Pepper seeds germinate difficult, so they need to be stimulated. To do this, dip the seeds in a rag in a thermos with hot water (53 degrees) for 15 minutes, then take it out with a damp cloth and put it in the freezer of the refrigerator for a day, then immediately sow. Instead, the seeds can be soaked for half an hour in a solution of "Zircon", "Energen" or "Epin-extra" (4 drops per 0.% glass of water). You can also use Novosil or Silk.

When the first shoots appear, transplant the pepper seedlings into paper cups, and as soon as you see the third true leaf, into a peat pot with fertile soil. It is better to water pepper seedlings with warm water at room temperature or warm it up a little, ideally water it with melt water. You need to water regularly, pepper does not tolerate drying out of the soil. Sometimes you can spray seedlings.

Since peppers do not tolerate picking, it is believed that sucking hairs break off easily and take a long time to recover (but this is a very controversial issue, many gardeners believe that picking is necessary for growing peppers), it is better to sow peppers for seedlings immediately in 0.5 liter containers three seeds in each cup, at a distance of 2 - 3 cm from each other.

Pepper loves light and warmth very much. The optimum temperature for the growth and development of seedlings is 21-28 ° C, at 13 ° C it stops growing. Place the seedlings closer to the window, and on sunny days you can take them out to the glazed balcony.

Then you need to transplant the plants into a modern greenhouse or polycarbonate greenhouse, equipped with LED lighting and an automatic watering system. If you plant pepper seeds immediately in open ground, then if you live in the wrong zone where summer begins in March, then the pepper will not have time to ripen. Peppers are not buried in the future, so they must be immediately sown to a depth of about 3 - 4 cm. So that seedlings do not appear without dropping the shell from the seed, the soil must be moistened before planting, but not to dirt, but quite moderately. Then it is compacted with a tablespoon and the seeds are laid out on the surface. After that, sprinkle dry soil on top to a height of 3 - 4 cm, and again compact with a spoon. Place the cups in plastic bags and place in a warm place. Peppers will sprout in about a week if the soil temperature is maintained at 28 - 30 degrees, but not higher than 40 degrees, otherwise they will die. According to the lunar calendar, in 2016, the optimal time when planting pepper for seedlings is favorable on the following days:

More cons of planting pepper seeds directly into the ground:

It's time - no need to delay - they have a long growing season, and therefore the result is late ...

If it is planned to plant seedlings of these crops in glazed greenhouses, then they sow a little earlier, if in a film greenhouse, then later. The main thing is that by the time of planting, the seedlings should be 70-80 days old.

Eggplants and peppers are possible at the end of February, or even now, they sprout for a long time. And tomatoes in the very first days of March.

Cauliflower and broccoli are sown along with early white cabbage.

Varieties of the sea, depends on your preferences. I planted tall "Blagovest", "Verlioka". I planted "Budenovka" for my mother - an old variety, unpretentious, pleased with the yield, although it is usually low. I didn't like Agatha. "Katya" somehow died after the pick. Of the undersized, I really like "Pink Leader", "Explosion". But last year, the neighbor's seeds helped a lot, simple, not hybrids - medium and high yields.

In February, tomatoes, peppers and eggplants, when growing seedlings at home, must be additionally highlighted. If this is not possible, then it is better to sow later.

It is convenient to use a mini-greenhouse for growing pepper seedlings in the apartment. There are different varieties, but the most convenient is a rack with a PVC film cover. I begin to "gut" a box of seeds from the end of January to the beginning of March, we begin to plant in the ground in late April - early May. This year, a lot of small seeds turned out that need to be planted on / under the snow, but we don’t have it - it all melted, I managed to pick up a bag and put it in the freezer - it’s not enough. Will have to peat tablets probably. Eggplant acquired 4 varieties - Banana (Sedek, ultra-early, 100-105 days), Farama F1 (France, very early, 70-80 days) - these are blue; Emerald F1 (Sedek, early ripe, 105-110 days) - green and Taste of mushrooms (Sedek, mid-ripening, 95-105 days) - white. Somehow the manufacturer outlined the terms in a strange way, but - as it is, the main thing is to grow. For the last 2 years I have been growing the Valentina variety (I liked it) and the Epic variety (but this one was not impressive), but before that it seems that they planted Diamond, but I don’t remember exactly, they bought seedlings on the market, the eggplants were good

To get an early and large harvest, it is necessary to observe the timing of sowing seeds. Eggplant is quite a heat-loving crop, so the easiest way to grow it is through seedlings.

