Do-it-yourself goats for sawing firewood - how to make a device for sawing with a chainsaw. Homemade goats for sawing firewood Attachment for sawing firewood with a chainsaw

Since the goat device is quite simple, it will be possible for everyone to make them, even for the first time faced with this task. Depending on the characteristics of the source material, there are several manufacturing options. Wooden structures are stable and quite light. To work, you will need the most affordable materials and tools: several boards, nails, a hammer, a saw. Metal goats are very durable, therefore they are able to withstand heavy loads, but the process of their manufacture is more laborious, it is necessary optional equipment and materials such as welding machine, drill, grinder, metal profile.

General requirements for the manufacture of structures

A device for sawing firewood should be light, comfortable, durable. One of the prerequisites for productive use is to fit your height, so when working with a chainsaw for greater comfort and productivity, choose the correct angle of inclination of the supports. Since the goats for sawing are classified as machine tools, then its manufacture should be approached thoroughly: sketch or draw up a drawing, taking into account the smallest details, prepare the necessary materials. Also, when assembling equipment, the following parameters must be taken into account:

  • man's height;
  • the dimensions of the tool itself;
  • dimensions of the processed wood.

The optimal height is 90-110 centimeters, in this case you do not have to squat or tilt the body strongly. When planning to work with a two-handed saw, they must provide an emphasis for the free hand, for which they increase the length of the legs or put an additional line, “stags”.

When working with a chainsaw, both hands are occupied and there is a danger of clamping the chain or bar, therefore, for safety reasons, increase the maximum reach of the log from the support mechanism!

Goats for sawing firewood are made from:

  • Standard wooden beam. They are easy to assemble by hand.
  • Round timber - the most affordable, cheap, practical material.
  • metal profile. The assembled structure is very reliable, stable.
  • Available scrap metal.

Features of the manufacture of wooden goats

To work with a one-handed or two-handed saw, a standard-sized machine made of wooden beams is suitable. It is small, light and strong at the same time. To assemble, you need to do the following operations:

  • Prepare a beam 10x10 cm and a length of 1-1.2 m - for the crossbars, legs. The dimensions of the finished product will be enough to cut medium-sized firewood.
  • Proceed to the manufacture and assembly of legs in the amount of 4 pieces. To give greater strength to the connection, cuts are made in each pair of legs. Their depth is maintained by at least 1/3 of the thickness of the workpiece, but not more than 1/2. Trying to get a tighter connection, cuts are made narrower than the width of the workpiece.
  • The timber inserted into the prepared grooves is planted in place using a hammer. Their attachment to each other, like all elements, is carried out on wood screws 4.5x100 mm or with nails.
  • To prevent lateral displacement of the legs, two wide boards and bars are additionally attached to them horizontally or at an angle.
  • If necessary, install "stags", their presence will allow sawing short branches, boards.
  • The finished device is optionally treated with wood stain, the surfaces are coated with a special protective paint or varnish.

Similarly, goats can be made from any material at hand, such as boards, round timber. To make goats, you will need the most affordable tool:

  • Ordinary wood saw.
  • Construction corner, but you can do without it.
  • An ordinary pencil with a graphite rod for marking or chalk.
  • Yardstick.
  • Chisel, hammer, screwdriver, screwdriver.
  • Paint brush 4-5 cm, varnish or paint.
  • A sufficient number of screws, nails.

Metal goats for cutting firewood

Metal products are compact in size, have a long working life, and are highly reliable. Small specimens are made from such material, designed for processing small volumes of wood, and larger machines for large-scale production. The cost of a home-made model using scrap metal waste is low. To make them at home, you need to prepare the following materials, tools:

  • profile corner 50x50 mm, a pipe of similar characteristics;
  • grinder, hacksaw for metal;
  • measuring tape;
  • connecting bolts, welding machine.

