Baguette for stretch ceilings: the right choice. How to properly glue baguettes on the ceiling Stretch ceiling: do-it-yourself baguette installation

First of all, let's decide what kind of tool we need to mount the baguette.

  • perforator
  • screwdriver
  • a hammer
  • hacksaw
  • paint cord
  • ladder
  • self-tapping screws and dowels, a drill with a diameter of 6 mm and a drill with a diameter of 6 mm

Let's prepare the room. To do this, we need to free up all the space around the perimeter of the room at a distance of 1 meter from the walls. No plants or pets should be left in the room. All furniture that could not be removed must be covered with a special covering material. Also, in order to make it more convenient to fasten the baguette, we need to prepare it: drill holes for the dowels. The distance between the holes should not exceed 15 cm, and the indentation at the ends of the whip from the edge should not be more than 2 cm. long distance it is not recommended to do this, as the profile will begin to pull and bend in the areas between the fasteners. A plastic baguette is drilled into a special stiffener, if you look from the end, it looks like a cube. And aluminum - in a special shelf. The photo shows how to prepare the profile for installation.

When preparing a room, it is worth considering one more thing. important point: where the electrical cable runs in the walls. This is especially true for the brick houses of Khrushchev's construction. It is necessary to navigate by the boxes, sockets, and switches located on the wall. In most cases, the wire runs at the level junction boxes and descends vertically over each outlet or switch. The location of the wires should be taken into account even at the stage of measuring the web.

markup

To mark the mounting plane of the baguette, a special device is used - a laser level. The normal height for mounting is considered to be a distance from the ceiling of at least 5 cm. With this mark, you will avoid getting into the technical seams in the wall. Firmly fix the laser level and put marks on each corner of the room. You should choose a place to set the level from which all nooks and crannies are shot through. If the room has an intricate shape and it is not possible to highlight all the corners from one place, then after putting down all the available marks, the level can be moved further, focusing on the existing drawings.

If you don't have a laser level, don't worry. You can use the hydro level. This marking will take more time, but the result will be quite accurate. Fill with room temperature water, making sure no air enters the hose. Align two flasks to test - the water border should be in the same plane in both flasks. Important: Do not use hot or cold water, it should be as close as possible to the room temperature. Also, do not allow the hose to be bent, this is fraught with large errors in the readings. The markup technology is as follows. One installer stands in the first corner, the other installer in the second. Fix both flasks in the corners with one hand, and with the other hand mark the border of the water in the flask. After that, the first installer moves to the next unmarked corner, while the second one remains in place. Next, the first installer roughly substitutes the flask to the corner, and the second, lowering or raising his side, achieves the coincidence of the water boundary with his mark. When the vibrations stop, the first puts his mark. The procedure is repeated sequentially with all corners. Next, we pick up a tape measure and measure all the distances from the marks to the ceiling. We subtract 5 cm from the smallest - this will be the total height. Then we mark from each mark, measure this value up and put the final markup.

Now, from one mark to another, we need to draw straight lines - this will be the plane of our stretch ceiling. To do this, we use a paint cord. We hold one end of the thread on one mark, the other end on the other. With a pinch we pull it back and release it, from the click on the wall there will be a straight line. And so in a circle.

Fastening

The installation of a baguette should start from the most inconvenient or hard-to-reach corner. It is not allowed to join the profile in the corners, even if it is cut down at 45 o. When stretching the web at the corner, the greatest load occurs, and the film will simply tear at the junction. Therefore, the baguette at the inner corners is sawn as follows: only the back wall is filed, and the front wall remains intact, after which the saw profile is bent in place.