Preparing seeds for planting.

  1. Germination test. Take 10 seeds and place them in cloth bags in warm water for 24 hours. Then the bags are placed on a plate and put in a warm place for 4-5 days, while constantly keeping the bags moist. If 5 out of 10 seeds hatch, the seeds are suitable for sowing.
  2. Treatment. The seeds are dipped in a strong solution of potassium permanganate for 20-30 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly with water.
  3. Top dressing. In 1 liter of water, dilute 1 tsp. nitrophoska or wood ash. Seeds are placed in this warm solution for 24 hours.
  4. Germination. Ready seeds are placed for 2 - 3 days on a saucer until they hatch.

How to sow eggplant seedlings

Seeds for seedlings are planted 60 days before planting in a permanent place. In the suburbs, this is mid-February - early March. The best harvest of fruits is harvested if, by the time of planting, the seedlings reach 70-80 days of age. Eggplant seeds should be sown only in moderately moist soil. In waterlogged soil, there will not be enough oxygen, and the sprouts that appear in the soil will die. Sowing in boxes should be done with germinated seeds in rows at a distance of 10 cm, to a depth of 0.5 cm. After sowing, the seeds are sprinkled with a layer of 1-2 cm of loose soil mixture. Seeds germinate in 12-15 days at a day and night temperature not lower than +23 degrees.

When to plant eggplant seedlings.

The optimal time to sow eggplants is in February and March with the Waxing Moon. The optimal planting of eggplant for seedlings in 2016 and transplanting eggplant seedlings into a greenhouse or open ground will best occur on the following days:

  • January 17, 30;
  • February 13, 14, 15;
  • on March 13;
  • in April - 8;
  • in May - 11, 17, 25.

Keep in mind that eggplants have a longer growing season, even when they are early. Therefore, it is better if you sow eggplant seedlings earlier than peppers and tomatoes.

To understand when you need to plant eggplant in order to get a harvest in June, we make a simple calculation. In the earliest ripening varieties, the vegetative period of eggplant development is 100 days to technical ripeness and 130 days to physical ripeness, in late varieties it is 130 and 180 days, respectively. Based on these data, we believe that if we want to get a harvest in June, then we need to plant eggplant for seedlings in early February, late January.

Picking eggplant seedlings.

With the advent of shoots, the box is placed on a bright windowsill with a temperature of 14-16 degrees for 6-7 days so that the shoots do not stretch out and give strong roots. Picking seedlings is carried out after the appearance of 2 - 3 true leaves. Two to three hours before picking, seedlings are watered. Planted in peat pots or other container, deepening the plant to cotyledon leaves.

Care and planting eggplant in the greenhouse.

Eggplants in the seedling period consume a lot of water. As the seedlings develop, it is necessary to feed them with mineral fertilizers. For the first time, 10-15 days after picking, 5 g of urea and 30 g of superphosphate are added per 10 liters of water. Good seedlings should be strong, 16-25 cm high, have 8-9 leaves and small buds. Seedlings are planted in country greenhouses from May 10. Before digging, seedlings are watered. In the dug hole, you can add:

  • 1 - 2 cups of humus,
  • 1 tsp superphosphate,
  • 1/2 cup wood sol.

