Rome or Milan which is better. Train Milan - Rome: travel time, ticket prices

Many travelers, coming to Italy, consider it their duty to visit at least two cities of this country. This is the ancient and modern capital - Rome, and the city of fashion, shopping, opera and amazing cuisine - Milan. Each of them has its own history, holidays, sights, iconic places. There are many ways to get from one city to another. This is a plane, and a bus, and a rented car, and even a taxi. But we want to talk about how to be budget travelers who may not have a driver's license and not much time. Therefore, we will devote this article to one method of transportation. This is the Milan to Rome train. Most independent travelers come to Northern Italy. Many low-cost airlines fly to Milan from different parts of Europe. Therefore, first let's talk about how to come to the capital of Italy.

How fast

The distance between these two cities is quite significant, so a few years ago such a journey took a lot of time. It took five or six hours to get from the north of the country to the capital. After all, it was necessary to drive about six hundred kilometers. Now the Milan-Rome train covers this distance in just three hours. Of course, if it's fast. There are only two types of such trains. The first one is Italotreno. It is considered the most comfortable. The Trenitalia company also has them. But they are more expensive, although the level of comfort is lower. Their trains are called "Freccia", that is, "arrow". Italotreno is a private carrier. The fact is that in 2012 they were liberalized and the right to carry out transportation was taken away from the monopolist. It was the Trenitalia company. But the competitor has already achieved popularity in a few years both with the fastest trains and low prices.

On the way to

How to get on the high-speed train Milan - Rome? It's very simple. Such trains depart from the main station of the city "Milano Centrale". They arrive at the main station of the capital "Roma Termini". Express trains run non-stop. Italotreno trains do it in record time - two hours and forty minutes. Other high-speed trains may pass through different stations. For example, some of them make stops in Florence and Bologna along the way. Traveling by high-speed trains is very convenient. The road is like a vacation. Except admiring beautiful scenery, you have the opportunity to use Wi-Fi. There is climate control, electronic scoreboards indicating speed and time, as well as outside temperature. Drivers are in uniform and very polite. The chairs are comfortable and the toilets are clean. In Italotreno carriages, in addition to restaurants, there are also cinemas.

Train Milan - Rome. Schedule

High-speed trains and express trains go to the capital from six in the morning until ten in the evening. In order not to be mistaken, pay attention to the stands at the station. On one of them will be written "Arrivi", that is, arrival. On the other "Partenets" - retreat. The number of the train, the gauge from which it departs, and the name of the station of the final station are usually indicated there. As a rule, trains of any category arrive on time. The delay can be within a few minutes. There are, of course, situations when the Milan - Rome train - however, like any other - can be canceled due to strikes of employees railway. But this is usually a week's notice. But, for example, in France, you can learn about the strike in just a day, when you no longer have time to change plans. Regional trains, simply speaking, electric trains, or even Intercity, go along the Milan-Rome route for quite a long time. The train, the travel time of which can be six or even ten hours (if you count with transfers), often comes not to the Roma Termini station, but to the Tiburtina station. The night express arrives on the Ostienza.

How to buy tickets

To board the Milan-Rome train, you must, of course, purchase a travel document. Tickets can be bought in the usual, classic way - at the box office at the station. But be aware that you will have to stand in a long line. True, if you know how to use the machine, it will save time. But on the day of departure, tickets can be very expensive. In addition, this direction is very popular. And it is not uncommon for tourists who were going to go to Rome to face a situation where there were not enough tickets for them. Therefore, experienced travelers are advised to make such purchases in advance, and via the Internet. Then you can "get" on sales and promotions, as well as have time to purchase economy class tickets. The average price for such a train one way is about fifty to seventy euros. If you buy a ticket on the day of departure, you can pay a hundred. Children under 14 have a 50% discount. Italotreno trains are slightly cheaper. A trip in their carriages costs 33 Є, and if you buy a discounted two-month travel document, you will pay less than twenty euros. But it cannot be returned. If you buy tickets online, it comes to your email as a PDF file. You print it out and you can get on the train. But the ticket purchased at the box office must not be forgotten to be punched. Otherwise, your travel document will be invalid.