Having fixed the first baguette whip, we move on to the second. It is mounted end-to-end with the first, and it is important to fit the joint horizontally as best as possible, you should not get any steps. Having reached the next inner corner, we need to measure the distance. This can be done in two ways: using a tape measure or using a whole baguette whip. The second option is more convenient and much faster. Turn the profile with the back wall outward, so that the groove for the harpoon is located at the bottom. Rest one end in a corner, and direct the other along the level line with an overlap onto a fixed baguette. Put a mark at a distance of 1 cm from the future joint, you need to move towards the corner. On this mark and drink down back wall. The outer (or outer) corner is also not difficult to prepare. Rest the end of the profile against the end of the already fixed baguette and draw a line along the back wall right along the corner. This will be the first drink. Further along the mounting path, put another mark at a distance of 2 cm from the first. This will be the second cut. Saw through the back wall along both marks. Now we need to cut the rest between the cuts. For a PVC profile, this is done with an ordinary construction knife; for aluminum, it is easily broken out with pliers. After all this, bend the baguette exactly in the middle of the recess formed.

After you have securely fixed the entire crate, be sure to process the joints with tape. You can use gray household tape sold at any hardware store. And for an aluminum profile, metallized tape is also suitable. It is important to be careful at all stages of installing a stretch ceiling.

Loose walls

Unfortunately, in our profession, loose walls are not uncommon. What to do if a self-tapping screw screwed into the wall does not hold the profile well? There are two ways out: use spacers (braces) or screw additional self-tapping screws into one mounting hole. The second method in most cases saves the situation. One or two additional screws are able to securely fix the baguette. Well, if they did not help, then it is worth resorting to the help of struts. Take a piece of baguette about 15 centimeters and drill a hole in one of the ends. Open the jib into the baguette and ceiling and mark through the hole in the ceiling. Drill under the dowel and hammer it in there. Take the jib and, pulling it up with a self-tapping screw, open the baguette. The spacer should stand rigidly, and the profile should not walk up and down and be pulled away from the wall.

Wood and drywall

Modern houses are built not only from concrete and brick, but often from wood. Yes, and the private sector of Soviet construction is half made of this material. In case of installation wooden walls with you you need to have not only self-tapping screws 51mm long, but also 75mm, 90mm, 110mm in size. Although the walls are wooden, the chopping blocks can hide at a considerable depth under a good layer of plaster, and long screws will help us out perfectly.

It is not uncommon for drywall sheets to be used to level walls. If the installers who install it have experience, and the client warned them in advance about stretch ceilings, then it is a pleasure to attach it to drywall. Usually, experienced GCR masters put an additional 60 * 28 profile on top under the baguette mount. In this case, the step for fastening the screws is standard 12 - 15 cm. In the absence of a profile, it is necessary to fasten it with a "herringbone" at a distance of 8 - 15 cm.

After attaching the stretch ceiling frame, we proceed to the next step:

Stretch fabrics are increasingly found in modern interiors residential and office purposes. Traditionally, when choosing materials for the construction of such ceiling structures great attention given to coatings. However, a good frame is equally important in creating a beautiful, even and reliable decorative surface. Having decided to install such a system on their own, many already at first encounter various difficulties, for example, not knowing which side to mount the baguette for stretch ceilings. In this article, we will describe the main types of these frame elements, as well as analyze the profile installation technology, depending on the material of its manufacture, the type of coating and the condition of the walls.

It's important to know!

The Asta M company presents a revolutionary profile of a new generation - the kraab profile. This baguette allows you to install stretch ceilings using the harpoon method using gapless technology. You can buy such a profile in our online store.

The main types of baguette profiles for stretch ceiling frame

The main task of the ceiling frame is to constantly keep the decorative coating in a taut state. Due to the fact that the tension of the material can be quite strong, profile baguettes sometimes experience high loads. First of all, it depends on the type of canvas, as well as on its area. Taking into account specific technological and design tasks, different types of profiles are selected, which are:

Fig.1. Aluminum profiles for mounting stretch ceilings

  • plastic (PVC);
  • metal (aluminum).

Plastic products are lighter and cheaper. They also have good flexibility, so they behave better on curved sections of the ceiling, fitting closer to the wall. It is easier to make holes for fasteners in them. But such baguettes are less durable and may not be able to cope with the tension force of a large coverage area.

Fig.2. PVC baguette for stretch ceilings

Aluminum profiles are much more reliable and solid, indispensable for straight sections of the structure. Withstand the heaviest material loads. Their price is slightly higher than PVC products. The only negative is the lack of flexibility, which is why they have to be filed in difficult places.