Growing eggplant from central Russia is hard. This is a thermophilic plant. Therefore, the answer to the question of how to grow eggplant is only in or under a film for greenhouses. For growing eggplants in the open field, you need to use special agricultural technology. Firstly, in order to get a good harvest of eggplant, you need to use a special film that transmits sunlight, converts ultraviolet radiation into infrared light. This light plays a more important role in plant development. Under this, you can get a crop at an earlier date, the fruits are larger, intensely colored, juicy and more tender. Secondly, choose early eggplant varieties for planting (read recommendations for selecting eggplant varieties)

How to grow eggplant in the open field (in the garden)

It will be good if you prepare the following soil mixture for growing eggplant:

  • 1 part of sod land,
  • 2 parts humus,
  • 1 part washed sand.

Add 2 cups of ash and 60 g of superphosphate to a bucket of this mixture. If you use land from your site when planting, it must be spilled with hot water and steamed for 15 to 20 minutes.

Caring for eggplants After planting eggplants, it is necessary to make shallow loosening of the soil, raking the soil to the plants. Watering is best done in the morning, with water heated to 28 - 30 degrees. To form a compact shrub with well-developed lateral shoots, it is necessary to remove the top of the main stem when the plant reaches a height of 25 - 30 cm. Pinched plants will begin to branch quickly. Of all the shoots that have appeared, only 4 - 5 upper stepchildren are left, the rest are removed. On the left shoots, a crop will form. At the same time, 16-20 leaves are left on eggplant plants. You can not pinch, but remove the extra stepchildren. To obtain eggplant seeds, it is necessary to leave 2-3 fruits on the plant, the rest of the flowers and small fruitlets are removed so that seed fruits form faster.

Eggplants are the most capricious of the nightshade family, so high requirements are placed on their cultivation. The fate of the eggplant harvest depends on the age of the seedlings: 80-90-day-old seedlings give an excellent harvest, but 70-60-day ones are already worse. An interesting fact: Chinese vegetable growers plant 120-130-day-old seedlings in a permanent place and get a bountiful harvest.

All varieties of eggplant are sown on the same day, regardless of the ripening time. "Blue ones" are painfully transplanted, so it is best to grow them in peat cups or individual pots. For growing plants, it is recommended to use specialized soil mixtures with a complete set of nutrients. You can fill half a cup with garden soil, and add shop soil on top.

Eggplant seeds in a warm environment (+23-25˚C) germinate in a week and a half. To speed up the emergence of sprouts, you can germinate the seeds before planting. Immerse them in warm water (+40-50˚C) for 10-12 hours, then drain it, wrap the seeds in a damp cloth and keep at a temperature of +30-37˚C for a week until the sprouts hatch. Another important point in growing seedlings is that eggplants grow well with short daylight hours, no longer than 14 hours, such days occur in February and early March.

When to plant pepper seedlings

From whether you plan to plant peppers in open ground or in a greenhouse, the timing of sowing seeds for seedlings will depend. As a rule, seedlings are planted in the greenhouse in early May. Plants should be strong, 20-25 cm high, 60-70 days old. It is easy to calculate that it is desirable to sow seeds for seedlings from mid-February to mid-March. In open ground, under covering material, plants are planted at the end of May, respectively, the timing of planting seeds for seedlings is shifted by 15-20 days.

Seed preparation begins five days before sowing. Soak the seeds for a day in a growth stimulator or in a solution of microfertilizers. The processed seed is wrapped in a damp cloth and cellophane, placed under the freezer for 12 hours. Then for the same time they are placed in heat (+ 25-30˚C) - cold-heat alternate for four days. Peppers are sown, as well as eggplants, in separate pots.

Information for those who compare agricultural work with the lunar calendar. In 2017, good days to plant:

In March, favorable days 3, 4, 12, 14, 16 coincide for peppers and eggplants.

And eggplant is the most popular member of the nightshade family. Every self-respecting gardener considers it his duty to grow these vegetable crops, even if he lives in a zone of risky farming.

