The best resorts of Morocco on the Mediterranean Sea are Tangier, Saidia. Photos, reviews about the rest

The coast of Morocco is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The coastline of the sea is much smaller than that which washes the ocean. And to be precise, only 450 kilometers of the coast is the Mediterranean Sea. Such a small length does not frighten tourists, and they choose the resorts of Morocco on the Mediterranean Sea to spend their holidays here. Almost 80% of all tourists in Morocco have a rest on the Mediterranean coast, and there are explanations for this. First, the climate is milder here. At any time, the berries are better here than in other parts of the country. Secondly, seaside resorts are closer to Europe, and hotels are better there. And thirdly, the sea is warmer than the ocean, and there are no waves on it. Whereas the Atlantic Ocean is constantly seething and the waves are often more than a meter in height. We have collected information about best resorts worth visiting. See prices, photos and videos, find out reviews from tourists and relax properly.

Since the Mediterranean coast in Morocco is not large, there are not so many resorts on it. And these are not small towns, but big cities, with hundreds of thousands of inhabitants, developed infrastructure, excellent roads and shopping areas.
One of these resorts is Tangier, which is also the country's largest port.

The beach season here begins in May. At the end of spring, sunny weather sets in here, the air temperature during the day reaches +24 degrees. The nights are cool and the sea is not warm, but there are many tourists on the beach, and they are all waiting for the sea to become warmer. And it will become, literally in a few weeks. Already in June, the daily temperature is above +30, and the sea warms up to +20 degrees. daylight hours are more than 13.5 hours, and there is almost no rain.
July and August are really hot. These two months are the most visited in the resort. The temperature breaks records rising to +35, the sea is already warm +23, and there is no rain at all. Just like there are no clouds in the sky, especially in July, when the sky is clear for 28 days a month.
The beach season will last in September and October. Since the temperature will not drop below +25 degrees, and the sea will not cool below +23. True, daylight hours will decrease, and it will rain from time to time.

As already mentioned, this is not only a resort, but also a port. Thousands of tankers, ships and boats sail here every day. They bring food, clothes, goods and tourists. there are beautiful hotels in the city, which are located on the seashore. and in the city center. If you plan to visit the beach frequently. Then you'd better get a hotel room on the beach. If you are not in the city for the beach and the sea, then it is cheaper to find a hotel in the city center.

The city has attractions, as well as throughout the country. there are also palaces. Mosques, but still Tangier is a city that looks more like a European one, where everything is twisted on the economy and life is in a hurry. The city of Tangier is located at the junction of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. By visiting this place, you will be able to see with your own eyes how the waters meet and you will remember this spectacle forever.

The second resort of Morocco on the Mediterranean Sea is Saidia. It is much more comfortable than the port city. There is no such noise, there is no rush and the city is completely made for tourists. Even the locals here relax and enjoy life.

The resort's beach is amazing, its length is more than 14 kilometers! And this is one clean sand that crunches underfoot. Hotels in Saidia work on an all-inclusive system, so there are many Russian tourists who really like this system. To attract tourists in early spring and late autumn, the hotels have heated pools. They are filled with sea water and most tourists prefer to relax by the pools.
The resort also has its famous places and attractions. For example, the Muluya Reserve, where more than a hundred species of various birds gather, nest and live. There is no other place like it anywhere in the world!

If you are not afraid of heights and love mountains, then visit the Benny Snassen Massif and climb to a height of 1535 meters above sea level. from such a height you will discover beauties from which you will go crazy in the good sense of the word.
And the Camel Grotto will appeal to everyone who loves caves. This place is special and a little scary. But believe me, everything is beautiful here, and you can enjoy every minute in the grotto.

There are other resorts in Morocco on the Mediterranean Sea. But they are not so popular, and mostly locals rest in them. So if you are going here, then choose between the big and noisy Tangier or between the cozy and beautiful Saidim. The choice is yours.

The resorts of Morocco, located on the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts of North Africa, thanks to the peculiarities of the climate and the unique combination of natural conditions, allow you to organize a comfortable beach holiday almost all year round.

The Kingdom of Morocco has a special status among African countries, as it is considered one of the most "Europeanized" states on the continent. This is due to the location near Spain (only 15 km of the Strait of Gibraltar separates the Moroccan coast from the Iberian Peninsula) and features historical development.

Being at the crossroads of busy trade routes from Europe to Africa, Morocco for a long period of history (from the 9th to the 15th centuries) was one of the most prosperous states on the continent. In later times, the territory of the kingdom partially or completely fell under the influence of Spain and France.

The rich architectural and cultural heritage of various eras is carefully preserved by the modern inhabitants of the country. The French and Spanish influence was also preserved in the linguistic traditions of the local population (one of the languages of business communication is French) and in geographical names (Casablanca - "white building" in Spanish - the name of the famous Moroccan resort).