Return trip

Sooner or later you will have to return to Milan. Or, suppose you want to visit this proud city of northern Italy while in the country's capital. Then you need a Milan - Rome train. The price and travel time are approximately the same as when traveling from the North of Italy to the capital. High-speed or regional direct trains run every hour between seven in the morning and eight in the evening. There is also a night flight. He leaves Rome at almost midnight and arrives in Milan seven hours later.

The official capital of Italy is Rome, this is not disputed by anyone. The administrative center of the state. The eternal city, founded before our era, the keeper of the relics of centuries of history.
But there is a dream city in Italy, almost the capital, filled with light and greenery - Milan.

By the way, so ancient and well-deserved that the question arises - is the capital of Italy Milan or?

A bit of history

The main city of northern Italy - the history of the city proves that it is the second largest after Rome, the financial, economic, business and cultural capital of the country, the world capital of fashion. It is enough to list a few names and titles so that the paramount importance of Milan in the history of Italy does not raise questions:

  • Duke Visconti;
  • Cathedral of El Duomo;
  • La Scala Theatre;
  • Arturo Toscanini;
  • Puccini, Verdi;
  • Leonardo da Vinci;
  • Santa Maria della Grazie;
  • Duke Francesco Sforza;
  • Versace, Armani... and so on.

Founded by the Celts in the distant 600 BC, the city was conquered by the Romans, who gave it the name Mediolan, standing in the center of the plain. During its heyday, Milan competes with Rome for the title of the center of the Western Roman Empire. Famous Milanese glorified their hometown for centuries. The first Duke of Milan, Gian Galeazzo Visconti, initiated the construction of the most famous cathedral in the history of Italy, El Duomo, in the 14th century.

The cathedral was built for a long time, almost six centuries, but it became a classic of “flaming Gothic”, an openwork monument to Milanese artisans. The semi-dark hall of the cathedral strikes with the subtlety of execution, the number of sculptures, bas-reliefs, the number of columns, the swiftness of the dome, and the multi-colored stained-glass windows. The carved organ with malachite patterns and the gilded Madonna, the patroness of the city, dominate here.

Opera Milan

Everyone sings in Milan, despite the glory of the business capital, the city is very light, transparent. It is no coincidence that built on the site of the dilapidated church of St. Maria della Scala theater building soon becomes the main opera house not only in Italy, but in the world. To sing on stage at La Scala is the dream of every singer.

Milan artistic

The inconspicuous church of Santa Maria della Grazie became world famous thanks to Leonardo da Vinci's painting "The Last Supper", which adorned the wall of the refectory. Miraculously surviving during the bombing, the picture still attracts thousands of fans today.

Milan is also famous for its art collections - connoisseurs of art are sure to come to the Pinacoteca de Brera, Ambrosiana.

Milan is the capital of fashion

Needless to say, Milan is the capital of fashion; world fashion houses are founded and flourish in Milan. The names of Versace, Louis Vuitton, Armani, Gucci, Cavalli speak for themselves... Famous fashion weeks are held here, the whole fashion world gathers.

Milan is a small city, convenient, compact, beautiful. It has everything for a happy life. Even crowds of tourists do not spoil it - the townspeople know how to receive guests, feed, surprise, give rest and delight with beauty and grace.

Good day) I decided to fulfill my childhood dream - a trip to Italy. When: end March - beginning April, for 3-4 days. 2 adult girls, the essence of the trip: walking, watching, eating.
Question: which of the cities is better / cheaper / more beautiful.
There is never a lot of money) and is it worth booking everything yourself or trusting the GP?
Thank you all for your help, may your kindness return to you three times)

Quote:
The question is your preferences, the cities are very different, for me, all three options for 3-4 days are quite good, each in its own way.
As for cheaper, first decide on air tickets, for example, on search engines
http://www.skyscanner.ru/
http://www.momondo.com/
Are connecting flights right for you? On such a flight, you will most likely be able to save money, on the other hand, both the time of departure and the duration of the connection are important for you so as not to waste time on a short trip.
Look at Alitalia in Florence, quite convenient connecting flights through Rome can be found with a morning departure from Moscow (by the way, what city of departure ??) and an evening return of about 9 thousand rubles.
Try to calculate how much an independent trip will cost you and what offers the TO has. Most likely, such a short trip, if you manage to buy cheap air tickets, it will come out cheaper on your own.