It is not so difficult if you know some of the nuances of their agricultural technology. Peppers and eggplants develop slowly, have a long growing season, and are particularly demanding on heat. In many Russian regions they are grown using the seedling method.

Sowing dates: when to sow?

To have a good harvest of eggplants, peppers, it is necessary for seedlings. Most summer residents of our country carry out this important work in the first half of February. This period is considered the optimal sowing time, seedlings will develop on window sills for up to 100 days.

The process of sowing seeds for seedlings.

If for some reason you delayed sowing seeds for seedlings, you should not do this in the third decade of March, as the plants simply will not have time to enter the fruiting phase. Of course, in this case we are not talking about where nightshade can bear fruit until the beginning of winter.

Some summer residents do not consider it necessary to sow peppers with eggplant so early. They are engaged in such work in March, artificially reducing the period of growing seedlings. In order for the plants to be fully ready for fruiting by the time they are planted in a permanent place, vegetable growers use intense illumination.

To do this, it is enough to place powerful electric lamps above the containers with seedlings. Thus, the period of its cultivation is reduced to 90 days. A similar method can be used in central Russia. As for the southern regions, here peppers and eggplants are sown for seedlings in mid-January, since they can be placed for permanent residence by the end of April - the beginning of May.

It has long been known that there are auspicious days for planting, they are determined using the lunar calendar. For sowing peppers and eggplants, the best days are those when the Moon in the 1st phase is in the sign of Scorpio, Libra, Aries, Sagittarius. The plants planted during these periods are resistant to diseases, bear fruit perfectly and for a long time, their fruits are not subject to rotting.

The quality of the future harvest depends on the correct determination of the correct planting time.

The exact dates for planting peppers and eggplant depend on the year. The most successful landing periods are:

  1. January 17-20.
  2. February 13-16.
  3. 11-13 and 16-17 March.

Advice! The specified dates require reconciliation with the lunar calendar, designed specifically for your region.

Landing Rules

soil preparation

Important! For full development, eggplants and peppers require a light substrate with low acidity.

Many gardeners make an unfortunate mistake when planting seeds in ready-made garden mix from the store. The fact is that such soils most often consist only of peat, and they are not suitable for capricious southern plants.

It is best to prepare the ground for them with your own hands.

Each experienced gardener has his own soil preparation recipe, the best of them are as follows:

  • Washed, sifted sand, humus, sod land in a ratio of 1:2:1. These components are thoroughly mixed, adding 1 tbsp per 1 kg of substrate. l. wood ash.
  • Sand, peat (compost), humus in a ratio of 1:2:2.
  • Leaf land, humus in a ratio of 2: 3.

Experienced gardeners prepare the soil for seedlings in the fall immediately after cleaning work. The prepared substrate is stored in a cool place, this allows you to save it from drying out. If you use sand, it must be washed well. This completes the substrate preparation procedure.

In the spring, it remains to sift the soil, and already in containers it is good to shed it with a pink solution of potassium permanganate to disinfect the soil. Before planting, many gardeners add 1 tablespoon of superphosphate to 1 bucket of soil mixture.

Important! A properly prepared substrate for peppers and eggplant should be crumbly, fluffy and light.

Capacities: what to choose?

If you are going to dive plants, it is preferable to choose deep containers for planting seeds. The containers are filled with soil, compacted, spilled with a warm solution of potassium permanganate. It is not at all necessary to purchase ready-made containers; many gardeners consider plastic packaging in the form of trays for Doshirak noodles to be an excellent option.

Healthy eggplant fruits.

They have sufficient depth and convenient sizes, allowing you to arrange a kind of greenhouse for quick germination of seeds. It is important not to use the bath for its intended purpose, do not boil noodles in it, so that the container remains clean. In the bottom of the bath with a knitting needle, up to 10-15 holes are made to drain water.

Attention! We are used to diving peppers and eggplants, but modern agricultural technology completely denies this experience. Some gardeners have long been growing these nightshades without picking, without needlessly disturbing the weak, fragile roots of capricious plants. Seeds can simply be sown in separate pots; high disposable glasses serve as excellent containers for this.

