How to hang a chandelier on a suspended ceiling - step-by-step instructions for proper installation. Photos of suspended ceilings in a hall with a chandelier and lamps - the best options in the interior. Which chandelier can be hung on a suspended ceiling

And chandeliers. However, the specifics of a stretch ceiling impose a number of significant restrictions on the installation of chandeliers. How to choose the right chandelier for a stretch ceiling?

Selection of lighting for a suspended ceiling: general rules

At its core, a stretch ceiling is simply a fabric or film that is stretched (fixed) on a special profile. It is very sensitive to heat; at temperatures above 60 ° C it becomes elastic and begins to deform and stretch. Therefore, choosing a chandelier for a suspended ceiling is, first of all, choosing a model with the safest possible arrangement of light bulbs. In addition, there are several other factors to consider:

To connect some types ( LED, halogen) lamps will require the installation of a power converter, which in operating condition generates quite a lot of heat. Therefore, it is not recommended to install converters in the gap between the main ceiling and the tension ceiling, where ventilation practically absent: due to overheating (failure to comply with thermal conditions) they will quickly break. It is better to install them in ventilated niches with free access, and simply lay wires over the canvas.

To direct the light flux - in order to avoid black circles formed from overheating on the surface of the stretch ceiling - it is better to choose models with horns (lamps) directed downwards.

An alternative option is a glossy ceiling, which “doubles” the number of lamps due to re-reflection. Therefore, instead of six lamps pointing down, you can install three pointing up. But at the same time use light bulbs with low heat emission.

For plate-type chandeliers, an important factor is the absence of a metal base. During operation, the metal body heats up intensely, which is dangerous for the stretch ceiling.

Advice! Preference should be given to a lamp that has many low-power bulbs, as opposed to a chandelier with several powerful bulbs. It is optimal for the light bulbs to be in closed shades.

Glossy suspended ceiling has excellent mirror properties, so all the “insides of the chandelier” will be reflected on its plane, so you should choose models with hidden, inconspicuous internal wiring.

Lamps and chandeliers for suspended ceilings: selecting lamps

For chandeliers installed in a suspended ceiling, in principle, lamps of all existing types can be installed, albeit with certain restrictions:

  • Incandescent lamps - the worst choice for a stretch ceiling. Very low (no more than 3%) efficiency with very high heat dissipation, so the power is limited - up to 60 W. And even with such a low power, the lamp should be placed at a distance of at least 25 cm from the ceiling level. In conditions modern standard apartment This option is difficult to implement in practice.
  • Halogen lamps – another controversial option. With a slightly higher efficiency than incandescent lamps, halogen lamps heat up more. But they have an undoubted advantage - the light they generate is very close in its spectral composition to natural sunlight.
  • Energy-saving lamps They practically do not heat up, so they can be located quite close to the ceiling, their plus is a fairly high efficiency. However, such a lamp requires a particularly careful approach - there is mercury vapor inside it, and if such a lamp is broken, it will be necessary to carry out special degassing treatment in the room. In addition, these lamps are contraindicated for installation in rooms with high humidity.
  • Best combined with suspended ceilings LED bulbs . Their main advantages are high efficiency with minimal heat generation, long service life, and compact dimensions.

Installation of a chandelier on a suspended ceiling

The fixtures for installing the chandelier must be mounted on the main ceiling before installing the tension ceiling. The type of fastener is determined by the model of the chandelier and the method of its fastening. There are three main ways to install a chandelier on a suspended ceiling:

  • on the ceiling hook;
  • on a cross-shaped plate;
  • onto the mounting plate.

Mounting a chandelier on a hook

This is the simplest and at the same time reliable way to fix a chandelier, especially since in modern apartments the builders have already taken care of installing a hook and supplied electricity to the installation site in the slab channel. Otherwise, using a special anchor or dowel, a hook is attached to the main ceiling (into the concrete floor). It is important to correctly determine its height - it should not protrude beyond the lower edge of the future ceiling, so for control it is worth pulling a fishing line along the level of the expected ceiling.

After installing the ceiling, by touch they find the place where the hook is fixed, and under it, with a special glue, attach a plastic heat-resistant ring. It is important to choose the right size - the ring must be completely covered by the decorative cap of the chandelier. You need to wait for the glue to dry completely and cut the fabric along the inner perimeter of the ring. Remove the electrical wiring through the resulting hole, fix the chandelier on the hook, connect the wiring using terminal blocks and check the functionality.

