How to keep warm in winter while fishing. How to keep warm on ice fishing

January is the coldest Siberian month. Fishing in a hard frost is a serious test for a person. Since humanity left its ancestral home somewhere in Africa and settled in the northern latitudes, man has been accumulating experience in surviving in cold conditions from century to century.

Many people know that the most cold country in the world is Russia. Our average annual temperature is -2°С. Even in a northern country like Canada, the average temperature is in the plus range. Unlike most states, Russia is forced to spend huge amounts of money and energy resources to heat the country. People also learned to survive in these the most difficult conditions and not only survive, but also enjoy the Russian winter.

How to keep warm in Russian, every angler knows well. But alcohol "helps" only in small doses, but seriously, the heat from alcohol is self-deception. Rather, this is how: when taking alcohol, the blood vessels really expand, and we feel a surge of heat. But after about half an hour, the vessels constrict again, and we become cold again.

Of course, alcohol gives short-term warmth and, like a powerful energy drink, a surge of strength, but it’s worth overdoing it with a dose, as a person’s feelings become dull, and he no longer feels cold. For this reason, it is so often in a drunken state that frostbite occurs. Approximately the same effect and coffee, the effect of which is also short-term. Where better to warm up hot tea or chicken bouillon brought on a fishing trip in a thermos.

So how can you warm up in the cold correctly and without consequences? Let's break it all down to make it more clear and understandable.

Clothing and footwear. Of course, it is with our equipment that winter fishing begins, and not with fishing rods and other gear, as beginner “penguins” think. In Siberia, having good clothes comes first. Without warm clothes, winter fishing is not only uncomfortable, but also dangerous to health. Of course, here everyone chooses clothes according to their means, but keep in mind that quite acceptable clothes cost not so much money, and health is more expensive in any case.

A good winter suit-overalls will not only keep your body warm longer, but also warm your lower back - the most vulnerable place of a person. A cold back is an almost incurable disease, and you don’t even want your enemy to suffer from rheumatism or osteochondrosis.

Most modern fishing suits are made from breathable materials, but even more so. useful thing This is a warm thermal underwear designed for low temperatures. On winter fishing, you often sweat, and as soon as your underwear gets wet, you start to freeze quickly. Thermal underwear removes excess moisture in just 10-15 minutes, and the angler is dry again, which means warm.

Warm shoe covers (chuni) or special winter boots, warm insoles (available with electric heating from batteries) and two pairs of socks are put on without fail: ordinary cotton and woolen tops. Replacing them - some warm winter socks made of thermal materials.

But keep in mind that the foot in the shoes should always feel free, otherwise the same warm air layer will be absent again and the feet will start to freeze. Therefore, choose shoes for winter fishing one, or better two, sizes larger than you usually wear.

If your suit is with a hood, then it is quite enough to put on a warm knitted hat on your head. Although fur hats are warm, it is easier to sweat in them, which means to freeze. It has become hot - raise the hood and remove excess steam, it has become cold - put on the hood again.

As for the various face masks, they are good when traveling on a snowmobile, when the face is heavily frosted over in the cold wind. But if you take off the mask, it will instantly harden, as the vapor you exhale turns into frost on the mask. So, on the way back, it is better to have a spare mask with you, or warm up your only mask in your bosom.

Hand warmer. This topic deserves special attention, since it is the hands that most often freeze when fishing. The angler should have several pairs of thin gloves with him directly for fishing. Some gloves are icy - we put on others.

You also need two pairs of fur coats or mittens for quick and real warming. Moreover, these mittens should be large and freely dressed directly on the gloves. There was a bite - with a slight movement you throw off the mittens from your hands and continue fishing with gloves on. It is desirable that all gloves and mittens be black. This color is both warmer and easier to find in the snow.

You can also purchase special hand warmers. Inside these metal boxes, there is a bar of combustible material (cartridge). After ignition for several hours, the cartridge burns and heats the capsule, on which we, in turn, warm our hands. But keep in mind that cartridges are quite difficult to ignite and sometimes it is almost impossible to ignite them with matches or a gas lighter, and even in the cold. Therefore, kindle the cartridge either before going fishing, or on a pond from a fire or gasoline lighters.

