Installation of window, window and door hinges - Knowledge Hypermarket. Strengthening door hinges How to strengthen hinges technology 8

It is precisely because of the weakened hinges that windows or doors begin to creak over time, and then close very badly.
However, this small problem can be solved very easily, and besides, very quickly.

What tools, accessories, materials do we need in order to strengthen the door and window hinges?

  • Firstly. Drill driver
  • Secondly. Pins for chopsticks
  • Thirdly. A hammer
  • Fourth. Chisel
  • Fifth. Adhesive for wood products

How can door and window hinges be strengthened? We bring to your attention a simple and understandable step-by-step guide.

Step one. Need to take off doors(or window) with loops and unscrew the old hinges.

Step two. close-up with a wood drill, you need to drill out the places of the mounting holes, thus increasing them in diameter, and if it is possible to allow it, then deepening it.

Step Three. It is necessary to prepare chopsticks from dowel pieces corresponding to the drilled holes width. Next, you need to carefully and evenly distribute the glue for wooden products on one of the ends of each of these chopsticks, and only after that you need to drive the chopsticks into the drilled holes.

Step four. By the same principle, you need to prepare all the other chopiki. Then you need to leave them for a while so that the glue dries well enough.

Step five. All parts of the chopsticks protruding from the plugs must be carefully cut using a chisel, leveling the surface of the chopik with the surface of the door or frame (or window frame).

Step six. Now you need to re-drill new neat holes in the fixed plugs for the same fasteners, and then re-hang the door or window in the old place. Now they will be securely fastened, and not dangle on loose hinges, as before.

Step seven. Our work is done with integrity! We really were able to reinforce door and window hinges! The door or window now sits in its original place like new. And it would not hurt to embellish their appearance. This can be done with the help of new beautiful accessories. But that, as they say, is a completely different story ...

Door hinges are the main elements door leaf. It is from the quality and securely fixed hinges that the stability of the door largely depends, as well as how it can fulfill its purpose.

But sometimes, over time, from many opening-closing cycles, the door hinges can loosen a little. The consequence of this may be a distortion of the door and the occurrence of difficulties when opening them. It should be noted that in order to solve such a problem, you can carry out such a process as strengthening door hinges, which, by the way, is very easy to perform even on your own.

Materials and tools

For a process such as strengthening door hinges you will need materials such as wooden wedges, matches or small pegs, as well as wood glue. Of the tools, you need to stock up on a screwdriver, a hammer and a drill with a small-diameter wood drill.

The process of reinforcing door hinges

The process of strengthening the loops itself consists of several main stages, the sequence of which plays a rather large role.

1. First you need to remove the door leaf from the hinges. It is best to do this together, since almost every door weighs quite a lot.

2. Using a hammer, you need to knock out the rod of the lower, and after the upper loop.

3. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the screws that hold both hinges. This should be done very carefully, trying not to damage the fasteners, as it will also be needed when attaching the hinges.

4. In the event that loosening of the screws is observed, then it is necessary to hammer pre-prepared wooden wedges or matches into those holes that remain after unscrewing the fasteners. It should be noted that preliminary data wooden crafts must be carefully lubricated with wood glue.

5. The rest of the matches or pegs that have not entered the holes from the screws must be cut off with a well-ground cutter. This must be done very carefully so as not to cut yourself.

6. Before screwing in a new screw, it is necessary to drill a pilot hole with a small-diameter drill, and directly grease the screw with wood glue. Thus, it will be possible to increase the accuracy of the installation of the fastener, and hence the strength of the fastening.

7. The final step will be the installation of hinges and the subsequent installation of the door leaf in its rightful place. Also, it is necessary to check the door for operability.

Having completed all such work, you can eliminate various kinds of squeaks, as well as sagging of the door leaf.

It should be noted that in some cases, the cause of creaking, as well as the skew of the door, may not be the weakening of the hinges at all, but an error during their installation. So, for example, by sinking such elements into doorway, you may accidentally remove more material than necessary. You can correct this situation and eliminate all problems by simply making special linings on your own.

Materials and tools

To carry out the process of manufacturing the substrate for the hinges, you will need cardboard, which will be used as the main material, as well as scissors and a screwdriver.

Substrate manufacturing process

1. First you need to remove the door and unscrew the hinges (this process can be carried out in parallel with strengthening the hinges).