A sketch is drawn up listing the main elements and the obligatory markup of each of them. The design of the upcoming product may be different, but in order to give greater durability, two profile elements are additionally installed at an angle or a cross beam of the base. For example, from a piece of pipe. In the second case, it is necessary to protect the teeth of the saw from contact with the beam, therefore, at the final stage of assembly, a piece of timber is fixed on top.

Attachment points are marked with welding or bolts. If a bolted connection is provided, then the location of the holes is additionally indicated. The system assembled by welding is one-piece, collapsible system is more mobile.

All parts are cut according to the intended dimensions by welding or a grinder. To prevent slipping, turning the logs while sawing, on the extreme legs with inside the serrated edge is prepared. For the safety of further work, the cut points are processed, removing scale, burrs, and other defects from each edge. The product is being assembled. Non-separable structures for rust protection are treated with an anti-corrosion compound.

Collapsible elements are first coated with an anti-corrosion compound, assembly is carried out only after it dries!

From metal, you can build a mobile version of folding goats. The simpler the design, the less often the device breaks down, so this type of machine is made as simple as possible. When folded, it takes up little space, is convenient for storage, transportation, but the cost of manufacturing and assembly is more.

The main difference is the mobility of the X-shaped support, it can be folded like scissors. The bolts are not fully clamped to prevent their spontaneous loosening, an additional lock nut is installed. Installing a limiter helps to fix the supports in the desired position. It can be a metal chain attached to one leg of the support, and a hook is made on the other to hook it.

Chainsaw for sawing wood with a chainsaw

Affordable price, ease of operation, high performance of the chainsaw, which is many times higher than the productivity of traditional methods using conventional saws, have made it a popular tool for cutting firewood. But sawing a log on a classic X-type rack often ends with a chain clamp. To avoid jamming during operation, the log has to be turned with the cut down.

A safer option is to indent with sagging the cut end, which is securely clamped with a toothed grip, a steel chain. The advantages of using this type of product are obvious:

  • there is no need to turn the log every time;
  • the possibility of clamping the cutting chain, canvas is excluded;
  • both hands are available to control the chainsaw;
  • the machine is held in place with one foot placed on a support;
  • high performance.

The disadvantages include the high cost, therefore, if there are opportunities and required material it is advisable to make a product of this type with your own hands.

For private sawmills, large farms that are engaged in the harvesting, processing of waste from scaffolding, scraps of boards, timber, slats, universal sawing goats are produced. After laying the wood in a dense pile, it is fixed with a special device, which eliminates the possibility of sprawl, unexpected rebound during the cut.

Regardless of the material chosen and the type of device being manufactured, it can be assembled on its own, while it will do its job well - facilitating the sawing process and increasing productivity.

There is no man in the world who has not had to saw a log in order to chop wood later. If this task is one-time, then it is not difficult to cope with it. But if a person has to saw wood with a certain regularity, it is recommended to purchase or make your own goats for sawing firewood - a device that can facilitate the process and greatly simplify the task.

Functions of goats

Sawing goats are an important tool in every household, especially in preparation for the heating season. With their help, owners can quickly and easily cut thick logs and boards.

The advantage of this product is that its craftsmen can not buy, but make it with their own hands. This will require the following materials and fixtures:

  • quality timber;
  • nails;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • carpentry tools.

If a person knows how to handle a hammer, it will take no more than 2-3 hours to make goats, and the product will last at least 5-7 years.

Professionals prefer to use metal goats, such a product is reliable and durable. But it is difficult to build them yourself, and it will take much more effort and resources to manufacture them.

Homemade goats for manual sawing

It is not difficult to make goats for cutting wood products, but before proceeding with active actions, the master needs to consider what kind of design it will be.

When completing the drawing, it is necessary to decide what size the product should have and deal with the angle of inclination of the support, the height of the horns also plays a crucial role. Experts warn that in order to work with goats for sawing it was convenient, the following points should be taken into account in their manufacture:

  • Man's height.
  • What type of wood will be most often sawn.
  • What type of tool will be used for sawing - a regular saw or a chainsaw.