There is also an “old-fashioned” way of warming hands that every angler should know. Take off your gloves and put them in your bosom or under your arm, where it's warmer. Always do just that, otherwise without the warmth of your hands, even light moisture on the gloves will turn into ice and the gloves will “petrify”. Next, put your hands in the snow, and even better in the water (acts faster). Wash your hands in water or snow for 20-30 seconds.

After this procedure, carefully dry your hands with a cotton towel, which should also always be with you. You will feel how your hands “light up”, and they will literally become warm.

The fact is that with a sharp cooling of your hands, you expose your body to a little stress, and its response is to launch an “emergency heating”. “Walruses” are well aware of this phenomenon. Immediately put on mittens and jump on the spot, and in general try to move more and sharper. The blood flow will increase, and you will warm up completely.

Shelter. Shelter protects us not only from frost and wind, but gives us the opportunity to create a warmer microclimate. In the tent, you can not only fish, but also leave things, and periodically come in to warm up and have a bite to eat.

If you are going to fish in a tent, then there are proven methods to do it in more comfortable conditions. At the bottom of the tent (according to its size), you need to put either a tourist rug or building insulation (of course, with holes for holes). The greatest cold in the tent comes from the ice, and with these non-thermal-conducting materials we exclude both the leakage of heat and the influx of cold.

Next, you need to cover the bottom of the tent with snow around the perimeter to a height of 20-30 cm from the outside. Now, even without heaters, only from your breath and body heat in the tent will already be several degrees warmer than on the “street”. You can raise the temperature even higher with a lit paraffin candle (it is better to take not narrow and long, but wide candles). You can also warm the air in the tent from gasoline or gas burners (preferably infrared - without a flame).

Which type of heating is better is difficult to say for sure. Keep in mind that in any case, combustion burns oxygen and releases carbon monoxide, so a little periodic ventilation is indispensable.

Work. Most useful way to keep warm is to periodically drill holes. Just felt that you are starting to freeze - take an ice drill and drill 2-3 holes. In general, any work, even just walking, helps not to freeze. It is especially important to move the legs. Without movement, the legs freeze even in ten socks.

Bonfire. The most radical remedy is to fish close to the fire and keep warm from time to time. I think that every angler knows and knows how to light a fire in the snow, and if he doesn’t know, it’s easy to learn how to do it. Most importantly, do not forget to take birch bark, paper, or other kind of kindling with you, because it is almost impossible to find kindling material in the snow.

Winter firewood is almost always dry, since it does not rain in winter, and finding brushwood that is not covered with snow is not a great problem. For kindling, break thin dry branches. If possible, clear the ground of snow and build a fire on the ground. If this is not possible, make a base of several thick sticks or logs, and organize a fire on them.

Food. As strange as it may seem to you, proper nutrition also plays an important role for the fisherman. Before fishing and fishing, it is best to eat hot and hearty food. The most useful and rational food for fishing is lard and hot tea or broth. Hearty, warm and instantly energizes the body.

Dream. In winter, our body spends one and a half times more energy than in summer. Healthy and most importantly long sleep helps restore energy. Therefore, the more and longer you sleep before fishing, the better.

If you came for fishing with an overnight stay and spend the night not in comfortable conditions, but in a field camp (dugout or winter tent). Try to create such a temperature that it becomes hot, even if not for long - for half an hour, but you should warm up thoroughly. If you feel cold all the time, then this feeling will remain with you for the whole day of fishing. And even if you get a little cold in the tent in the morning, then before fishing you need to create “Africa” again and go fishing already warmed up.

And the last thing… Before you go fishing for a few days, check the weather forecast. If a sharp temperature drop is coming from heat to cold or vice versa, then in most cases this is due to a change in cyclones and a pressure drop, which means it does not promise a good bite.

Keep in mind that fishing at temperatures below -30C ° is not only dangerous to health, but also most often ineffective. In my memory, there are hardly two or three worthy fishing trips in severe frosts. The maximum temperature for fishing during the day should not be lower than -25C °. And if a breeze blows even in such a frost ... Although, when the fish are biting, then there is no time to freeze, just have time - catch it. So - no tail, no scales!

Hello, dear readers of the site. The theme of heating a tent in winter is extremely relevant for those who like to fish from the ice - as they say, fish is fish, and no one has canceled the comfort and pleasure from the process. When the frost gets stronger, and the wind tears so that warm clothes do not save, many fishermen decide .