It is necessary to carefully consider where the chandelier will be placed, since after installing the stretch ceiling, changing its location will be problematic

Chandeliers for suspended ceilings: the ABC for homemade

This article talks about ceiling chandeliers for suspended ceilings and the secrets of their installation. A priori, the owner of the apartment can install any lamp, but some limitations of the model range still exist. This is due to the issue of safety of PVC film, which can lose its elasticity and “spread” from constant heating by light bulbs.

Features of chandeliers for suspended ceilings

The question immediately arises, what chandeliers can be used to avoid local overheating of the coating from the light bulbs? Stretch ceilings are exposed to high temperatures up to 60 °C only once during installation. When heated, PVC film becomes elastic, stretches well, takes on the required shape and cools down, remaining quite elastic.

Choosing the right model

To know for sure which chandelier to choose, remember a simple reminder. So, in order for the PVC coating to remain in its original form for a long time, the following is taken into account:

  1. Direction of the light flow - it should not “rest” against the ceiling, so the horns of the lamp should be directed not up, but down/to the side.

  1. The optimal distance between the horns and the ceiling is from 30 to 40 cm.
  2. The ceiling chandelier must be equipped with a reflector.
  3. The surface of the device should be smooth, the corners should be rounded. This will become relevant if the neighbors flood - the walls of the water bag, that is, the ceiling, fall onto the chandelier and the slightest burr/sharp corner will tear them apart.

  1. Ceiling height - you need to start from it to decide which chandeliers are suitable for the room and which are undesirable (plafonds can be considered universal, but a hanging chandelier is good only for spacious rooms).

When deciding how to choose the right ceiling lamp, you need to take into account the texture of the ceiling. Matte PVC and fabric stretch ceilings are not much different from the usual painted ones. Glossy ones are similar to a mirror and equally clearly reflect the beautiful and the ugly.

Given this property, it is necessary:

  1. Carry out installation work with gloves.
  2. The number of light bulbs in the lamp will double. Will the abundance of sparkling dots get on your nerves?

  1. It is undesirable to install a chandelier with large horizontal planes. You will have to wipe them more often than usual, otherwise all the dust will be visible from below.

It shines but doesn’t warm

The choice of light bulbs for a lamp should be treated no less carefully, because each type has a certain radiation intensity, spectrum, heat release and service life. Let's quickly go over the types of lamps, taking into account these parameters:

  1. An incandescent lamp produces a pleasant yellowish light, similar to sunlight, is inexpensive, and even a child can change it. The disadvantages include colossal heat transfer (which in our case is not welcome) and a relatively short service life - up to 1 thousand hours, which is almost 3 months with 12-hour operation.

  1. Halogen is also a “hot thing”, its white light does not distort the color gamut, but it depends on voltage drops and requires connection through a voltage stabilizer.
  2. Luminescent - has long ceased to irritate with the dead light, the spectrum has expanded significantly, the light is soft and does not hurt the eyes. The high cost is compensated by the enormous operating potential - up to 10 thousand hours. The lamp heats up slightly and is well suited for chandeliers.

  1. LED – miniature, “long-lasting”, economical. You can choose anything from cool day to orange if you wish. Popular in starry sky type chandeliers.

The optimal power of an incandescent lamp in a chandelier 40 is a maximum of 50 W, and a halogen lamp is 35 W.

When deciding how to choose safe light bulbs, you should not ignore their appearance. The modern design of fragile products is amazing - pear-shaped, candles, spirals, arcs, balls. Transparent, matte, painted, mirrored can turn a chandelier into one of the treasures of Aladdin's cave.

How to make a mortgage

The mortgage can be wooden blocks, but most often it is made from moisture-resistant plywood - it is durable, does not dry out, and it is easier to find a small piece of this material than, for example, OSB.

Installation of the mortgage has the following sequence:

  1. The mortgage is cut out. A hole for the cable is drilled in the center;
  2. The surface is sanded and treated with an antiseptic;

  1. Hangers are screwed to the mortgage using LN 3.5x9.5 self-tapping screws (the same ones that are used when installing profiles under plasterboard walls. They are elastic and rigid enough to support a 10-kilogram chandelier);

  1. The platform with screwed hangers is attached to the base ceiling with self-tapping screws and dowels. A mortgage made of wooden blocks is attached directly to the base ceiling with self-tapping screws.