Each of these types of profiles has its own design features, therefore, in order to understand which side to mount a baguette for stretch ceilings, you should know what it is made of. So, a vinyl rail is drilled into a stiffener, which has a cubic shape from the end. But the hole in the metal profile is made in a special shelf. It is important not to confuse these two mounting options.

  • wall profiles (the most common option);
  • ceiling profiles (used where the installation of a stretch fabric to the wall is impossible or undesirable);
  • universal profiles (used on curved sections and three-dimensional ceiling structures).

Fig.3. Curved ceiling profile fixing

Also, baguettes have certain design features (so-called modifications) depending on the technology of fastening the coating (harpoon, glazing bead, clip), the complexity of the ceiling design and its decorative characteristics (profiles for "floating ceilings", for carved canvases of the APPLY series, for multi-level systems) . Thus, an understanding of how and where to install a baguette for stretch ceilings, as well as which side to mount it on, comes only after careful consideration of all the nuances of a particular design project.

Installing a baguette frame for a stretch ceiling

In order to start the process of mounting the frame, it is important to prepare the room, walls, base ceiling, and assemble auxiliary tools.

Fig.4. Profile for bead installation of stretch ceilings

Preparations in the room involve the removal of all interfering objects and furniture from it, the organization of free access to the walls around the perimeter of the room, the removal of the old layer from the walls and the base ceiling decorative finishes(if it crumbles and peels off), familiarization with the plan for the passage of hidden electrical wiring.

As devices and tools you will need:

  • stable ladder;
  • perforator;
  • screwdriver;
  • level (water, but laser is better);
  • scissors (for PVC baguettes) or a hacksaw (for cutting a metal profile);
  • fasteners (dowels, screws).

Fig. 5. Tools for mounting stretch PVC ceilings

The frame installation process itself includes the following steps:

  • preparation of profiles in the required quantity and making mounting holes in them (in increments of 15 cm and indented from the edges by 2-4 cm);
  • drawing even markings on the walls of the room for attaching baguettes;
  • installation of the profile from the most inaccessible place - from the corner (moreover, it is important that in this case not two rails are used, but one; for this it must be cut with inside, bend at a right angle);
  • processing all sharp edges of baguettes at the joints with masking tape (to prevent damage to the vinyl coating).

If the installation of the profile to the walls is complicated by their looseness and instability, experts recommend using additional screws for one mounting hole or longer self-tapping screws. In difficult situations, it is sometimes advisable to install the frame on the base ceiling. In any case, if during the installation process you have any difficulties or you doubt which side to mount the baguette for stretch ceilings, it is better to seek help from professionals. In our online store "Asta M" you can not only different sizes and configuration, but also to order the service of installing a decorative canvas of any kind and area.

The concept of high-quality repair is changing at lightning speed with the birth of fresh design elements and ideas. In the recent past, neatly pasted wallpapers in combination with the correct edging, which is multi-colored paper strips, and sometimes even an ordinary tape, were considered the height of skill.

The modern decoration of the apartment is impossible to imagine without framing. After all, the correct, harmonious combination of the design of two planes is the key to the beauty and comfort of the room. Let us dwell in detail on how to glue baguettes soundly so that the finish looks exemplary.

Properties and features of baguettes

The use of such decor elements contains a number of significant advantages:

  • excellent masking of small defects in the ceiling and walls, such as drop, roughness and unevenness;
  • decoration of the junction of two surfaces;
  • simple installation that does not require professional skills;
  • lightness and flexibility of the material;
  • a large selection of designs;
  • saving money at a reasonable price.

Advice! Before choosing baguettes for the ceiling, it should be noted that they can be made from different material, be of different texture, width, have a smooth or patterned surface. These qualities affect not only their cost, but also the purpose, differences in application for a variety of interiors.

Baguette, also called molding, ceiling plinth or frieze, made from materials:

  • polyurethane;
  • polystyrene;
  • plastic;
  • gypsum;
  • tree.

In most cases, polyurethane and foam baguettes are used. Plastic molding is used only under stretch ceilings, wooden - in connection with the same ceilings.