The very first fishing trip with a tent will make you think - how to heat the tent on winter fishing? How to insulate, what heating devices are better to use? This article aims to reveal the topic of heating and answer these questions.

Statement of the problem of heating a tent for fishing in winter

Choosing a device for heating is a two-level task:

  1. Determine the size of the heated tent- it will be single or for a team of fishermen (since tents are often made square, 4 people is the standard). The required power of the heater sets the many possible options for burners, tiles and other fixtures.
  2. Choosing a unit for heating a winter tent- the most responsible stage, as it is associated with financial costs and the fisherman's hope for a happy, safe and most importantly long-term use of the heating device.

Personally, I have experience in operating winter fishing tents of both sizes, so I will briefly talk about each type of tent and possible devices heating.

Heating of a single tent for winter fishing

I started with a self-unfolding tent for 500 r (a traditional purchase in the Chinese market), shown in the photo:

I’ll explain right away: although formally this tent is for two people, only one person has enough space to fish in it. The tent has been modified with a three-meter zipper that allows you to unzip and bend the bottom segment for access to the holes. As a rule, two holes were used both in freshwater reservoirs and at sea, for and flounder. Enough of such a tent for one to three seasons. I tried many heating options in this tent and came to one, but everything is in order.

Heating the tent with stoves and burners based on gas cartridges

In Primorye and the surrounding regions (up to the Vologda region), Chinese portable gas cylinders with liquefied gas have spread like cockroaches. Prices for spray cans are growing, but the stick is not going too far - the popularity of tins does not subside.

Gas canisters and burners for heating the tent in winter

The tempting cost of burners and simplicity are the panacea for winter heating tents for fishing! But it wasn’t there - in the garage and at home, gas and burners of this type are relevant, but as soon as things go below -10-15 degrees Celsius, these devices will let you down. The can freezes and requires heating to work.

I share my experience, and before my eyes are memories of how, at 5 in the morning, after setting up the tent in a mad wind, I hoped for heating from a gas burner, and vainly kindled it - it takes chills.

Burners give a lot of heat, but extremely flammable! Even in mild conditions (10 degrees of frost and above), the burner can sneeze with emissions of gas and, accordingly, fire. During transportation, the burner should be carefully isolated from other things - a mote can get into it and the heating will end before it starts. In front of my eyes, one comrade tried to clean his burner, and as a result, his eyebrows disappeared ... It could have been worse.

Gas stove on spray cans - a great option only in the summer

The option of a gas stove in a convenient black suitcase looks tempting - you can warm up and boil coffee, or even fry fish. But gas cartridges entail the same troubles as with burners - they do not work in the cold. Cylinders require systematic heating, while hissing ominously when heated over an open fire.

A familiar fisherman, when heating the tent, found this way out: he took two cylinders from the package - one was inserted into the tile, and the second was hidden in the bosom. As soon as the fire on the burner weakened, he made a replacement. However, an ice belt forms on the canister according to the gas level, it can “wet” your well-being, and in general, sitting with ice under a winter suit is a controversial pleasure.

There are options for solving the problem of freezing a gas canister. Watch a short video about heating a fishing tent in winter with gas from a small bottle with one of these options:

To sum it up: burners and stoves are a mess, you need something more reliable to heat your tent in winter.

Let's move on to the next option - liquid fuel stoves, spirit stoves, burners.

Heating the tent with liquid fuel stoves and burners

Many devices on kerosene and gasoline are produced by the industry. Domestic (often still Soviet) "Bumblebee" and "Spark", as well as imported "Coleman" and, of course, Chinese ones were widely used.