Hanging a chandelier: rules and nuances

Depending on the design features of the lamp, you choose how to mount it - hang it on a hook or screw it to a bar (regular, cross-shaped, I-beam).

The installation method is indicated by the fasteners included in the kit:

  1. Hook;
  2. Strips: regular - for small light chandeliers, cross-shaped - for shaped lamps (round, oval, rectangular), I-beam - for massive devices.

The rules for installing any chandelier under a suspended ceiling are generally the same:

  1. Laying of wires (possibly in an open way), installation of a voltage converter, installation of a hook/mortgage is carried out before installing suspended ceilings;
  2. An additional platform is required for the chandelier. It should coincide in area with the base of the lamp. It is to this that the strips on which the device will be held are screwed;

Sometimes it is not clear how to hang chandeliers with a large base on cross-shaped strips. In order not to cut a huge hole in the coating, you can make 5 mortgages instead of one. 5 rings will be glued under them and the same number of holes will be cut.

  1. There should be a distance of about 2 mm between the canvas and the mortgage;
  2. Installation of the platform is carried out after installation of the frame for the suspended ceiling;
  3. The diameter of the ring should allow free access to the mounting when installing the chandelier, and should be placed under the decorative cap of the chandelier/reflector.

Installation of the lamp on the strips

When the suspended ceiling has taken its place, you can begin connecting the chandelier to the suspended ceiling:

  1. Find the location of the mortgage using a plumb line (which will be discussed below) or according to the plan. When moving by touch, do not forget to wear gloves so as not to leave marks, especially on glossy fabric;
  2. Outline the platform;

Make a copy of the mortgage note out of cardboard in advance. By combining it with the real one under the film, it will be convenient for you to outline it.

  1. Cut out the inside of the film;

If you don’t have a construction knife, you can cut with a stationery knife. It is quite elegant and sharp and cuts cleanly.

  1. Pass the cable through the central hole of the platform and the cut-out ring;
  2. Install the studs on the bar symmetrically to the holes in the lamp body;
  3. Screw the slats to the platform;
  4. Strip the ends of the wires from the network and the chandelier, connect them with the corresponding colors in the terminal block;

Before connecting, do not forget to turn off the power to the apartment or entrust this work to a specialist.

  1. All that remains is to secure the base of the device on the studs and screw in the hardware.

Even if the chandelier is inexpensive, it is better to hang it with an assistant.

Lamp on a hook

Let’s make a reservation right away: chandeliers on a hook do not need an additional platform. If the old hook has been preserved from previous times, it is enough to simply cut a hole in the thermal ring and hang the lamp in the old place. To install a new one, you will need to drill a hole in the ceiling and screw in a new hook.

Depending on the weight of the chandelier, a fastening element of the appropriate diameter is selected: for a lamp weighing 3–5 kg, a rod with a diameter of 2–3 mm is suitable, for 8 kg – 4 mm, 10 kg – 5 mm. First, a hole for the dowel is drilled with a depth equal to its length, then the fastener is screwed into the dowel.

Problems in such an elementary procedure can literally appear out of nowhere. We are talking about longitudinal voids designed to improve the sound and heat insulation of the slab.

You can get clearly between the voids and the fasteners will be screwed in perfectly. Otherwise, you'll just have to take another dowel - like Molly or butterfly. Their operating principle is that they “spread out” in the void, preventing the dowel from falling out.

The expansion zone makes it difficult to tighten the Molly dowel all the way. Make a lever by threading something long and iron into the hook - a pipe, a piece of reinforcement, the handle of a hammer (iron!).

But how to hang a chandelier on a suspended ceiling if its weight is very large? In this case, you need to use a notched drive-in anchor:

  1. Using a drill with a Pobedit tip, drill a hole 5 mm long longer than the anchor, and the diameter, as they say, is close;
  2. Before installing the anchor, carefully blow out the hole (it’s good to do this with a blower);
  3. Hammer the hardware with a rubberized hammer, or cover it with a rubber/wooden spacer;
  4. Drive in the liner, placing a metal rod against it, until it stops, wedging the collets;

  1. Screw in the hook.

Read carefully on the packaging the size of the anchor and what weight it is designed for. It is recommended to load the anchor no more than a quarter of the maximum load so that it does not simply fly out of the hole.

The fastening hidden by the canvas is a little problematic to find. We cannot see through the canvas, it is impossible to intuitively guess its location, and fumbling blindly with our hands is also not an option.