Having received full independence in 1975, the state began to develop rapidly, especially in the tourist direction. After all, Morocco has all the necessary conditions for organizing a varied holiday: extensive beaches with “velvety” sand, cultural and natural attractions, developed infrastructure and famous local culinary traditions.

For travelers from Russia, a visa is needed only if they stay in the territory of the state for more than 90 days.

Climate

The resorts of Morocco, where beach holidays are popular with tourists from all over the world, are located in two large regions: on the Atlantic coast (from Tarfay to Tangier) and on the Mediterranean Sea (from Ceuta to Nador).

The climate on the Mediterranean coast is predominantly subtropical, maritime (with mild warm winters and hot summers). The average temperature of the summer months is +24-28 °C. In winter, the average temperature is 10 -12 °C. In summer, the heat can reach up to + 30-32 ° C in daytime. Precipitation in the region falls in winter time(1000 mm per year).

The high season in the Mediterranean is from April to October. Another peak of tourist visits is the Christmas holidays (second half of December). The water in the Mediterranean Sea warms up to 21 ° C in June and stays between 23-24 ° C until September (this time is called the velvet season).

The Atlantic coast of Morocco has a cooler climate, close to temperate. In this resort region, the beach season begins in the second half of May and ends in September. The average air temperature is +28-+30 °C. The water temperature in the ocean warms up from 18°C at the beginning of the season to +21°C. By the end of the season, the water cools down to + 16°C.

Features of nature

The uniqueness of Morocco's nature lies in its diversity. It is rare to find landscapes from desert to mountainous with evergreen forests on the territory of one state. Currently, the number of forest areas is declining due to human activities, but measures are being taken to protect nature and new ones are being created. National parks(including Souss Masa near the coast).

One of the natural attractions is the Atlas Mountains, which include the High Atlas, Reef, Middle Atlas, Anti-Atlas massifs. In the High Atlas, the peaks are covered with snow all year round, and the Middle Atlas is called Moroccan Switzerland for its "alpine" landscapes with meadows, lakes and waterfalls and ski resorts.

Trekking and cave visits are organized in the mountains(for example, Feruato, Vin-Timduin). The most famous Caves of Hercules are not located in the Atlas, but not far from the ocean coast - in Tangier.

The Sahara desert occupies a small part in the south of the country, but the sands are constantly advancing and the area occupied by the dunes is increasing. Trips are organized to the desert for tourists in the winter and spring months, when there is no sweltering heat.

Between the Mediterranean coast and the mountains are valleys where the famous Moroccan citrus fruits, olives and argan trees are grown, the oil of which is popular in cosmetology.

Animal world This North African country is not very diverse, but such species of large predators as the cheetah, leopard, caracal, hyena are still preserved. In the desert areas and savannah, you can see sand and common foxes, phoenixes, jackals, dune cats and servals.

Of the ungulates, only 2 species of antelopes have survived, gazelles and deer in forest areas.

There are more than a dozen zoos in Morocco, among which the park in Rabat (the capital of the kingdom) stands out for its size and number of animals. There are interesting collections of birds and animals in the zoos of Agdir (Valley of Birds) and Casablanca (Ain Sebaa).

National dishes

The resorts of Morocco, where beach holidays are successfully combined with excursions to historical sights, are also famous for their restaurants of national cuisine.

List of national dishes:

Moroccan cuisine is quite diverse and a festive dinner can include up to 20 dishes. In traditional restaurants, it is customary to eat while sitting at a low table on cushions, and instead of cutlery, use a small piece of flatbread. There are also many international cuisine establishments in the resort area, dominated by Italian, Spanish and French restaurants.

Population

The population of the Kingdom of Morocco is more than 36 million people. Most Moroccans live on the west coast. According to the ethnic composition, more than half of the country's inhabitants are Arabs, and the Berber peoples (4 large communities) make up about 49% of the population. The French and Spaniards also live mainly on the Mediterranean coast.

The main languages of communication are Arabic (local dialect) and Berber, French is often used in business. In resort areas, English is used mainly by people associated with trade and in the service sector.

The attitude of the local population towards travelers is friendly - it is customary to treat the guest the best dishes and be treated with respect. However, local Muslim customs do not correspond to the appearance in public places in revealing outfits or the consumption of alcoholic beverages (except for areas in hotels).

It is considered impolite to leave the question of the interlocutor unanswered (even if from the point of view of the traveler the information is perceived as personal).

In order not to cause a negative reaction of the local population, leaving the hotel territory, you should avoid frankly beach outfits (especially for women) and drinking alcohol.