The height of the log affects how long it takes a person to completely cut it. As practice shows, the optimal height for support is from 90 to 110 cm, depending on the height of the person.

When all dimensions are calculated, you need to prepare in advance all the materials required during work:

  • Beam for the manufacture of the base. It is best to take a beam, the cross section of which will be 100 × 100 mm, and the optimal length is 1.1 meters.
  • The legs will require bars with a cross section of 50 × 50 mm, but a length of 360 mm. The required quantity is 2 pieces.
  • For amplifiers under your feet, you will need a beam with an inch section, length - 1.3 meters.

It will be necessary to stock up on a large number of self-tapping screws and a tool for treating wood from decay. To make goats with your own hands, you will need the following tools:

  • building corner and tape measure;
  • hacksaw;
  • pencil;
  • a hammer;
  • several different chisels;
  • screwdrivers.

Work schedule

The beam for making the base must be marked for 12 cuts - 6 pieces on each side, their depth should be about 2.5 cm, they will act as grooves for horns with legs.

After that, the cuts are knocked out with the help of a chisel, sawn bars are inserted into the formed grooves, in this place everything is fixed with self-tapping screws.

On bars with an inch section, places for attaching amplifiers are marked, they will prevent the legs from divergence. With the help of a hacksaw, excess segments are sawn off, the length of the legs is selected by the master. When the wood goats are ready, they need to be stained and dried, after which the device is ready for use.

Standard goats are quite large in size and weight, which does not always allow them to be transported. That is why many people prefer to buy or build a mobile unit that can be easily transported.

But it is immediately worth considering that the manufacture of such a design will take more time. All they need is:

  • 4 wooden bars of medium diameter;
  • metal pipe 1.5 meters long;
  • strong rope or cable;
  • durable drill bit for wood.

The assembly of the structure always begins with the bars. On them you need to outline the place of the cut, where the legs will then be installed. After drilling the planks, the base is inserted into them, then the legs are installed in place. Finally, a limiter for the racks is made to prevent deformation of the legs.

Goats for working with a chainsaw

Cutting firewood with a chainsaw is easier and more convenient if the log is thick and wet. But you need to understand that the goats for sawing with a chainsaw must be strong and durable.

Professionals advise using a different design for their manufacture. Since sawing logs with this powerful tool requires a lot of space - one end of the log will always be hanging, the specialist will have to think in advance exactly where the goats will be located.

Some people adapt to using standard sawhorses when sawing logs with a chainsaw, but it will be extremely inconvenient to perform the steps, and the chainsaw will certainly jam when the log is almost completely sawn.

It must be borne in mind that their assembly will require not only logs and tools, but also a special mount, it will prevent the log from being outweighed at one end. In the absence of certain knowledge, it is easier for the owner to simply purchase ready-made goats in a hardware store, saving time and ensuring safety.

Features and benefits of goats for a chainsaw

Professional goats for chainsaw work have the following advantages:

  • With the help of such equipment, owners can cut firewood alone, since they do not have to move the log during work.
  • The tool chain is guaranteed not to pinch.
  • The master will be able to independently adjust the length of the blocks on which the log is sawn.
  • Sawn logs will roll in the opposite direction from the sawyer.
  • Most often, mobile goats are produced for working with a chainsaw, they are very easy to fold and they take up very little space when folded.

If a person does not have the opportunity to purchase a finished product, he needs to try to make it on his own. The method using a heavy base and attaching a pair of horns to fix the log has proven itself very well.

As a basis, many men use a wheel from a car - it metal carcass, but then make it heavier with the help of auxiliary materials. This design is not entirely productive, but it is quite convenient to work with it.