  1. From the hook, lower the plumb line until it touches the floor;
  2. Mark the point of contact on the floor, for example, with a corrector, cover it with tape so that it does not wear off;
  3. After installing the ceiling, it is enough to lower the plumb line to the point from a stepladder. The opposite end of the thread will point to the desired place where the chandelier will be attached to the suspended ceiling.

  1. Glue the thermal ring, cut it inside;
  2. Hang the chandelier on the hook;
  3. Attach the wires;

  1. The decorative cap is raised close to the canvas and secured.

Chandelier replacement

If the interior has changed or you are simply tired of the old lamp, the question may arise whether it is possible to change the chandelier on the suspended ceiling. Yes, such an operation can be carried out, but with some reservations:

  1. If the device is mounted on slats, the slats of the new chandelier should have a similar length. They may be a little longer, but not shorter, and were placed on mortgages.
  2. If the strip is longer and the mounting holes do not match, new ones are drilled after appropriate markings.

Don't forget to save your sales receipts. If you have to return/exchange a new chandelier, it is better to do it without a scandal.

If the lamp was attached by yourself, consider that you already know how to remove it. Dismantling takes place in the reverse order of installation: the hardware is unscrewed, the body is removed from the studs, and the electrical circuit is opened. Do not forget to turn off the power supply to the apartment. The option with a hook does not cause any problems at all and there is no point in discussing it.

Today we will talk about ways to install a chandelier on a suspended ceiling.

A little about stretch ceilings

Constant attempts to decorate your home, as well as premises intended for receiving people (restaurants, cafes, etc.) leads to the emergence of new finishing materials. This applies to all components of the room, including the ceiling.

Many different materials are used to decorate the ceiling. One of the popular ones now is a suspended ceiling.

It is a thick film, tightly stretched over the entire area of the room.

This allows you to create a perfectly flat flow surface without any transitions or joints. It looks really beautiful.

But the film itself is not placed on the surface of the ceiling; it is fixed to a special frame fixed to the walls of the room, at a short distance from the main ceiling.

In a way, a suspended ceiling can be called a false ceiling that hides the main one.

This ceiling decoration looks aesthetically pleasing and beautiful, but there is a small nuance - the film cannot be load-bearing; trying to attach anything to it will lead to it stretching or tearing. This leads to the need to think in advance about mounting lighting equipment - chandeliers, shades, etc.

A suspended ceiling involves the installation of chandeliers, but this operation has its own characteristics, which we will describe.

So, it was decided to decorate the room with a suspended ceiling. You won’t be able to stretch the film yourself, but you can do the preparatory work to secure the chandelier.

Features of choosing a chandelier for a stretch ceiling

First you need to decide on the chandelier itself. When choosing, you need to take into account several parameters to avoid problems in the future:

  • You should not select chandeliers with a small height (you need to ensure a sufficient distance between the chandelier lamps and the ceiling film to avoid the possibility of sagging of the film due to the heat generated by the light bulbs);
  • It is advisable that all lamps be placed in separate shades (they will additionally protect the captivity from overheating);
  • It is better to choose a chandelier that uses several lamps, the more of them, the better (with a large number, even low-power lamps will provide good lighting, and they will not affect the film);
  • When choosing, you should pay attention to the protective cap that will cover the wiring, as well as the chandelier fasteners (this cap needs to be large enough. This will primarily facilitate the installation of the chandelier);
  • The protective cap should not have sharp edges (to avoid the possibility of cutting the film);
  • You need to decide in advance on the fastening method.

Methods for attaching a chandelier

The last point mentioned, fastening methods, is the most important for the correct installation of the chandelier on a ceiling covered with film.

Since chandeliers can have several types of fastening, you need to immediately decide on the fastening in order to carry out the preparatory work correctly.

At the moment, three methods of fastening a chandelier are used.

The first - fastening to a mounting hook is the simplest and most common.

It can be used for many lighting devices and can provide both small and fairly large chandeliers.

The second method is fastening to a mounting plate. A small wooden beam is used as a mounting strip, which is attached to the main ceiling, and a chandelier is already attached to it.

Usually used for not very large chandeliers.

The last method is usually used for large chandeliers that have significant weight - mounting on a cross-shaped bar.

Preparatory work

Now about the preparatory work itself. They are carried out even before the film is stretched, but already with a frame mounted on the walls for it. You should immediately decide on the location of the chandelier.

