Environmental resistance
  • Large selection of colors and different shapes.
  • Necessary tools and materials for creating a fence from corrugated board

Tools for creating a fence from corrugated board:

    1. Welding machine
    2. Screwdriver
    3. Shovel
    4. Trowel
    5. Buckets
    7. Seam opener

    Required material:

    1. profile pipe diameter 80x80 mm
    2. Profile pipe 20x10 mm
    3. Profiled sheet (profiled) 200x110 cm
    4. Roofing screws
    5. One and a half facing brick

Materials for the front of the fence and foundation:

    1. Cement
    2. Sand
    3. Rubble
    5. Peaks for poles between the gates 6 pcs.
    6. Paint (the metal frame is painted)
    7. Armature 10 mm
    8. Board for formwork 150 mm.

Let's get started building a fence

We fill the foundation under the front of the fence: for this, we dug a trench 30 cm wide and 1 m deep.

Further, the frame of the future foundation was being prepared from 10 mm reinforcement. After that, formwork was made from a 150 mm board. Pipes were installed in the foundation, which were subsequently lined with bricks and became pillars for future gates. Hinges were welded onto the pipes, on which the gates would be attached.

Our site is on a slope. Therefore, the fence was made "ladder". The figure below shows the slope of the fence.

Holes were dug into which a pipe 80x80 mm 3 m long was buried by 1 m (already cut ones were bought) and poured with concrete. Plastic plugs were placed on top of the pipes to prevent precipitation. Further, 2 transverse pipes with a diameter of 20x40 mm were welded to the concreted supports. After the iron structure was ready, it was painted with paint for metal resistant to environment. When the frame was ready, with the help of roofing metal screws, the corrugated board was screwed to the pipes.

It is impossible to lay the masonry evenly the first time, so if there is little experience in this matter, it is better to entrust this matter to a professional, as well as the control of the welding machine.

Alternatively, constructions are possible not with a brick base, but with a concrete, metal or combined frame.

The resulting fence fully meets all our requirements, thanks to the isolation of the site, we were able to easily drill a well to a depth of 117 m and install necessary equipment. And we were no longer afraid that something might go with the looters to the market. What kind of fence do you have on your property?

While Germany celebrates the anniversary of the fall Berlin Wall, Alexei Belyakov reflects on why people in Russia like to erect fences so much - both ordinary, real, and mental, metaphorical

I spent the last two summers at a dacha not far from Nakhabino, in an old settlement. The village is a village, nothing special. But next to it - what a charm: a fortified area on many hectares called "Prince's Lake" - they say, owned by "Severstal". From the old village, and from the rest of the world, the "princes" fenced themselves off with a mighty wall - five meters high, equipped with observation devices. Moreover, at a distance of about a meter from the wall there is also a lower metal fence. Armed men in camouflage are walking along the corridor between the fence and the wall. It seems that summer residents behind the wall of the "Lake" never sleep, they are waiting for the assault. Batu or Hitler is about to come. With battering rams, mortars, catapults, Tiger tanks, with slanting and greedy eyes.

What's outlandish? The same Rublyovka has long turned into a warehouse of amusing medieval fortresses, only adjusted for innovations in the field of protecting private property. They live in a siege. Well, there people have diamond fur coats, there is something to protect from the eyes of others. But in any holiday village, from Smolensk to Vladivostok, the main thing is a fence. No fence, no property. Any lines and numbers on the cadastral plan? Don't make me laugh!

Eight years ago, I bought a modest piece of land for a low price in a quiet corner of the Moscow region, in a dacha partnership - so, for the future, for children. He didn't build anything there, and he didn't even fence it. A neighbor who lives opposite stubbornly parked a car on my site. I had to tactfully remind him that he had his own territory for the car. After a couple of days, look — the car is back on my site. Okay, I think I'll mark ownership. He drove high pegs - with a step of about two meters. But this didn’t bother the neighbor either: the car successfully drove between the pegs. The chairman of the association, after listening to my lamentations, said: "Well, you, too, don't live in Russia! You need to put up a fence. Pour the pillars with concrete." That is, until you put up a fence, consider it not yours. Only concrete, only hardcore! I still haven’t put up a fence, the neighbor still considers my site his parking lot. And it's not the neighbor's fault, but me, a miserable loser. The title to the property must have a strong visual solution.