Features of storage and principles of operation of goats

If you make goats, taking into account all the recommendations and strictly following the algorithm of actions, the design will turn out to be strong and will last more than one season. But it must be borne in mind that the goats will have a large load. To prolong their service life, it is recommended to store the device properly.

Experts assure that the wood does not start to rot earlier, the goats must not only be treated with a special compound, but also stored in a dry room at a temperature above 15 degrees. Only in this case negative impact moisture and air will not lead to the destruction of the material.

It is very important to follow the rules of harvesting, the goats should not be overloaded with too heavy and massive logs, as they may simply not withstand the excessive load and fall apart.

Goats for sawing - an indispensable device, it is necessary in every private house. If you don’t want to buy them, then the craftsmen can easily build a tool with their own hands, especially since this does not require expensive materials and tools.

But experts warn that during manufacturing, you must strictly follow the algorithm of actions and follow safety rules, otherwise it is easy to injure yourself.

Another recommendation - before you start sawing firewood, you need to check whether the goats are really strong and reliable. This rule especially applies to the performance of work with a chainsaw, the engine power of such equipment can provoke damage to goats or a person.

Video: Do-it-yourself goats for sawing firewood

Perhaps, any owner of a house with a stove, fireplace or bath at least once engaged in cutting firewood. When camping or fishing, sawing or chopping trees is easy, as little firewood is required. It is much more difficult to harvest firewood regularly, in reserve. To facilitate the sawing process, goats have been used for sawing firewood for many centuries.

The design has a very simple device, so it will not be difficult to make it even for a beginner. To make cutting firewood not only fast, but also easy, you need to choose the right goats.

Design for manual sawing

For many centuries, goats practically did not change. The craftsmen only adjusted the width and height of the product to their own height and the size of the logs. Previously, wood was sawn in pairs using a two-handed saw.

The process of sawing when working together was controlled by a free hand. On both sides, the workers held the ends of the log, guiding it or pressing it for more convenient work. When sawing large trunks, they were finished a little deeper than the middle and scrolled to the other side. With such a cut, the saw cut could have an uneven edge, which burdened the splitting.

Traditional firewood goats were made from cruciform racks. They were located at a distance equal to the double firebox of the stove for which firewood was sawn.

Such products can still be found in everyday life, but they still have undergone some changes. They added another cross, which allows you to clamp firewood. On such goats you can work with one-handed saws.

Also on modern market you can meet metal goats. They are equipped with cloves for strong fixation of wood. Metal devices have screw stops, which also make sawing easier by holding the log in the sawhorses.

It is much easier to procure fuel on such goats. If you store firewood yourself, then such a device is indispensable in your household.

Trestle for chainsaw

If you need to store a large amount of fuel, it is best to work with an electric or gasoline saw. Such tools not only facilitate, but also speed up the work at times. In addition, they reduce physical and time costs.

Cutting firewood with a chainsaw on ordinary, traditional goats will not work, as the tool can break if the tire gets stuck in the cut. If you cut off pieces of logs that go beyond the crosses of the structure, then the cut will be long and irrational. That is why special goats for sawing firewood with a chainsaw have been developed for harvesting with an electric tool. The simplest design for cutting wood with a chainsaw consists of a heavy base and stable legs. The tree trunk is cut down in places where it goes beyond the borders of the goat. You can hold the log in such an installation with your foot.

The speed of work on such a design is not very high, but it is quite suitable for cutting medium batches.

Chain saw stand

If you are harvesting thin logs, then it is better to build a log rack. The design consists of 4 legs or pillars welded or attached to the base. For it, you can use a welded frame or a heavy metal plate. The device is convenient only for working with small trunks; you cannot cut large logs on it. The size of the goat is chosen based on the size of the furnace and the length of the supplied logs. The product can be made in almost any size.

Note! To facilitate the operation of frame goats, fasten the racks not by welding, but by bolting. This will allow you to quickly disassemble the structure for the removal of firewood.