If the room was already habitable, and there was a chandelier in it, there is nothing special to invent, unless, of course, a decision was made to move its location.

The selected installation location must have suitable wiring for powering the chandelier.

If it will be installed in place of the previous one, you should estimate the length of the protruding wire - it should be long enough to ensure easy connection of the chandelier.

If the installation location is moved, or the room is new and there is no wiring yet, it should be provided to the place where the chandelier is attached.

Moreover, it is not necessary to hide the wire, because it will be hidden by the film. It is only important to secure it to the main ceiling so that it does not sag.

To ensure that the base for installation does not protrude beyond the level of the film, and at the same time is not far enough from it, you need to stretch a fishing line across the entire room so that it passes through the place where the chandelier is attached.

The ends of this fishing line must be secured to the film frame, and the line itself must be taut. This will allow you to determine the position of the film after it has been stretched.

Installation of the mounting base

Attaching the mounting hook is, in principle, simple. It is enough to make a hole of the required diameter in the main ceiling using a hammer drill, and then screw the mounting hook itself into it.

A stretched line will allow you to correctly select the length of the hook that should protrude. The hook should not reach the fishing line by about 1-2 cm.

Installation of a base made of wooden beams is done a little differently. First you need to decide on the length of the beam itself - it should be the same length or slightly longer than the mounting metal strip that comes with the chandelier.

To secure the beam to the ceiling, a metal building profile is used.

First, the height at which the beam will be located is measured, and the pieces of the profile required in length are cut off. There must be at least 4 of them to secure the timber.

A stretched line will help determine the level of the film. The lower edge of the beam should not reach the fishing line by 0,5-1,0 cm.

If necessary, the profile can be used as a suspension - this is if the distance from the main ceiling to the film level is significant.

Using dowels, the profile sections are attached to the main ceiling, and the timber is attached to them with self-tapping screws.

Before fixing the beam in the center, you need to make a hole in it for the wiring to come out.

After all installation work, you need to pull the wiring through the hole and secure its ends so that they do not interfere with further work.

If the fastening will be using a cross-shaped mounting strip, you will need plywood thick 10-12 mm.

From it you need to cut a square, identical in size to the cross-shaped bar.

In the center of this square you need to make a hole for the wiring.

Installation of a plywood square is similar to installation of a wooden beam.

First, the position of the square is replaced, all measurements are taken and, using pieces of metal profile, the plywood is fixed to the main ceiling.

At this point, all preparatory work is completed; all subsequent work will be done after stretching the film.

After the film is stretched, you can proceed to the next stage of work - installing the chandelier.

To do this, you will need special heat-resistant rings.

Superglue, construction knife, wiring connectors, self-tapping screws, screwdriver or screwdriver.

Attaching the chandelier to a hook

The first step is to find the location of the hook. You can press lightly on the film to find the hook.

You need to glue a heat-resistant ring to the place where it is located. Its diameter must be selected depending on the size of the hole that will be needed to access the mounting platform.

During further work, it will not damage the film sheet.

The ring is glued with superglue, and you need to make sure that the glue is on the entire surface of the ring, which will be pressed against the film.

Omissions are unacceptable, as they can lead to tearing of the fabric.

After gluing the ring, you need to check the tightness of its fit. Then, using a construction knife, a hole is cut in the film to access the hook.

The wiring is pulled out through the hole. Afterwards the chandelier is hooked onto the hook and the wiring is connected. The sagging wire is hidden under the film.

All that remains is to lift the protective cap to hide the hole and fasteners of the chandelier.

Installing a chandelier on a mounting plate

Installing a chandelier on a beam is done a little differently. First you need to find the location of the timber, and stick a heat-resistant ring in this place.

In this case, its diameter should be such as to ensure ease of access to the beam, but it should not be larger than the size of the protective cap.

Then the mounting strip of the chandelier is secured to the beam using self-tapping screws. When tightening the screws, it is important not to press them in completely so as not to bend the plate.

Which chandeliers are suitable for suspended ceilings? Almost any chandelier can be installed on the hanging canvas. The main thing is to properly fix the lighting fixture and choose a suitable mounting. The chandelier can be recessed or sagging. You can insert halogen recessed or LED light bulbs into the lighting fixture. To decorate the bathroom, it is better to use the first option. In other cases, it is more advisable to use LED lamps.