Our fence is generally a mystical thing. Before him and "judgment and truth, all be silent." Because it is designed to hide, conceal, confuse. It can stand for decades, stretch over great distances, and what is behind it is unknown. Maybe nothing, dust and fog, or maybe the city of Kitezh is being built - everything is possible behind the Russian fence. The main thing is that he is. This means that the space has already been organized, which means that the place has already been prayed for. Above the fence is only God.

We love our sweet fences, we choose them as a new wife, long and passionately: we have to live with them. We replace the rusted chain-link mesh with profiled sheets: no one will see us behind them. The world caught us, but did not catch. These are our modest medieval joys. We are all a little oprichniki.

And after death, we will not be left without a fence. Oh, these Russian fences on the churchyard, witnesses of eternity, guards of the void. Well, we need such a fence that it is not lower than that of neighboring graves, and that there is enough space for all the living when we are here for Easter with vodka and eggs. And we will fight for our cherished plot in the cemetery until our last breath. I have been to cemeteries different countries, for I realized long ago that it is easiest to find out the soul of the people in the churchyard. No nation in the world has such a riot of grave fences. More precisely, I have not seen them anywhere else, this is such a Russian "specialty". To die under a fence - by the way, is also a purely Russian proverb.

I remember a joke about a foreigner who, while in the USSR, exclaimed: "You have interesting language, the same word can mean so many things. For example, there are very important word"cathedral" is both a large temple and a fence..." Well, for him, "fence" and "cathedral" sounded the same. In fact, the naive foreigner was right. Our catholicity is in our fence.

IN FACT THE NAIVE FOREIGNER WAS RIGHT. OUR COLLABORITY IS IN OUR FACILITY.

The eternal exhaustion of Russia from the struggle with either greedy Europe or predatory Asia has developed in us a special psychology of alienation, alertness, reaching the point of paranoia. Reading the notes of any traveler - from Sigismund von Herberstein, an Austrian diplomat in the 16th century, to Lennart Dahlgren, the CEO of IKEA in the 21st century - Russians are not at all such hospitable souls, wide open, as we somehow seem to ourselves for the last millennium. That is, after drinking and eating, we are all Nozdrevs, but at first we are gloomy Sobakevichs, whose house Gogol surrounded with a very strong fence. At the same time, the author himself preferred to write "Dead Souls" in Rome. From afar, the homeland seems funnier and more terrible.

And here's the phenomenon: Russians, even from the same Rublyovka, when buying real estate in Tuscany or Miami, completely manage there without their own fences. And they live for themselves, smile, waving their hands to their neighbors. And here it is as if the very air is filled with the idea of a fence. The country is huge: steppes, mountains, taiga, but without a fence it is not dear to us. The fence - it decorates Russia better than any Khokhloma.

The universal idol Peter the Great, who flooded slow-witted Russia with active expats, threw one thoughtful phrase like "We will need Europe for a while, and then we will turn our backs on it." The tsar-reformer was not torn in the EU, he was not torn at all. He was practical, but distrustful and suspicious. Still would: political activity The future emperor began with the fact that at the age of seventeen he was forced to escape from Moscow from the enraged archers and take refuge behind the mighty fortifications of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. Now Peter the Great could safely hide even in the same "Prince's Lake", where he has a rich infrastructure, including a fitness club and a restaurant. But the main thing is the walls.

The Bolsheviks, whose triumph some celebrate exactly these days, brought the idea of "fencing" to the absolute. Lowering the iron curtain. And, I suspect, they created a completely comfortable environment, feng shui like this: we are here on our own, the rest - go through the forest! For those who were especially curious, there was the Vokrug Sveta magazine, the remaining 87 percent were more comfortable sticking to Ostap Bender’s paradox: “All this is fiction, there is no Rio de Janeiro, and there is no America, and there is no Europe, there is nothing. And in general, the last city is this is Shepetivka, where the waves break Atlantic Ocean". And the whole Russian, pardon the expression, chanson - these are thieves' songs, as if from behind barbed wire. The more barbed, the more dear. "Before me, like an icon, the entire forbidden zone, and on the tower is the same hated Chekist ..." It is strange, very strange that Ulyana Sergeenko, who has already made a collection with elegant fitted padded jackets, has not yet thought of lattice prints, "concrete" textured dresses, or gold barbed wire accessories.