When transplanting into a greenhouse or garden bed, the glass is gently kneaded with hands, extracting the plants without any harm to the roots. Well-washed milk bags lined with foil inside also serve as excellent containers for seedlings.

Advice! If you are going to do without a pick, it is better to place two seeds germinated in a damp cloth in each pot. After the emergence of seedlings, a strong sprout is left; in a weak one, the leaves are simply pinched off.

Seed preparation

If you are a beginner gardener, choose the most unpretentious varieties of peppers and eggplant, resistant to diseases, with a short growing season (110-120 days). With proper care, you can get a good harvest from such plants.

The first leaves on the shoots of pepper.

If you have purchased expensive seed material from a well-known, proven agricultural company, it may already be ready for planting. Such seeds are usually sealed in colored capsules, or simply placed information about their processing on the packaging.

If you bought raw seeds, you will have to carry out the preparatory activities yourself:

  • For disinfection seeds peppers and eggplant are kept for 30 minutes in a warm pink solution of potassium permanganate. After that, they are washed in cool running water.
  • In order for plants to be strong, resistant to diseases, they soaked in a solution of "potassium humate" for 1 day. The color of the solution should resemble the color of weak tea.
  • germinate seeds laying them between cotton pads. To prevent the discs from drying out, they are sprayed from a spray bottle about once a day. It is not recommended to strongly fill the seeds with water.

Where to place seedlings?

If possible, plant seedlings in a room facing southwest, southeast. Thus, you will provide the plants with optimal conditions for growth - bright lighting, not too long daylight hours.

Seeding procedure

Advice! Modern agronomists recommend spreading the seeds on well-compacted soil, filling them with loose earth, and watering tender seedlings from a spray bottle. For this reason, when watering, the seeds do not go deep into the soil, they germinate quickly.

Let us describe the experience of sowing seeds in a plastic tray from under the Doshirak noodles. The container is filled with soil, compacted with fingers, watered with a weak solution of potassium permanganate.

Good seedlings of eggplants and peppers.

After 10 hours, seeds are laid out in rows on a compacted surface, observing an interval of 2 centimeters between them. The container includes up to 20 plants. Seeds are covered with fluffy, loose earth, the layer of which does not exceed 1.5 centimeters. Carefully moisten the crops with a spray bottle.

The bath is placed in a transparent plastic bag for food, installed in the evening - near the battery, for a day - on the windowsill. If you have plastic windows, you need to put a foam plate under the bottom of the bath. It will give additional protection to fragile plants from the cold.

If you did everything right and the home-made greenhouse started working, within 12 hours condensate droplets will appear on the package, and the seedlings will be friendly, fast. The bag is not recommended to be removed until most of the seeds have sprouted.

Cultivation and further care

top dressing

In order for seedlings to grow quickly, gain green mass, they are fed with nitrogen-potassium fertilizers, for example, Kemira-Lux. For the first top dressing, 20-30 grams of the product is used per 10 liters of water.

The second feeding requires nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus. In 10 liters of water, it is necessary to dissolve 60 grams of superphosphate and 30 grams of potassium salt.

Seedling dive

12 hours before the proposed picking, the seedlings are abundantly watered with warm, settled water. It will be easier to remove the plant from moist soil. The plant is taken out of the ground with a lump of soil with a wooden popsicle stick, planted in a previously prepared container.

Irrigation of sown seedlings.

The ideal size of the hole is 2-3 centimeters, while the roots should fit freely in it. They are pinched in the only case - when it becomes necessary to restrain the rapid growth of seedlings. After light compaction, the soil is mulched with peat, and the nightshade will no longer be in danger of drying out.

Watering and lighting

Plants are watered as the soil dries, each gardener determines the watering intervals independently. First, water with a spray bottle or a teaspoon, then - from a small watering can. Water before watering should stand for at least a day. Direct sun exposure to wet leaves causes burns. Therefore, it is better to water the seedlings in the morning or evening hours.