Choosing the right glue

Each experienced master for mounting the frieze uses an adhesive composition that has been personally tested in the work. Such funds may be:

  • polymeric;
  • acrylic.

Polymeric the composition is characterized by low stickiness. In order to securely fix the molding with such glue, it must be held in the desired position for quite a long time, and this is not entirely easy to provide for a two-meter part.

On the silicone and acrylic glue to install the frieze quickly and comfortably. Manufacturers pack them in tubes for a pistol. The agent is applied with ease, and its consumption is controlled by the diameter of the outlet at the tip.

The procedure for gluing a baguette with silicone and acrylic compounds is usually set out in the instructions for the material. The negative side of such funds can be called their high price.

The most budgetary way of gluing baguettes on your own is the traditional finishing putty or composition for drywall if it is used in decoration. Such a mixture is reliable, it takes less time to harden, so that after half an hour it is already possible to paint the ceiling and baguettes.

However, there are also disadvantages of using putty as glue:

  • the inconvenience of applying a thin layer of the mixture with a spatula on the molding;
  • at the end of gluing, excess putty or drywall glue will need to be thoroughly removed with a dampened brush. Otherwise, pieces of the visible dry mixture will spoil the picture.

How to glue baguettes on the ceiling

There are two options for fixing the ceiling plinth:

  • on the surface of the wallpaper;
  • before wallpapering.

As a rule, baguettes are clean white color In view of this, in order not to contaminate the products, before starting work, thoroughly wash your hands with soap.

Advice! To start the installation of baguettes, you can choose any corner of the room.

You should know some features of the work on the sticker of ceiling plinths:

  1. Much attention should be paid to cleaning the walls and ceiling from traces adhesive composition. Acrylic and silicone based products can be removed with a rubber spatula and a damp cloth. It is recommended to remove excess putty with a small wet brush.
  2. Filling with glue all the cracks around the molding is required. You should also process corner connections. Do not rely on these gaps to be masked by painting or wallpapering. This won't happen. And the glue that has got on the wall and ceiling should be carefully removed.
  3. Often, when the glue hardens at the joints, the end of the baguette moves away, and a step is obtained. To protect against such an effect, two adjacent ends must be fixed in the required position with sewing needles or pins. When the glue hardens, remove the needles and cover the holes with the adhesive mixture.
  4. Several layers of paint are applied to the baguettes. First, priming is performed, which allows masking the puttied joints. Then layers are applied that play a decorative role, and the ceiling is also painted at the same time.
  5. Excess glue along the skirting board should be trimmed with a sharp spatula.

Sticker baguettes on the wallpaper

The obvious advantage of this method is that there is no need to adjust the wallpaper to fit the baguette. The frieze will cover all the errors along the upper edge of the finish.

Procedure:

  1. Trim the ends using a miter box.
  2. Apply a thin layer of glue to the surfaces of the skirting board to be glued.
  3. Attach the bar to the wall and hold, according to the instructions for the glue.
  4. Remove excess material with a sponge or cloth.
  5. Seal gaps with white sealant.
  6. To paint a baguette, use acrylic or water-based paint.

Advice! In order not to stain the wallpaper when coloring the plinth, lay masking tape along the baguette, and after the paint has dried, remove the protection.

How to fix a baguette before wallpapering

This is a professional method, which is performed in the following order:

  1. Prepare walls and ceiling. Get rid of roughness, irregularities with sandpaper, remove building dust from the surface, then cover with a primer mixture.
  2. Trim the ends of the plinth using a miter box.
  3. Fasten the baguette to putty or drywall glue.
  4. Fill all cracks with putty, remove excess with a clean cloth.
  5. Wait for the putty to harden.
  6. Perform surface priming.
  7. Paint the ceiling and baguettes.
  8. Paste wallpaper. Trim the top overlap on the plinth evenly with a sharp knife, using a wide spatula.

The advantage of this method is the ease of correcting adhesive defects and the possibility of painting the baguette installed in place without fear of staining the wallpaper.

Features of mounting a baguette in the corners

It is necessary to adjust the last bar with a cut corner to prevent damage to the material when an error with the corner is detected.