Therefore, when economists and political scientists scare Russia with the specter of isolationism, they are sneered in response: "Yeah, so what?" Fence, wall, fence - that's what we need. The double-headed eagle looks best on the watchtower.

We’ll fence ourselves off, plant potatoes, turn on the Chanson radio, pray to God, tell a joke about our mother-in-law, ferment cabbage, turn into a fool, watch a TV series about Rasputin, smoke on the porch, looking thoughtfully at the clouds that float above our fence. On that stood, stands and will stand the Russian land. And who does not like it - there is a small gate.

Alexey Belyakov, Deputy editor-in-chief of Allure

It is not uncommon for a fence, after two to four years, to lean or fall altogether, while the wooden poles have rotted away. Why this happens, the owners often do not find an answer - after all, everything was done "according to the instructions" with deepening and winding the tree with roofing material ....

Why do fences fall, and often, when installed on hastily– completely unreliable? Let's take a closer look at how to make the fence support stable and durable.

    Why do fences lean

The fences tilt because ground movements occur or the support pillars are slightly immersed in the ground.

As you know, in any fence, two parts can be distinguished - the carrier, in this case these are pillars, and the fence. The enclosing part is selected by each owner to taste, there are no special rules in its manufacture. But the bearing part is more complicated and should be functional - keep the fence straight for a long time.

Let's look at the wind load first. It is the wind that is often the reason that the fence loosens and leans. The popular solid profiled fencing is an excellent sail.

Without going into details, let's say that for a fence with a height of only 1.6 meters, with a span length for each pillar of only 2.5 meters in middle lane Russia will have a wind load of about 225 kg applied to the middle of the column (height 0.8 meters) or a torque of about 180 kg m will act on the column.

These are significant forces, and the fence, as indicated, is "not too big." Therefore, the well-known recommendations to bury the posts 0.5 meters into the ground are the reason that this fence falls.

To withstand the wind with a solid fence, you need to bury the poles to a value close to half the height of the fence - i.e. in this case, not less than 0.7 meters.

But will this embedment depth always be reliable? It turns out that most soils do not.

Depth of embedding pillars in the ground

Not infrequently in central Russia, soils are very heaving. They consist of alternating layers of loams, sandy loams, flooded silty sands, with high standing groundwater.

These soils push out everything that is “badly” buried. Acting with tangential forces on a pole buried by 0.7 meters, they will push it out by 10 centimeters every year. As a result, in 2 - 3 years the fence will fall.

How to put a "non-falling" fence on heaving soils

We will have to go deeper - up to 1.2 meters, so that the friction forces on the non-freezing part can withstand the buoyant forces. If you make any thickening at the bottom of the column, then you can reduce the depth of the pit to 1.1 meters.

At metal poles you can weld a bar at the bottom, a piece of a corner. And at wooden poles, it is necessary to make a tie-in for the entire thickness of the nailed bar.

Reinforced concrete pillars must be installed in a cement mortar, i.e. throw a couple of shovels of cement-sand mortar to the bottom of the pit, then immerse the reinforcement from the column into the solution.

Dense clays and loams are usually not saturated with aquifers. Such soils are classified as moderately heaving. The depth of laying in the fence supports on such soils should be at least half the height of the fence.

And only in non-heaving soils - rocky, dry sands, the depth of laying is determined by the wind load, which for a solid fence is, as can be seen from the example, ½ of the height minus 10 - 15 cm.

Features of the installation of hollow reinforced concrete pillars

Hollow reinforced concrete pillars are very sensitive to flooding. If water collects inside the post at freezing level or above, then in winter it will simply destroy the post and the fence will fall.

Metal poles can be swollen or torn, but the structure is generally stable.

Concrete (reinforced concrete) hollow pillars during installation must be completely filled with a weak cement-sand mortar - 1:8. The entire cavity is tightly packed with concrete.