2. Next, it is worth cutting out a piece of cardboard prepared in advance, which will be the same size as the cutout for the loop. This same cardboard element must be placed in the cutout and the loops re-fastened. It should be noted that wood glue can also be used as an additional fastener.

3. The next step will be the installation of the door leaf and checking its performance. In the event that the door is still “hanging out” or there are other consequences of loosening the hinges, then more cardboard can be added to the substrate.

It should be noted that hinges, as mentioned above, are a very important element of any door leaf. Therefore, it is very important to prevent the weakening of such elements in time and carry out all necessary work to remedy such defects. In the event that none of the above methods failed to troubleshoot the hinges, then you need to re-attach them to the door leaf. Of course, it is imperative to choose a new installation location at the end of the door leaf, in which the wood has not yet had time to crack.

Having carried out all the necessary procedures for repairing the hinges of the door leaf in time, you can be sure that such a door will last for more than a dozen years. It is very important, when carrying out any of the above methods of repairing loops, to strictly adhere to the sequence of actions, as well as the accuracy and accuracy of execution.

>>Technology:Installation of window, window and door hinges

For hanging vents, transoms, window sashes and doors, metal hinges are used. The loop consists of two flat parts - cards connected by a hinge (Fig. 79).

Before installing the loop, check its quality. The loops should not have a skew of the cards: for a loop folded in half, the edges of the cards should match. Both halves of the hinge should turn easily, without effort, around the hinge.

For window and window hinges with dimensions of 50 x 18, 60x20 and 75x30 mm, the distance from the longitudinal edge of the card to the side edge of the strapping beam should be at least 6 mm, and for door hinges - 11 mm (Fig. 80).

The installation of hinges begins with cutting them to the wings. To do this, the loop is applied to the sash at a distance from its upper or lower edge, equal to the length loops. At the same time, it should retreat from the end of the spike by at least 10 mm (Fig. 80, b). It is not allowed that the loop is placed on knots, cracks and other wood defects.
Having specified the location of the loops, they are marked (outlined) along the contour, a groove is cut out to the thickness of the card and the centers of the holes for the mounting screws are marked with an awl. Loops are screwed parallel to the edge of the bar according to the rules for connecting parts on screws. After that, they begin to fit the sash of the window to the place of its fastening.
The sash is applied to the box and the places for fixing the second loop card are marked. Choose the wood in the sash for the thickness of the card and mark the location of the screws. Screw each loop with one screw and check the correct fit. Eliminate distortions, if any, and screw in the remaining screws.

Fortochny and window hinges are fixed equally to both the left and right sash. Door hinges are right and left. This should be taken into account when fixing them. Loops can be overhead (PN) and mortise (PV) (Fig. 79, b, c,). The letter "P" is embossed on the right hinges, and "L" on the left.
To hang doors that open on themselves to the right, use the right hinges (Fig. 81, b). For right hinges, when viewed from the side of the chamfers of the holes, the hinge pin is on the right. Doors that open to the left are hung on the left hinges, which have a rod on the left when viewed from the side of the chamfers of the holes (Fig. 81, a).

Hello dear readers of the site. In this article, you will learn in the doors of a closet or bedside table. This is a disease of any furniture made from chipboard.

I have been using this method for a long time and it has never let me down.

1 . We take two drills with different diameters: one is 5-6mm, and the second is 9-10mm, and we drill holes into which furniture screws were screwed to a depth of 10mm. We drill first with a thin drill, and then with a thick one. Do it carefully so as not to make a through hole.

2 . We adjust the wooden stick to the diameter of the holes and cut off two chopiks 9-10 mm high.

3 . We glue the holes and chopiki well with glue. Then we hammer in the chopiki and leave it until the next day so that the glue dries.

4 . We put the loop in its place and make marks where the screws will go. With a drill with a diameter of 4mm, we drill holes to a depth of 10mm, and then drive the self-tapping screws so that they can then be easily screwed into place.
Take a drill exactly 4mm, since the diameter of the self-tapping screw is 6.5 mm, and if you make the hole wider, then everything will have to be done again.

5 . Put the loop in place and screw on. As you can see, everything is simple.