If the room has even corners (90 degrees), then the corners between two walls and between the ceiling and the wall should be straight. In this case, it is possible to correctly cut corners using the miter box.

First you need to cut the corner baguettes with the help of a miter box. Then bring their ends to the required size with a sharp knife. Distribute the gaps evenly over both segments to prevent the effect of a step.

The procedure for using a joiner's miter box:

  1. If there is no experience of such work, we recommend that you practice on small pieces of the frieze.
  2. Place the bar in the miter box as it will be on the ceiling.
  3. Press the lower part of the frieze close to the sidewall of the miter box.

If there is no miter box, you can trim in this way:

  1. Attach the frieze to the corner on the left side.
  2. On the ceiling from the corner, draw a segment (10-15 cm) along the baseboard with a pencil.
  3. Do the same on the right side of the corner.
  4. Where the lines intersect is the start point of the cut.
  5. On the left and right strip, mark the intersection of the segments.
  6. From the mark to the opposite side of the left and right frieze, cut evenly with a construction blade at an angle of 45 degrees.
  7. Check the correctness of the trimming by attaching the processed friezes to the corner.

As you have seen, there is nothing complicated in gluing baguettes. Guided by our advice, you will successfully complete this work.

A baguette, fixed on a wall or ceiling, forms a kind of frame for the fabric of a stretch ceiling system; it can be of different designs. There are several ways to install it.

Initially, a baguette is a bar designed for the manufacture of frames. This is not the same as a skirting board made from plastic or foam. Installing a stretch ceiling baguette gives the surface a finished look and makes the interior of the room stylish.

Types of ceiling moldings

There are situations when it is not impossible to screw screws into the wall at the level of the suspended structure. Usually there are two reasons - these are hidden engineering communications, for example, electrical wiring, or a weak layer of plaster.

In such cases, a ceiling baguette is used for stretch ceilings. For the arrangement of such ceiling structures, a high-quality textile or PVC panel and components designed to hold it are required. This kit includes two types of mounting profile - wall and ceiling.

There are three options for fixing baguette for different methods canvas fastening:

  • harpoon;
  • wedge;
  • cam.

Baguettes for harpoon mounting method

The ceiling baguette used for harpoon fastening of tension sheets is made of aluminum or plastic. This method is more expensive than others, but deservedly in high demand. The baguette for stretch PVC ceilings is sufficiently flexible and, if necessary, is able to repeat the contour of the ceiling of a curly structure.

In order to properly mount a ceiling profile of any kind, the surface of the draft base must be absolutely flat, since the panel is stretched in the same plane in which the fasteners are located.

The harpoon version of fastening a baguette for stretch ceilings is considered the most reliable among all methods. This is because the harpoon-shaped latch, located along the edge of the canvas, is fixed as firmly as possible. When the material is tensioned, it will not jump out of the baguette and will not weaken.

At the latch, one part is movable like a spring. In the process of entering the profile groove, it is compressed, and after passing the protrusion, it is again unclenched and again clings to the protruding part.

Such stretch ceiling structures can be dismantled if necessary. To do this, press the springy part of the harpoon with a spatula and gradually pull it out of the groove along the entire perimeter. In this case, the polyvinyl chloride cloth will not suffer at all.

The main disadvantage this method fastening is considered a long installation and there is an explanation for this. The fact is that the canvas is cut in accordance with the size and configuration of the room. Then a harpoon is soldered along its perimeter. Tailoring of a cloth is made in factory conditions.

It takes certain time. Preparing the installation of a plastic or aluminum baguette for stretch ceilings using the harpoon method will fully justify the expectation. Despite the fact that such a design is expensive, it also has a much longer service life.

Features of the wedge fastening of the stretch ceiling

The wedge method is also called the bead method. It belongs to the frequently used options for installing canvases, as it is convenient and provides a sufficient level of strength. Installation of a baguette for a stretch ceiling used in the wedge method provides rigid fixation of the canvas.

The process of fastening with this method looks like this:

  1. The fabric is folded in half, placed in the profile groove and a wedge is driven in the form of a glazing bead.
  2. Then, a decorative plinth strip is placed in the adjacent groove. She will additionally press the wedge that fixes the panel.