Installation of wooden poles in the ground

Basically, wooden poles are still used for fences, as they are the cheapest.
But it is important for them to prevent the wood from rotting when installed as a fence base. Otherwise, in a few years ... the fence will still fall.

Recommendations are known to wrap the immersed part in roofing felt or similar material. But in fact, moisture still penetrates into rolled materials, and for microorganisms in such a wrapper, an even more favorable environment. Roofing material does not at all save a wooden pole in the ground.

Also among the methods of preventing moisture access to wood are the following:

Charring (burning with fire until a burnt layer of wood appears) - unfortunately, the ash is saturated with water and is not a reliable protection against decay. The protective effect is not shown.

Resin coating or bituminous mastic, - the protection does not work for a long time, the coating quickly exfoliates from the wood .... and the fence falls.
Deep impregnation of wood with an antiseptic is an expensive pleasure if the wood is prepared in the factory. Manual impregnation does not give a lasting effect.

How to protect a wooden fence from rotting and destruction

First, you must not forget the basic rule for installing wooden poles - butt up. The wooden pole is installed so that the direction of the natural movement of water inside the pole is reversed. Otherwise, the wood will quickly fill with water and fail even without touching the ground.

Also, according to observations, a combination of the two methods described above gives a good protection of the tree from the ground - first charring, and then impregnating the charred part with bituminous resin diluted in diesel fuel.

The ash part, like a sponge, is impregnated with resinous compounds and forms a casing impervious to moisture around the main column. A mixture of bitumen and diesel fuel is used in hot, molten form. It is possible to dissolve bitumen with gasoline, but then it is unacceptable to heat the solution and the poles are processed cold.

In a similar way, not only the underground part is processed, but also a piece of wood that will be located at least 30 cm above the soil level.

Of course, the complexity and cost of such a method is increased. But the fence must stand for a long time, right?

Sufficient installation depth on heaving soils and good waterproofing of wooden poles will allow you to put an inexpensive fence on wooden poles, which will last for a long time.

By painting these supports, you can get a good aesthetic fence above the soil level. In addition, paint and top impregnation will protect the tree from the effects of precipitation, at least for a while.

Building a house in the country, landscaping the site, planting trees on it is half the battle. Build a fence around your property. For what? To be like people. So that thieves do not climb into you and other people's dogs do not run around the site. There my neighbor resisted until someone cleared his beds. And all why? There was no fence around the site. Therefore, the construction of the fence is the first thing. Some summer residents do not start construction until they put things in order on their border. And they do it right.

Are we any worse than others? Let's get down to business. Let's say we have a plot of 10 acres (relatively speaking, 50 m long and 20 m wide). The length of the fence in this case will be 140 m, height - from 1.5 to 2 m. There are many options for fencing today. What are they not made of? What kind of fence design do you prefer? Build it yourself or invite experts? Let's figure out which is faster, more profitable. And most importantly - to be reliable. If you install a fence, then for many years, so that our descendants do not know our problems.

And we are behind the grid!

Apparently, the most popular type of fencing today is from the chain-link mesh. Such a lattice fence is considered to be very inexpensive and durable (its service life exceeds 30 years). Mesh "Rabitz" is produced in rolls 1.5 - 2 m wide and 10 m long. If desired, you can choose a mesh with a large or small mesh, steel, galvanized or polymer-coated. Attach it to metal pipes or concrete poles.

The purchase of non-galvanized (galvanized) mesh, pipes and wire for tension will cost 1.5 - 2 million rubles. Compared to other types of fences, this is not so expensive.

Keep the following in mind when installing the fence. If the distance between the supports does not exceed 2.5 - 3 m, it is not necessary to tie the mesh to the wire. For a spacing of more than 3 m, wire is necessary, as the mesh will sag and sag: impractical and ugly. The pillars are not just dug into the ground, but are installed in pits that are filled with concrete. It is advisable to raise the net 10 - 15 cm above the ground so that the grass under the hedge can be mowed and its bottom rusted less. Wire mesh made of non-galvanized steel is preferably painted with oil paint. Some summer residents act more practically - they lower the net to the very ground so that hares do not climb into the garden.

    Board to board...