Seedlings need hardening, it is carried out after the appearance of permanent leaves. To begin with, the window is opened for 10-20 minutes, then for an hour or more. When steady heat sets in, the plants are taken out to the balcony, veranda or greenhouse for the whole day, and returned to the windowsill in the evening. The room temperature should be 25°C during the day and 15°C at night.

Ideally, seedlings should be under bright, diffused light from 8 am to 8 pm. At night, the backlight is turned off, the seedlings are covered with an opaque material. Drafts, high temperature are harmful to her. If the batteries are very hot, they are covered with thick, damp towels. Sprouts need uniform lighting; for this, the containers are rotated every three days.

When to plant in a permanent place?

Transplantation is a big stress for plants, 12 hours before this event they are abundantly watered with water at room temperature. The best time for disembarkation is a cloudy day or a cool evening.

Common mistakes

Cold plastic window sills are not the best place for seedlings. So that the plants do not get sick with a “black leg” from hypothermia, thin foam plates should be placed under the containers. It is necessary to harden the seedlings gradually, sharp temperature fluctuations have a detrimental effect on it. You should also not allow a strong drying of the earthy coma, so as not to weaken the seedlings.

It is not for nothing that peppers and eggplants are called pantries of vitamins. You can always buy them in the store, but home-grown vegetables are much healthier and tastier. Dealing with naughty southerners is not so difficult if you arm yourself with the knowledge presented in this article. Proper agricultural technology will allow even novice gardeners to get a good harvest.

Members of the nightshade family, peppers and eggplants, are slow growing, have a long growing season, and are heat demanding. In most Russian regions, they are grown in seedlings. To get a good harvest, it is important to plant eggplants and peppers for seedlings on time.

When to sow peppers and eggplant seedlings?

Eggplants and peppers are quite capricious. To ensure good germination and proper development of seedlings, it is important to comply with all conditions, from seed preparation to the correct choice of soil.

The time of sowing for seedlings of peppers and eggplants is also very important. Some gardeners believe that the sowing dates can be shifted until March. The shortened period of growing seedlings is compensated by bright illumination.

By installing powerful electric lamps over containers and seedlings, you can accelerate the growth and development of seedlings.

In this case, the growing period will be reduced to 90 days. These terms are calculated for central Russia, in the southern regions peppers and eggplants are sown in mid-January, planted for permanent residence in late April - early May. After mid-March, sowing peppers and vegetables is not recommended. The exception is heated year-round greenhouses, in which fruiting can last until late autumn and even the beginning of winter.

Many gardeners plant peppers and eggplants for seedlings according to the lunar calendar. The days are favorable for sowing when the Moon in the first phase is under the influence of Scorpio, Libra, Aries or Sagittarius.

The exact dates depend on the year. The most successful for planting peppers and eggplants can be considered the periods from January 17 to 20, from February 13 to 16, from March 11 to 13 and from March 16 to 17.

Soil for seedlings of pepper and eggplant

Soil for seedlings may have the following composition:

  • Humus, sifted and washed sand, soddy land in a ratio of 2: 1: 1, it is additionally desirable to add wood ash in the amount of 1 tbsp. l. per 1 kg of substrate;
  • Humus, peat or compost, sand in a ratio of 2:2:1;
  • Peat, leafy soil, humus, old sawdust in a ratio of 4:2:1:1;
  • Humus, leaf earth - 3: 2.

You can start preparing the soil for growing pepper and eggplant seeds for seedlings in the fall. Store the finished substrate in a cool place, this will prevent it from drying out. When adding sand, it must be thoroughly washed. Before sowing eggplant seeds or other crops for seedlings, the soil is sieved to remove large coarse particles and disinfected to destroy pathogens.