The device has the only drawback - an armful of logs in it cannot be finished to the end, otherwise the saw will rest on the ground. To eliminate this problem, you can install transverse supports, in which a gap is formed between the woodpile and the goat stand. However, this type of device cannot be quickly dismantled, which reduces its functionality.

Assembly of traditional goat

To make a classic design for sawing firewood with your own hands, you will need one of the following materials:

The product is very simple, but to make it functional, you need to follow certain recommendations. One of which is drawing up a diagram or drawing that will facilitate assembly. On the drawing, the size and height of the structure should be noted. This will allow you to properly assemble the goats and calculate the amount of material needed.

It is very important in the work to accurately select the angle of the supports. The correct slope will make the structure stable, and the cut simple. If you do not know how to make goats with your own hands, use the instructions from professionals.

In the manufacture of goats, it is necessary to choose their height and length correctly. These dimensions are affected by:

  • the height of the worker who will cut the wood;
  • saw size;
  • dimensions of the trunks that will go into the workpiece.

Properly selected parameters will allow you to assemble the goats quickly and correctly. The optimal height of the structure is 90-100 cm. At this height, the worker will not strain his back with constant tilts, and his hands will be horizontal to the working surface.

Goats for work with a hand saw

Most often, a conventional saw is used for harvesting wood, this allows you to saw small chocks. Goats for such purposes can have standard dimensions. To assemble this design, you will need the following materials:

The material will be required for homeowners who do not have building materials on the site. Those who have leftover pieces of timber or pipes from other works can use them in the assembly of the goat.

To create a design, you will need the following set of tools:

  • hacksaw for sawing timber;
  • corner for aligning parts of the structure;
  • pencil for marking;
  • hammer or screwdriver;
  • roulette;
  • finish coat and brush.

When the material is purchased, assembly can begin. The goat frame is made starting with wood processing. To do this, using a tape measure and a pencil, mark the places of the cut. They need to be done 6 on each side. All the grooves for connecting the legs and crosses will turn out to be 12. With a beam section of 100 mm, the depth of the groove is made 25 mm, this is enough for a strong fastening. When cutting the grooves, make sure that they are a couple of millimeters smaller than the legs. After marking and making grooves, all parts are assembled into a single structure.

After assembly, fastener amplifiers are installed, they increase the strength of the structure and make work safer. To do this, saw off the bottom of each leg so that there is enough space for installing a new mount. After assembling the product, it is treated with a protective compound. To do this, use varnish or stain. When the structure is dry, it can be used.

metal goats

A metal structure is often called a machine tool, because of its stability. In addition to stability, such goats are very durable. If you want to assemble such a product yourself, prepare the following materials and tools in advance:

Before assembly, an exact diagram or drawing of a goat is made. After determining the dimensions of the structure, the beams for the base are marked out and sawn. On them, it is worthwhile to pre-mark the points of welding or the connection of the legs and "horns".

Note! If you plan to take goats with you on a hike or move them from place to place in the future, use a bolted connection. A structure assembled using such fasteners will be more mobile.

For the construction of a conventional, stationary machine tool, welding is used. Parts of the structure are welded together, starting with the legs. It is better to enlist the help of a partner in such work. After welding, a wooden plank is attached to the longitudinal beam, it will protect the metal from the saw.

With self-assembly, you can get a device that suits you in all respects. Do not be afraid to add your edits to the design, this will make the work even more efficient.

Sawing a large amount of firewood is a laborious task. Anyone who has done this at least once knows for sure that doing it on the ground or in a semi-hanging position is not very convenient. To be frank, after a few bars, such an activity begins to terribly annoy. Nevertheless, there are goats for sawing firewood that can greatly simplify the task and make the work performed less laborious and faster.