Gasoline and kerosene burners and stoves for heating the tent in winter

I used Bumblebee - orange in the picture. Everything in it is wonderful: it burns well, it is frost-resistant, it is convenient to cook food and heat the tent. Perhaps I would recommend that you also get one, like other storytellers on the topic "How to heat a tent." But there is an experience not of a couch character, but of a fisherman, both at sea and on the river. He says that the disadvantages of gasoline and kerosene are strong:

Kerosene lantern heater for winter tent

  1. There is a need haul a canister of fuel(it's not for me to tell you about the price of good, reliable canisters). One and a half, five-liter - a temporary solution, bringing the smell of gasoline (kerosene) and a non-zero probability of leakage.
  2. Hand contact with fuel is inevitable. Wearing gloves, working with the details of a primus stove is almost fantastic, which means you will stink of gasoline or kerosene !!! No, not for fishermen (I wiped my hands and it seems normal), but for fish. You adjusted the light, adjusted the bait (worm, scallop or shrimp) with your hand and you start to tell: “ At first it didn’t peck, and then it chopped off ...«.
  3. Gasoline and kerosene are higher hydrocarbons than gas, often burn with soot and soot on pots and kettles. Yes, and it smells in tents with such heating, frankly, not very much. You will get used to it, but an outside observer will immediately smell it. At home, from clothes and all fishing junk equipment will be carried in such a way that there is no need to tell further.

In a separate seductive category, I will single out kerosene heaters-lanterns. It will warm a single tent and give light to the hole - just fantastic! But they are fully inherent in all the above disadvantages. These problems are not sucked out of a finger, I myself encountered. No matter how carefully you use gasoline and kerosene heaters for a fishing tent in winter - the fish knows about it!

Tent heating with dry fuel devices

Dry fuel is suitable for heating the tent and preparing food, however, if you are not the head of a warehouse with dry rations and an unlimited supply of fuel tablets, you will have to purchase large enough volumes of tablets (briquettes) in order to warm up all night. It is tritely inconvenient and dangerous to use, constantly underlay, control ... To warm up food - yes, to heat the tent - no.

Using candles to heat a tent

We have reached a very interesting, trouble-free and quite effective way heating a single tent. The candle is ideal for heating small tents in any environment. If the frost is not strong, then Gelendzhik in the tent will create an ordinary tea or paraffin candle.

If the frost is stronger than -15 degrees, then such a candle is enough to create a buffer thermal zone in the upper part of the tent. They took out the fish, wet their hands - raised it up for a few seconds and you're done. There will be objectors, of course, but I myself checked - it’s enough to warm the limbs at -30, and what else is needed? After all, they didn’t come to the ice in sneakers.

While I was traveling with a single tent, I always used such candles for heating - they are inexpensive, they burn for a long time, there is enough heat. Many devices have been invented to store heat from candles. For example, here are short but capacious videos about making a heater based on a candle with your own hands:

I did not make a stove, I took paraffin candles and a candlestick - and there was enough light and warmth at night.

For a real fisherman, winter is not a hindrance, but on the contrary, it is a great time to go fishing. Many believe that fishing is not leisure or sport, but a real philosophy, and winter fishing has special admirers. However, winter fishing is also an extreme pastime, because the fisherman spends a long time without moving in open space at a significant sub-zero temperature.

Let's start with the fact that successful winter fishing can take place at temperatures down to -18. In more frosty weather, it is more correct to refrain from going to ice fishing for fish. Also control the time spent on the ice. Do not spend more than three or four hours on this. The main points that you need to focus on when going to the winter river, further.

The most important thing for an angler in winter is to dress properly. The main enemy in the open space of the river with low mobility is cold. You can freeze even at -5 degrees. Therefore, clothing must be selected with legibility. First of all, trousers, and not even trousers, but overalls. This is important to keep the back closed. Otherwise, there is a danger of catching a cold in the lower back, it is known what this is fraught with. It is very difficult to get rid of sciatica, and you will have to forget about fishing in the winter. The overalls, the upper fabric of which is bologna, filled with a two- or three-layer padding polyester, will not only keep you warm, but also protect you from icy water in case of a splash from the hole or other accident. Jacket must be long good insulation and a hood that, in windy weather, can be thrown over a warm knitted hat. A woolen hat is preferable to a fur hat, as you will sweat faster in fur earflaps. Sweating even in the cold is very likely. While the fisherman is getting ready for the ambush, equipping the place, cutting holes, he quickly warms up, the skin sweats. Underwear gets wet and then cools down the body. Therefore, it is better to stock up on thermal underwear in advance, which pulls off excess moisture and normalizes heat transfer.

Feet also need to be protected from the cold. You have to stand on ice, so the shoes cool quickly through the sole. Only good winter boots or boots with thick corrugated soles can hold out on winter fishing with dignity. They must be thermally insulated, impervious to water and have a high top. It is necessary to provide them with thick fur insoles, or battery-operated heated insoles. Shoes should be a size larger so that cotton and woolen socks can be warmed up. When putting on shoes, you need to follow the rule so that the shoes do not sting, otherwise you can freeze even in good shoes and warm socks.