Growing seedlings of pepper and eggplant

Approximately 15 - 20 days before sowing, old seeds should be checked for germination. To do this, take 10 seeds of pepper or eggplant and lower them in cloth bags into warm water (25 degrees) for 24 hours, after which you need to remove them from the water, place them on a plate and put them in a warm place (30 degrees), constantly keeping seed sacs moist. Somewhere in 4 - 6 days, our seeds will hatch. If only half of 10 seeds germinate, such seeds are suitable for sowing.

Now the seeds prepared for sowing should be disinfected. To do this, they are placed for 20 - 30 minutes in a strong solution of potassium permanganate. By the way, potassium permanganate has recently disappeared from pharmacies, so take care of purchasing the drug in advance.

After keeping the seeds in a solution of potassium permanganate, they must be washed with water and soaked in the following nutrient solution: 1 teaspoon of one of the following preparations should be diluted in one liter of water: Effekton fertilizer, liquid Potassium Humate, Agricola - Vegeta or plain wood ash.

In one of the selected solutions with a temperature of 26 - 28 degrees, you need to lower the seeds in fabric bags for a day. Such treatment in a nutrient solution contributes to the friendly and rapid germination of seeds, as well as accelerated ripening and an increase in pepper yield.

Seeds prepared in this way sprout when sown already on the 5th - 6th day.

Caring for seedlings of pepper and eggplant

Good care for seedlings of peppers and eggplants requires good lighting. Since in March the daylight hours are still not long enough, in order for the seedlings not to stretch out, it is necessary to organize additional illumination with fluorescent lamps or, ideally, with a special photo lamp. Plants should be in the light for 12 - 14 hours.

Lack of lighting is one of the most common mistakes novice gardeners make when growing pepper and eggplant seedlings. Plants will always strive for light, and if there is not enough of it, they will be thin and elongated.

Keep seedlings in a warm place

It happens that after planting the seeds of peppers and eggplants for seedlings, the boxes are placed on a cold windowsill. This, firstly, hinders the emergence of seedlings, and secondly, it often causes the “black leg” disease, which, as a rule, leads to the death of all seedlings.

Picking seedlings of pepper and eggplant

A day or a few hours before transplanting, the seedlings in the container should be well watered to make it easier to remove the seedlings from the ground. Each plant is dug up immediately before transplanting with a narrow small spatula.

If there is no spatula, you can use a wooden peg or spoon. The sprout is carefully pulled up and removed along with a lump of soil. You can not pull the leaves, they are very easy to come off.

The prepared substrate is poured into containers and crushed. A hole is made in the center with a depth of 2-3 cm. The roots of young seedlings should fit freely. Pinching the roots is not recommended. Pinching is shown only for overgrown seedlings, the rapid development of which needs to be slightly slowed down.

The sprouts are planted shallow, excessive deepening can cause rotting of the stems. Freshly salted seedlings are sprinkled with a layer of peat.

To make the roots as comfortable as possible, after planting, you can gently pull on the stem. The soil around the seedling is lightly compacted. If it settles, you can add a little more peat.

Watering seedlings of pepper and eggplant

Before sprouts appear above the soil surface, seedling boxes or cups with crops are kept under a film, and the soil is sprayed with water once a day, preferably in the morning.

With the first shoots, the seedlings of these crops are no longer moistened for 2-4 days, and then the film (or other covering material) is removed and the seedlings are watered abundantly 1-2 times a week as the soil dries up. For a successful picking, it is necessary that the soil is crumbly, which means it has time to dry out. Therefore, seedlings need to be watered 1-2 days before performing this procedure. After picking, they again take a break for 4-5 days, and then resume watering in the mode of 1 time per week.

Before planting adult seedlings in open ground or a greenhouse, the amount of water for irrigation is gradually reduced, and 1-2 days before planting, seedlings stop watering altogether.

First feeding of seedlings

For intensive growth and the acquisition of immunity to many diseases, for the first time, peppers and eggplants are fed with nitrogen-potassium fertilizer.