Everything ingenious is simple

The goat itself is a fairly simple design, and even a person who has never done such things can do it. Moreover, there are currently several manufacturing options, each of which is suitable for certain cases. Goats can be made of wood or metal. In the first case, the design is very light, and its strength is limited. At the same time, nothing is needed to create it, except for boards, nails, self-tapping screws and a few more simple tools. A metal goat is much stronger and more durable, but it takes more effort and resources to make it. In any case, both the first and the second option take place.

Materials and tools

Before proceeding with the work, it is necessary to acquire materials and tools. First, let's look at how to create a wooden goat. To do this, you need a beam with a section of 100x100 and a length of 110 centimeters under the base. For the "horns" and "legs" they take a bar with a section of 50x50, 36 and 110 centimeters long, respectively. It is also desirable to take care of the amplifiers "legs", which will give stability. To do this, you need an inch board. It is advisable to take two, each - 130 cm.

As for the tool, it will need a little, and everyone can find it. To perform the work, you need a hammer, a chisel, and a hacksaw. You will have to buy 25-35 self-tapping screws, unless, of course, you have them. In addition to all this, it is advisable to have a construction corner with a pencil with you, which will allow you to complete the work more accurately. You can not do without a screwdriver, although a screwdriver is preferable.

General provisions

A wooden goat for firewood should be light, comfortable and durable. It is extremely important to understand here that the design must be adjusted to fit your height. But let's take a closer look at this issue and find out how to make goats for sawing firewood with your own hands. A drawing in this case, or at least a sketch, will be what will help you complete all the work more accurately and quickly.

The cutting height in most cases should not exceed 110 centimeters and be less than 90 cm. So a person does not need to squat or tilt the body too much. If you plan to use a two-handed saw, then you need to take care of the rest of your free hand. In this case, an additional cut timber is placed on the machine, which acts as a stop. But if you are going to work with a chainsaw, then the emphasis will be meaningless, due to the employment of both hands. When working with gasoline or power tools, it is much more important to take care of the maximum log outreach from the goat. So the workpiece will not be clamped, which is almost inevitable when sawing between the goat racks.

Do-it-yourself goats for sawing firewood

The assembly of the machine must be carried out from the legs. Although there are many options, this one is considered the most optimal and simple. In the bars of the cross, where the place of the future connection is located, grooves are made for a stronger fit. Further, the racks are superimposed on each other and fastened with self-tapping screws. The tie bar must also have several grooves, in the future it must be properly nailed to the structure. Cuts need to be knocked out with a chisel and a hammer. Do not forget also that the grooves should be a few millimeters narrower than the beam inserted into them. This will create an interference connection that will be strong enough and reliable.

On the inch bars, markings are made, in the places of which there will be amplifiers. They are needed to ensure the stability of the legs. In principle, do-it-yourself goats for sawing firewood are made quite quickly, but it is extremely important to make all connections of high quality, so do not spare self-tapping screws.

For sawing with a two-handed saw

It is worth noting that the design of such a machine will differ, albeit slightly, but all changes are simply necessary. For example, the use of narrow goats is unacceptable here, since a variable force during the execution of work will lead to overturning. It makes sense to make X-shaped racks from a thick and durable timber with a section of 100 mm. In addition, the screed is recommended to be made of metal. This approach will allow you to secure the goats as much as possible so that they do not loosen during work. The drawing of goats for sawing firewood with a two-handed saw implies a broadening of the lower part of the support. It should be 100-150 mm more than the distance from the surface to the top of the beam. If you used a wooden one, otherwise strengthen the structure additionally with a thin beam. Otherwise, the dimensions remain the same, and only the lower part of the support is subject to changes. If the last element is made in the standard version, then emphasis is placed on the free hand.

