The lotus flower is not wetted by water, just as the spirit is not stained by matter, therefore the lotus personifies eternal life, the immortal nature of man, spiritual unfoldment.
In ancient Egypt, creation, birth and the Sun as the source of life were associated with the image of the lotus. This great flower blossomed, rising from the depths of the primary waters, and carried out on its petals the god of the Sun.