OOO, thank you, how many immediately useful information!
Departure from Moscow, we are not afraid of connections, but we really don’t want to waste time either.
I realize how few days I have for such a beautiful country, but alas and ah) circumstances and the last chance) I hope someday I will be able to continue my acquaintance with beautiful Italy.
I'll dig for tickets! Thanks again, thanks, thanks.
To be continued

Don't be discouraged) A trip for 3-4 days is also very good, lately I really like such trips, despite the short period of impressions like for a whole vacation.
In Rome, try to look at Airberlin, I flew them on such a short trip, flights with short and fairly convenient connections through Berlin-Tegel, the airport is small, moreover, often one of the most budget options, only flights are not every day.

I dare to advise, because we are on the same trip - 4 days Venice, 2 days Milan, 4 days Rome. Actually, we have already been in Rome 4 times and for a long time, but we love the city and miss it very much, so we left it for a snack :) We were in Venice for the first time, I understand that we were very lucky with the weather, we arrived from snowy Moscow to sunny and warm a fairy tale, but I do not think that this is the only thing. I am still in emotional shock! After reading a bunch of reviews and books, reviewing the same bunch of photos, I did not expect that I would plunge into such a city sparkling with romance and fun! We were able to visit almost everywhere, although only now I am starting to put my impressions in order. Today we arrived in Milan. I have a complete feeling that I have returned to Moscow: (The Cathedral, of course, is beautiful, and tomorrow we will run around the rest of the sights, but I would have known it would be better for another 2 days in Venice. By the way, in Venice we stayed at the Al Codega hotel. I highly recommend it, with Reasonably priced for a 4 star, excellent location (between San Marco and Rialto) and very high quality rooms and breakfasts.I realized that I would definitely return to Venice!

I’ll tell you about my travel experience, we took a shopping tour without obligations and cheaper a hotel in Rimini because we were there at a minimum, I booked hotels through booking for the first time, so I was worried about how everything would go, as a result everything went perfectly 1 night Florence, 2 nights Venice and 3 nights Rome
The first outing was in Florence 2 days 1 night hotel 2 * Balcony but in the center near the station, and from the terrace you can see the red dome of the Duomo (the main cathedral) very convenient as a guide, compared to 3 * in Rimini, the hotel was delighted , in my opinion, when choosing a hotel, the main thing is not stardom, but price, location, reviews. We went there by Eurostar with a change in Bologna, back three times cheaper through the town of Faenza on a regional train, Florence from Rimini 159 km.
Venice from Rimini is somewhere 200-something km, also conveniently regional, the hotel is near the Santa Lucia station, where the Grand Canal, the main transport artery, begins (it’s convenient not to run up the stairs with a suitcase over the bridges, by the way, the sea trams were crowded with people, which it’s also not convenient with a suitcase, and a water taxi from 15 euros + per mileage and it’s the cheapest to live near the station). Venice is an absolute delight and two nights were not enough to see everything, I just didn’t want to leave.
From Venice to Rome, the euro-old price is 76 euros, but they rushed in 3 hours, regional 6 hours, the city after Venice seemed dirty and crowded with people including blacks, Arabs, homeless people + got on weekends from Friday to Monday, in fact, sometimes it was not around not a single Italian, what to ask, the same tourists with maps around, the sights are simply crammed with people, you can’t go to the Trevi Fountain, there is nowhere to stumble on the Spanish stairs, there is a crowd of suspicious blacks near the Colosseum, they immediately say keep your bags in hotels, in the Sistine Chapel the people were crowded like herrings in a barrel, in a tourist bus with an audio guide, like at rush hour - all this put a negative impression.
And Venice is just a fairy tale.

If for 3-4 days in total, then I personally would only go to one city. And definitely not in Milan. Either Venice or Rome. If this is your first time in Italy, maybe it's better to go to Rome, for starters. Monitor air tickets on airline websites. Lufthansa now has good prices to Europe, it will be a transfer flight, convenient, clear, backlash is usually clear. You can find 10-13 tr. with a change in Frankfurt, etc. You can also look at KLM and Air France. Well, try Aeroflot. And I would advise you to do it at the very end of March, not for Easter. Easter week in Europe, for Catholics from April 1 to April 8, hotel prices rise.