Goats for sawing firewood with a chainsaw

A chainsaw is a relatively inexpensive, but at the same time, an effective automatic tool for sawing wood. At first there were no goats made specifically for this kind of equipment, but today they are. The classic X-shaped design is bad because there is a high probability of chain jamming during the cut. It is for this reason that goats that allow free protrusion of the wood are very popular. Most often, metal structures are used that will improve. Modernization consists in the fact that a toothed clamp is installed on one of the ends, which allows you to tightly fix the workpiece. Currently, there are universal devices on sale that have a high-quality clamp, and also completely eliminate ricochet during work. True, the price of such machines starts at 8,000 rubles. That is why it makes sense to engage in the manufacture of such

Metal goat: features and benefits

The main advantages of metal goats are their resource. This is a more durable and strong product that will surely serve you well. In this case, you will need a metal profile with a section of 50x50 mm, as well as a grinder and bolts or a welding machine. In this case, it is desirable to have a pre-prepared drawing and a sketch with dimensions applied. The base beam is cut to size, the joints are marked and the steel elements of the machine are cut. In this case, you can choose any method of connection: both bolted and welded. The latter option is more durable, but you will have to work harder than in the first case. Currently, metal goats for sawing firewood are found in multiple versions. You can find machines of various heights, widths, strengths, etc.

Conclusion

Here we have figured out in general terms in how to make various goats for sawing firewood. Sizes must be selected depending on your height. In any case, work should be comfortable. You can always ennoble the goats. This is usually achieved by using a metal profile instead of a wooden beam for the legs, using narrow boards instead of a log. That, in principle, is all on this topic. Making machine tools with your own hands is good because practically no financial investments are required. In any case, the costs will be incomparable with the market prices for finished goats. In addition, you will gain precious experience that you can use in the future. But remember that at all stages of creating a structure, you need to ensure its strength and reliability.

When it is required to prepare several cubic meters of firewood, sawing is more convenient to do with the help of a goat. Classic goats securely clamp the log, are compact, and it is very convenient to work on them. It is not at all necessary to purchase ready-made structures; you can make goats for cutting firewood with your own hands.

Such a device can be made by hand

Types of sawing devices

As practice shows, any person is capable of making goats for sawing firewood. Goats can be made of wood or metal. Wooden crafts they turn out to be quite light and have not too high strength, however, it is these goats that are most often made. To do this, it is enough to have boards, nails, screws and a couple more tools. Each owner has such a set. Metal devices are more durable and strong, but manufacturing requires more effort, materials and tools, including a drill, a welding machine and a metal profile.

Gathering goats for sawing firewood is not particularly difficult, and the zealous owner almost always has the materials. It is worth starting work with the construction of a drawing of the future product. The height of the product must be made comfortable for the person which will work on it. The design is selected taking into account what type of saw will be used (two-handed or chainsaw).

In this video, you will learn how to make a goat:

Necessary materials

The attractiveness of this design is its versatility and the ability to perform various works. The ability to fold the goats simplifies their transportation and storage. But the most important thing is that after work the device can be folded and put away until the next time. This design is very mobile and allows the use of goats both on your site and for preparing firewood on a plot in the forest. After work, they can be stored in dry room. They will not take up much space and will not rot and decay in the open.

You can make folding goats for sawing firewood with your own hands from improvised materials. You will need to prepare:

  • a beam under the base about a meter high and with a section of 5 X 5 cm;
  • timber for the manufacture of "legs" and "horns" with a section of 5 X 5 cm and the length required according to the sketch (usually 40 cm and 110 cm);
  • for structural stability, two inch boards, each 110-130 cm long.

Kit necessary tools- hammer, chisel and hacksaw. You also need to prepare self-tapping screws, a building corner and a screwdriver. The ease of manufacture is due to the simplicity of the design.

For use with a two-handed saw

The main requirement for the design is that it must be stable and durable. The optimal height for the convenience of work is from 90 to 110 cm. It is better to make the legs from a bar with a side of at least 50 mm. This will increase the stability of the structure, because two people are working with the saw, and the direction of the sawyers' efforts alternately changes. To make goats for firewood with your own hands, you should prepare:

  • an even and well-dried log for the base of the structure - a beam section of 100 X 100 mm, a length of 1100 mm;
  • "legs" goat - four beams;
  • goat "horns" - two beams;
  • strapping "legs" - two beams.