Building a wooden fence is another acceptable and not very expensive way of fencing. suburban area. What are its advantages? Reasonable price of materials and ease of installation. What about the cons? There are many of them, the main one is fragility! A wooden fence will begin to collapse in 10 - 12 years after construction, and supports - even earlier. Therefore, it is very important to treat them with an antiseptic composition. The earthen part of the pillars must be charred on a fire, smeared with hot tar or pasted over with two layers of roofing material.

Wood for the fence must be strong, dense, without rot and cracks. The most suitable species are pine, spruce and larch. First, poles treated with an antiseptic are dug in to a depth of at least 60 - 70 cm, then transverse bars are installed, and then a picket fence or boards are attached. And they paint: there is no limit to fantasy ... As a result, the construction of a fence 140 m long will cost about 1.2 - 1.5 million rubles. A simple wooden fence will last much longer if the poles are not made of wood, but of metal, concrete or brick. True, such a fence will cost even more. But more reliable. So decide, choose. Maybe...

    Concrete miracle

The last peep of fence construction is finished sections made of decorative concrete. The advantages of such a fence are undeniable: durability, practicality, aesthetics, convenience, speed of installation. Concrete panels can be both smooth and square, dotted, circled, etc. Moreover, they can be stylized as wood, brick, stone, cobblestone, etc., as well as painted in any color (the shape of the fence can be made according to your sketch). When installing such a fence, there is no need to lay a foundation: decorative panels are installed directly into the grooves of the pillars (the weight of each pillar is about 90 kg, the panels are 60 kg).

The length of each panel is standard - 2.07 m, and the height can vary from 1 to 2.3 m. To fence a 140 m plot, we need about 67 sections, i.e. the purchase of blocks will cost about 1.5 thousand USD. Such a decorative concrete fence will be assembled for you in just 3-4 days (if the team of workers is not drunk). It should turn out very nice. But keep in mind that the installation of one section costs about 5 - 6 USD, and the entire fence of 67 sections will cost 325 - 400 "conditional". Add here loading, unloading. And if you have at least 2.5 thousand "greens", then get down to business.

Not a house, but a fortress

The brick fence looks pretty impressive. But he's too expensive. Not every summer resident can afford such capital walls, and why, if you have a wooden house on your site? Brick fences are usually erected around cottages. In addition to the enclosing function, they protect against noise, dust and wind. Unlike previous types of fences, a massive brick structure requires the construction of a foundation. Builders dig a trench, make a formwork, pour concrete: the fence will stand like a fortress, it will not shake. Bricks are laid as your heart desires (horizontally or vertically, close or at intervals). Some lightness of this design is given by arches and niches for flowerpots.

Now let's calculate the costs. Wow - at least 16 thousand "conditional" (the total cost depends on the quality of the bricks, the remoteness of your dacha from the city and the ambitions of the fence builders).

The money has been paid, but something is bothering you. What? It turns out that a solid brick wall blocks the way for the movement of air to the site. Plants will immediately feel it, and you will find yourself, as it were, in a “stone bag”. There is something to think about.

    Wattle or "thorn"?

Unsuitable brick walls? How to be? What fence will we fence now? Don't despair: there are a few more options. Say, how about enclosing the area with barbed wire? To some, this idea will seem absurd. Nevertheless, this is the easiest and at the same time the cheapest option to protect the cottage from uninvited visitors. And for aesthetics, plant around the perimeter of the site ornamental plants. You can also those that bloom beautifully and bear fruit profusely. Rosehip, hawthorn, for example. And your metal thorn will be completely invisible.

But that's not all! You can make a combined fence of concrete pillars with "wooden filling". Do not like it - build a metal structure on brick supports. As you can see, there are options. The fence can also be made from metal sections, which, with proper construction and operation, “live” for more than 25 years. Do not forget about the decorative hedges made of wood, which resemble wattle.

    Finishing touch

When installing a fence, think about a gate and gate. With wooden fences, it is best to use a gate and gate made of the same material. For a fence made of brick or concrete, a metal entrance group is suitable: a gate and a gate. At the same time, keep in mind that the gate should open to the street (in winter it will be easier to free it from snow).