The hands of a fisherman in winter are also exposed to cold, and with a good catch, also ice water. Therefore, enhanced protection does not hurt. Before leaving the house, you need to lubricate your hands with a greasy protective cream, and take it with you. Woolen double gloves or fur-lined leather gloves go well with fur or large knitted mittens that are worn over. Be sure to bring a spare set of gloves with you. You can purchase a portable hand warmer that runs on charcoal cartridges. The cartridge is set on fire, the coal begins to smolder and heats up the metal case.

You can warm up your hands in this way quite quickly. The cartridge is designed for 30-40 minutes. But there is one inconvenience, changing the cartridge and setting it on fire, the occupation is not very convenient, especially in the cold.

The traditional notion of warming, associated with the adoption of strong liquor, is not suitable for fishing. The action of alcohol is rapid, it quickly dilates the blood vessels, causes some sweating, and then the vessels also quickly narrow, and it becomes cold again. In addition, if you add alcohol in portions to keep you feeling warm, in the cold it is very easy to miscalculate the dose and get into a state where it is difficult to assess the situation, and this is doubly dangerous on ice. Therefore, it is better to grab a large thermos with hot broth or herbal tea.

Even if the clothes are chosen correctly, with a decrease in temperature, windy weather or snowfall, there is still a danger of hypothermia. Help will be a small tent, which is used as a shelter.

On the "floor" of the tent is covered with building insulation or a tourist rug, in order to additionally separate the legs from the ice, holes for holes should be provided. Then the tent is set up, leaving only the top valve ajar. The walls of the tent will retain even the warmth of your breath. You can additionally heat the space with a dry-fuel or gas mini-stove.

You can also heat tea on this stove. Some people use the most common household candles made of paraffin, but still an open fire in a small space is the release of carbon dioxide and a fire hazard. It is necessary that the tent has transparent windows so as not to be isolated without a view of the surroundings.

Don't forget to move from time to time, do simple exercises. This will help keep you warm and stretch. Successful bite!

Hiking in nature with a tent is always an adventure. And it doesn’t matter what time of the year it is: winter is not a hindrance for true lovers of forest tourism. Experienced hikers know how to keep warm in a tent: they stock up on insulated sleeping bags, double-layer tents, and warming tea (read more about how to choose a sleeping bag). Choosing a parking spot away from the wind is half the battle. Make sure the tent is warm and comfortable at night. Nowadays, there are many ways to heat a tent. Let's consider in more detail.

Heating tent for fishing

The first thing to do is to decide on the volume of the room that will need to be heated. Tent for one or more people - these are tasks for different types heaters. On the topic - how to heat a tent on winter fishing, there are many videos and opinions of experienced fishermen. We will try to collect together the basic information on this issue.

How to heat a tent

Tiles and burners based on gas cartridges

The first thing that attracts winter fishermen to this method heating a tent is the affordability of such cartridges. But if the temperature drops below - 10 degrees, the can will freeze and need to be heated.

Burners do a good job of heating a winter fishing tent, but the risk of fire is extremely high due to possible gas and fire emissions. Yes, and it is worth transporting it separately from other things so that no debris gets inside the burner. Otherwise, nothing good will come of heating: either it will not light up at all, or it will flare up.

Tile on cans is good more in the summer, perhaps in the fall. The tiles packed in a black suitcase are especially convenient: you can warm up something, for example, tea or coffee.

Liquid fuel stoves, spirit stoves, burners

What's bad: you need to carry a can of fuel with you. Moreover, the canister must be of high quality, in order to avoid leakage. Plus, with direct contact with hands, the smell of gasoline or kerosene is extremely difficult to get rid of. What's good - and it heats up perfectly, and you can cook something.

You can use kerosene heaters-lanterns. Single tent warms with a bang, perfectly illuminates the hole. But the minus is the same - fuel.

How to heat a tent while camping

All of the above can be applied not only for autumn-winter fishing, but also on a hike. Let's add a few more to these.