The optimal section of the beam for work is 50 X 50 mm. The length of the beam for the "legs" and strapping is 1000−1100 mm. "Horns" must be made 350 mm long. Additionally, you will need self-tapping screws and wood impregnation "Bioprotection". The assembly of the structure is carried out according to the available drawings.

Assembly sequence:

  • make cuts on the beam for the base (two for each groove) with a depth of 25 mm;
  • select the grooves in the cuts with a chisel and a hammer;
  • vnatyag install all four beams in the grooves;
  • fasten with self-tapping screws and evenly saw off each beam. The fabricated structure should be stable and firmly on the ground;
  • make a leg harness;
  • fix the transverse reinforcements with self-tapping screws.

The goats are ready for work, it remains only to treat them with a bioprotective agent.

We follow every step of the assembly

Metal structures

The goats made of metal are compact in size, have a long working life and are reliable in operation. They are usually used for cutting small amounts of firewood. The cost of a metal product will not be high if scrap metal is used for work. To make a metal device yourself, you will need:

  • profile corner and pipe with a diameter of 50 mm;
  • grinder and hacksaw;
  • tape measure and a piece of chalk;
  • bolts and welding machine.

Work must begin with the preparation of a sketch, which indicates all the structural elements of the future product. You can choose any design for the goat, most importantly, it must be stable. For stability, you need to additionally install a pair of profile elements at an angle. The profile can be replaced by a crossbeam using, for example, a pipe section. If a cross beam is selected, then at the end of the assembly, a piece of timber is installed on top - it will protect the saw teeth from contact with the pipe.

For the manufacture of a metal structure, you need 4 tools

Before starting work, it is necessary to mark the places of fastening by welding or bolts. For bolts, mark the locations for the holes. Then cut off the structural parts indicated in the sketch using welding or a grinder. On the extreme "legs" of the goat, notches are made on the inside. The serrated edge will prevent the log from sliding and turning over.

Cut points must be processed by cutting off burrs, scale and other defects on the edges. This will protect the hands of the sawyer during work. The product is assembled according to the selected design. If the goats are assembled by welding, then the resulting structure will be one-piece. The collapsible and mobile model is assembled with bolts. Prior to assembly, all metal structural elements must be treated with an anti-corrosion compound. You can start assembling after it is completely dry.

If desired, folding goats can also be made of metal. This design is very convenient for its mobility. It is easy to transport, it is practical, when folded it takes up little space. It is worth noting that the cost of production and time will be more.

Folding goats can be folded like scissors. In this case, the bolts do not need to be tightened completely. In order to prevent spontaneous loosening of the bolts, an additional lock nut is installed. To fix the supports, a limiter is used - this, for example, can be a metal chain. It must be fixed on the leg of the support and make a hook for hooking on the other leg.

Goats for sawing with a chainsaw

Working with a chainsaw greatly speeds up the process of harvesting fuel. The productivity of a chainsaw is significantly higher than that of a conventional saw. But when using classic goats, when sawing with a chainsaw, chain clamping often occurs. It can be eliminated only by turning the log with the cut down in time. This is difficult, and creates additional inconvenience in the work.

For such work, you can make goats according to the drawings for sawing firewood with a chainsaw with your own hands. This device has a mechanism that prevents the chainsaw chain from jamming. Convenience and advantage of the device:

  • no more need to turn the log;
  • chain clamping is completely eliminated;
  • the sawyer has both hands free to control the chainsaw;
  • the machine can be held in place with one foot;
  • performance increases dramatically.

If you have the necessary materials and capabilities at hand, then you should make such a product with your own hands. The benefit of its use is obvious. Making a goat with your own hands, regardless of the material chosen, will facilitate the sawing process, increase its productivity and save time.