If your furniture is still Soviet-made, then it will be enough to drill holes with a slightly larger diameter, into which the screws were screwed, pour a little PVA glue, drive in wooden chopsticks and leave for a day for the glue to dry. Then, in the chopstick, also drill a hole with a thin 2.5 mm drill, and screw the loop into place.

There is one more option. PVA glue is poured into the holes, 3-4 matches are inserted and the loop is immediately screwed into place. But it's not very good way, because after a while the loop starts to hang out again. Although as an option, who does not have time, will also go.

Now you know, how to fix a loose furniture hinge.
Good luck!

IV. Presentation of the program material.

Doors in modern houses are made of strapping bars or boards. Door blocks, or door frames with doors, are installed and fixed in wall openings. If to wooden walls door frames are easily nailed, then in brick and concrete walls you have to make holes for wooden plugs and nail the door frames to them with nails or pins.

When repairing door frames, existing holes are usually used, but if they are broken or repair of attachment points is not possible, then new ones are drilled. The corks are driven into the holes in the wall, drilled to a depth of 40-50 mm, 2-3 on each side of the box. Holes for nails are pre-drilled in the box. Their diameter should be 1-2 mm smaller than the diameter of the nail. Then through these holes mark the places of punching.

If the box needs to be strengthened, but it is impossible to remove it, then 2-3 holes Æ8-10 mm are drilled in each side of it. Electric drill with long drillÆ8-10 mm with carbide cutting blades or a diamond-coated drill, holes 30-40 mm deep are drilled through the holes in the box in the wall. (These holes can be hollowed out with a jumper.) Metal pins Æ8-10 mm and a length of 2-5 mm less than the total thickness of the box wall and the depth of the hole in the wall are hammered into these holes.

If a large gap forms between the door frame and the wall, then it is covered with cement mortar or filled wooden lath the desired thickness, followed by puttying.

Doors in boxes are installed with gaps of 1.5-2 mm, taking into account their reduction during subsequent painting. Inside the room, the gap between the door and the floor should be within 10-20 mm.

Defective places in the door bars are cut out and filled with inserts, as in the case of window repair.

Bars of the frame and door trim can also be built up with inserts of various shapes - planks or tie-ins - with gluing and fastening with screws. Loose corner joints of the door trim bars, as well as windows, can be fastened with a square or plywood spikes inserted into the sawn lugs.

Inserts, squares, hinges, mortise and overhead locks, handles and other fittings are usually fastened with screws. Keep in mind that screws and nails do not hold well in wood if they are screwed or driven into ends or broken holes. Therefore, when repairing, longer screws are used or their fastening in dowels.

Very often in doors, windows and vents the hinges are broken or loosened. There are loops different sizes and designs. They consist of two halves (cards) with holes for screws, pivotally connected to each other by a rod. The holes are countersunk for countersunk screw heads.

Doors and windows are usually installed on two hinges. Window vents and transoms of windows are mounted on two one-piece hinges. An integral connection from collapsible loops can be obtained if the rods of two loops are directed in different directions.

The installation of hinges is sometimes done with their insertion into the wood, i.e., cutting the wood under each half so that the surface of the hinge is flush (on the same level) with the surface of the door and frame.

When repairing, in order not to embed the hinges, they use the available places for their fastening, but at the same time, longer screws are used. Screws are screwed in, smeared with glue, or dowels are used.

Sometimes, when repairing bars under the hinges, pieces of wood smeared with glue in the form of a dovetail are inserted into them. In the same way, as well as with cutting the spikes, inserts are glued in the places where the locks are installed.

If the door does not open well, then first inspect the hinges and their fastening with screws.

With a low drawdown of the door, washers or wire rings are put on the hinge rod. To do this, with the help of wedges driven in from below, lift the door all the way into the upper bar of the box. The hook is threaded between the rod and the loop card, the short end is pressed against the rod with pliers, and the long one is twisted until a ring is formed and cut off. The same ring is made on the rod of another loop. The rings are lubricated with technical petroleum jelly. They make hooks for rings from brass or copper wire Æ3-5 mm.

Usually the door is hung on hinges so that when it is open, it can be lifted and removed from the hinges. In this case, one half of the collapsible hinge remains on the box, and the other on the door.

In order to remove the door, it is opened by 90 0. Detachable loops are attached to the strapping bar with the rods up. They remove the door together, lifting it manually or knocking out wedges from below on both sides, holding and observing safety measures.