Currency

The national currency of Morocco is the dirham (MAD), which floats against world currencies. On average, it is 0.1 - 0.08 $ per 1 MAD. It is more profitable to carry US dollars to Morocco, since they can be most easily exchanged for local currency (the exchange rate is the same at airports and hotels, as it is set by the state bank). It will be almost impossible to exchange rubles for dirhams.

It is forbidden to pay with any other currency other than MAD on the territory of the kingdom, but payment by credit cards is possible (except for small shops and shops in the markets). The export of national currency abroad is prohibited, so you need to get a certificate at the exchange office so that you can exchange dirhams back for dollars or euros when you leave.

In Morocco, a large number of holidays are celebrated every year, almost all of them are religious (Islamic) or folklore in nature. The most important of them are Ramadan, Eid al-Sagira, the Folk Arts Festival in Marrakesh, the Rose Festival in el-Kela M "Guna, the Cherry Festival in Sefrou, the Camel Festival in Gulimin and the Equestrian Festival in Tisza.

Cuisine of Morocco

The formation of Moroccan cuisine was influenced by the culinary traditions of the Mediterranean, Arabs, Jews, Persians, West Africans and Berbers. One can only imagine what the result was a kitchen.

Traditional Moroccan dishes - "Tagines" (a fragrant stew of meat, vegetables or fish), "Harira" (spicy tomato soup), "Pastilla" (meat pie made from puff pastry with cinnamon and sugar), "Couscous" (dishes with semolina and with meat and vegetables), "Tajine" (a fragrant stew with onions, olives, almonds, tomatoes, herbs or dried fruits), "Mechoui" (baked stuffed beef or lamb).

Traditional non-alcoholic drinks are "mint tea" (it is often called "Berber whiskey"), coffee.

It should be remembered that Morocco is a Muslim country, however, for tourists, the laws in this regard are liberal. Local beer and wine are sold at a very affordable price.

Sights of Morocco

In relatively small Morocco, a huge number of various attractions have been preserved. In every Moroccan city, tourists have something to see. So, in Rabat, for example, this is the Hassan Tower, which began to be built back in the 12th century.

In Casablanca and its environs, the main attractions are the markets, the Great Mosque of Hassan II, the Shleh Mosque, the residence of the Pasha Mahacma du Pasha, the Sacré Coeur Cathedral, the ruins of the city of Anfa.

In Marrakech, tourists will definitely be interested in local markets, the Koutoubia Mosque, the mausoleum of Yusuf bin Tashfin, the Mosque of the Golden Apples, the ruins of the El Badi Palace, the Muasin Fountain, the Dar El Makhzen Palace, the Muasin Mosque, the mausoleum of Sidi al-Suheili ...

In Fez, the religious capital of Morocco, we recommend paying attention to the summer palace of the king, the Bab Dekaken gate, the Moulay Idris mosque, the Bou Inanya madrasah, the Ghazlean mosque, the Attarin madrasah, the Karaouin mosque, the Tsetaunin caravanserai, the Dar Batha palace and on Andalusian mosque.

Cities and resorts

The largest cities are Casablanca, Rabat, Fez, Marrakesh, Tangier, Menes and Agadir.

The country is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Near the cities, the beaches have a well-developed recreation infrastructure. However, there are hundreds of secluded beaches where nature has remained completely untouched. The beaches of the Atlantic coast will, of course, be of interest to lovers of water sports, especially surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

On the Mediterranean coast, the beaches are more secluded, the water is warm and calm. In recent years, new seaside resorts have begun to appear there, for example, Tamuda Bay.

The most famous Moroccan beach resorts are Agadir, Casablanca and Essaouira. A big plus of these resorts is that there are a lot of ancient sights (mosques, fortresses, palaces, etc.).

Souvenirs/Shopping

Moroccan markets often result in tourists heading home with an extra suitcase filled with souvenirs. We bring to your attention a list of the 10 best souvenirs that you can buy in this country:

  1. Carpets. In Morocco, there are two types of carpets - made in the city and Berber. Urban carpets are usually made near Rabat, while Berber carpets are made in rural areas by the Berbers. Usually, Berber carpets are thinner than those made in the city. We recommend buying Berber carpets in women's cooperatives.
  2. Moroccan tea service. Tea drinking is a national Moroccan treasure. This is a real ceremony and tradition. You can buy silver plated teapots and a few cups in any big city.
  3. Women's belly dance costume.
  4. Wood products (caskets, vases, chess).
  5. Musical instruments (for example, Moroccan oud and several types of drums).
  6. Henna paint (we recommend buying in Suka).
  7. Leather goods - Moroccan slippers, wallets, etc. (we recommend buying in Fez).
  8. Ceramics (the most famous blue and white ceramics are made in Fes).
  9. Scarves and shawls.
  10. Silver jewelry (they are best bought in the south of the country and in the city of Tiznit located there).