Since PVC material is cut directly at the customer's place of installation of a baguette for stretch ceilings, this feature affects the speed of arranging the ceiling structure.

But this method has a significant drawback. The canvas, which is clamped with a glazing bead, is deformed at the attachment point. For this reason, it is undesirable to dismantle the PVC baguette for ceilings with a PVC sheet installed using the wedge method.

Baguettes for cam fastening

Installation of stretch ceilings using this method is considered the most unpretentious. After completion of work, such a baguette will not need to be covered with a decorative strip, and it is not difficult to install a panel in it. It has a mount, which consists of a fixed and a movable cam. These elements are designed to fix the film.

When the canvas is placed between the cams, it pulls one of them - the movable one. As a result, he begins to press harder and harder against the fixed element, fixing the PVC material even more firmly.

But this way fastening does not provide sufficient rigidity, therefore, experts do not advise installing cam baguettes on a surface whose area exceeds 20 "squares", since wrinkles will accumulate on the surface at large sizes.

If, when deciding how to fix a baguette for stretch ceilings, the cam method is chosen, the bar must be further strengthened. To do this, you can use an overhead chandelier, for which a console is pre-mounted in the ceiling sinus.

The use of a baguette does not mean that a decorative plinth should not be used. A similar product made of foam or plastic in the form of an elegant edging will be a great addition to the stretch ceiling structure.

Buy curtains. If you have not bought any curtains or baguettes yet, you need to decide which style of curtains suits you. There are different styles, each of which gives the room its own flavor and at the same time has some functional differences. Some options include:

  • Drape curtains are usually made from heavy fabrics and are gathered in folds, requiring sliding curtain rods. To hang them, you need to attach hooks to the hinges of the curtains and hang them on the eaves. You can open and close curtains with a cord.
  • Panel, eyelet and drawstring curtains are designed to be hung on a simple round rod. Such curtains at the top may have fabric loops, a drawstring, eyelets through which the rod is passed. Such curtains can be short, reach the window sill, reach the floor, or even be even longer and spread over the floor.
  • Coffee curtains only cover the bottom of the window, allowing light to enter through the window while still providing some degree of privacy. They are widely used in kitchens and are usually suspended from spring cornices installed in the window opening.
  • door curtains have drawstrings at the top and bottom, they require two rods that are attached to the door or simply attached with magnets. Door curtains are often used on French doors and partially glazed doors.

Decide where the curtain should end. When buying curtains, remember that they should cover the entire window (unless they are coffee curtains). When buying curtains on a drawstring, when determining the length of the curtain, do not take into account the length attributable to the drawstring.

  • Floor-length curtains should end 1.25 cm from the floor if you live in a non-humid climate, otherwise they should end 2.5 cm from the floor, as curtains stretch more in humid conditions. If you want your curtains to flow across the floor, you need to make sure they are long enough to do so.
  • Hanging curtains should go down 10 cm below the window sill to cover it with themselves.
  • Curtains up to the window sill should slide over it.
  • Think about how wide you want your curtains to open. If you want to be able to completely remove them from the window, buy a longer baguette with rolls on the edges (90-degree rolls on the ends of the baguettes allow you to remove the curtain to the wall). The length of the wraps on the baguette is determined by the width and type of your curtains.

  • Decide whether you will mount the baguette in the window opening or above it. Installing baguettes in the window opening will mean that part of the window will always be covered with curtains, while installing baguettes above the window opening will allow the curtains to be fully extended. Your choice will depend in part on the style and look you choose, but you may also want to consider the material of the wall or window opening. If you have a plastic window opening, then the baguette will need to be mounted on the wall. If your walls are plastered or made of stone, then it may be easier to mount the baguettes in the window opening.

    • Remember that curtains will only move up to the baguette's mounting brackets (with or without lapels on it), and the style of the curtains will determine whether they can be assembled or not. The volume for which you can collect the curtain is called its plowing.
    • You may want part of the window to remain covered even when the curtains are flung open, or you may want the window to be completely bare to let in as much light as possible.