How to heat a tent with a candle

This method is more suitable for autumn than for winter cold. First of all, we note the danger of heating the tent with a candle: it is still an open fire. However, if you have insomnia and can watch the flame all night, then this is just your option. You can also put a candle in a safe burner. At one time, tourists came up with a way using an old flask thermos. The candle is placed in it, and when it falls, it remains there. And heating the walls of the thermos with it increases heat transfer.

Heating the tent with stones

Old way. Designed for colder weather. But in order to keep the heat of the stone for a long time, it will be necessary to carry out a number of simple manipulations. The first option is to put it in a container (pot or pan with thick walls) and cover it with a lid. The heat will dissipate more slowly. The second option is to wrap the stone in foil, preferably in several layers. Thus, the stone will remain warm for 6-8 hours. If you feel that the temperature has decreased, it is tedious to remove one layer of foil.

Heating with water

A container of water is heated and covered with a lid. All this simple device is installed on pre-prepared pieces of wood or stones. 3-4 hours of heat are provided to you.

How to heat a tent with a fire

Another common way to heat a tent is to place it on the spot where the fire burned. They dig a hole the size of the tent and keep the fire in this place for several hours. After the big coals burn out, it is covered with a layer of earth no more than 10 cm, dry grass is placed on top and a tent is set up in this place. The heat will stay until dawn.

How to warm up a tent

Old-fashioned way to warm a tent

People with imagination, of course, can come up with many devices from improvised materials in order to heat the tent. As an option - using a kerosene lamp and a piece of tin.

  1. A tin square is rolled up into a cylinder about 40 cm and gets drunk. The diameter should match the diameter of the top of the kerosene lamp.
  2. Next, six circles are cut out of the same material and with the same diameter. It is better to put small “petals” around the edges so that it is convenient to solder them to the cylinder.
  3. Several holes are made in each of the circles. They are made closer to the edge of the circle and not over the entire area, but only in one place. Should be a cluster from 6-8 holes.
  4. These circles are located inside the cylinder at an equal distance from each other so that the holes are not in the same line, but alternate in location. That is, the air will rise through them not in a straight line, but in waves.
  5. The top of the cylinder is closed with a lid with a small piece (approximately 10 cm) of a metal hose inserted into it. As a result, warm air will come out of it.
  6. The whole structure is mounted on top of a kerosene lamp. The heat will rise up spreading through the tent. Thus, you can heat the tent in winter while fishing, there is a detailed video instruction on this.

The better to heat the tent - reviews

Oksana, 39 years old.“My husband and I love to climb mountains. And mostly in winter. The air there at this time is such that you can not breathe. How many health benefits! At one time, a dog was eaten on tourist equipment. Often we leave for more than one day, we can spend the night in the mountains for a night, or even more than one. When heating the tent, we use stones. They have already got used to it: it retains heat for a long time, you can always find them in the mountains, even in winter. And it doesn't require much physical effort. Wrap in foil."

Ruslan, 27 years old.“We love campfire evenings with friends. Guitar, songs - romance! As our parents rested with us, the habit was passed on to us - to spend the weekend in the forest. We usually heat the tent with a fire. There is nothing complicated about this, and the heat lasts for a long time, almost all night. You can even walk barefoot in the tent.”

Alexander. 32 years.“We got into hiking quite recently. Before setting out on our first hike, we studied a lot of materials on what is better to buy, how to build a fire, where to put up a tent, etc. Not everything turned out right away and well. But we decided not to give up. And literally from the third time we spent quite a comfortable and warm night in the open air. How did you get warm at night? Yes, very simple. They filled canisters of hot water. One canister was left at the exit of the tent, the other was placed at the head of our sleeping places. And two smaller canisters were put in sleeping bags. It turned out such a kind of heating pads. Enough for almost the whole night, at least those that we put in sleeping bags. Those that were left just in the tent cooled down in the end. We do not plan to stop at this method, we will try others. But we will definitely remember this one.”

I am fond of hiking and traveling, photography and video filming.

I have been hiking since childhood. The whole family went and went - sometimes to the sea, then to the river, to the lake, to the forest. There was a time when we spent a whole month in the forest. They lived in tents and cooked over a fire. Perhaps that is why even now I am drawn to the forest and, in general, to nature.
I travel regularly. Approximately three trips per year for 10-15 days and many 2 and 3 day hikes.