If you have a large hallway or living room, it is recommended to use flat chandeliers. If they are installed correctly, such a lighting device can be recessed in the tension fabric. The distance between the flat chandelier and the base ceiling is only 20-22 centimeters.

Chandeliers can be designed in the following style:

  1. Classic. Built-in chandeliers, designed in a classic style, are elegant and symmetrical. They fit perfectly into rooms designed in the Empire or Provence style.
  2. Country. The lamps in such a chandelier can be carved or wooden. Country-style lighting fixtures go well with glossy stretch fabrics.
  3. High tech. These chandeliers have an unusual configuration. Lighting fixtures designed in a high-tech style are needed if you want to focus attention on the ceiling.

When choosing a chandelier, you should definitely take into account the texture of the canvas. If the ceiling is glossy, then an unusual configuration with LED bulbs is best. It is best to use built-in ceiling fixtures designed in country style.

Choosing a chandelier for the suspended ceiling in the bedroom

Why is it best to install a chandelier in the bedroom? Designers claim that ordinary lamps will look tasteless and will not help recreate the atmosphere of home comfort. It is recommended to install dish-shaped chandeliers in the room, which are controlled by remote control.

If you prefer chandeliers made in the form of a plate, then keep in mind that it should not have a metal base. Otherwise, the device will heat up and may cause the tension fabric to catch fire.

When choosing a chandelier for your bedroom, consider a number of nuances:

  • Choose chandeliers that are located at a great distance from the tension fabric. Otherwise, you will have to install special mortgages and power converters.
  • Consider the texture of the stretch ceiling. If the canvas has a photo print with any pattern, then opt for low-power products.
  • If the bedroom has a glossy ceiling, then you need to choose a chandelier in which the internal wiring is invisible.

Chandelier for a modern stretch ceiling: how to choose

Choosing a chandelier begins with selecting a suitable mounting mechanism. The built-in chandelier can be mounted on a specialized hook or an overhead panel, which is fixed with self-tapping screws. For installation on a suspended ceiling, you should use only those chandeliers that are fixed on a hook. Lighting fixtures that are secured with a strip are not practical to use.

If you want to screw on the shades, then keep in mind that the chandelier must have a long pendant. This detail will help to avoid overheating of the tension fabric. It is also advisable to install a reflector above each light bulb.

When choosing a chandelier, you also need to take into account the types of light bulbs. Each has a number of its own advantages and features. It is worth noting that absolutely any light bulb can be screwed into a chandelier.

There are 3 main types of light bulbs:

  1. Incandescent lamps. They are used not only as spotlights, but also as lighting. If you have a square or plate-shaped chandelier that is attached to a ring, then opt for incandescent lamps. However, remember that such products have low efficiency.
  2. Halogen lamps. The efficiency of these lighting devices is several times higher. It is worth noting that halogen lamps have a power limit of 35-36 watts.
  3. LED bulbs. These products have the highest efficiency. It is most advisable to use LED lamps, as they last a long time. In addition, these products rarely fail.

LED chandeliers for ceilings: advantages and features

LED lamps have become widespread due to their high performance characteristics. These products are perhaps the best replacement for energy-saving lamps. Most often, a special IR remote control is used to control LED chandeliers.

Advantages of LED lamps:

  • Long service life. LED light sources last 2-3 times longer than halogen lamps.
  • Economical. LED lamps consume 60% less electricity than halogen lamps.
  • Variety of color spectrums. You can even purchase colored lamps to decorate the ceiling. It is advisable to use such light sources if the room is designed in fusion style.
  • Safety. LED lamps create radiation that is completely safe for the human eye. In addition, there is no flickering effect when operating this product.

If you have suspended ceilings made of PVC panels, it is recommended to use LED lamps with external bulbs, as they do not lead to heating of the panel. In other cases, luminaires with internal bulbs can be used.

Why do you need mortgages for chandeliers under a suspended ceiling?

Mortgages are a special platform on which the chandelier is installed. Regardless of what types of lighting fixtures are used, mortgages should be installed at the stage of installation of suspended panels. Remember that if the chandelier sags after installing the mortgage, then you should completely disassemble and change the platform.

It is recommended to use thick plywood to make the embed. This material has high fiber viscosity, as a result of which a mortgage made from plywood will be the most durable. To decorate the mortgage, a polyurethane rosette can be made.

The procedure for installing a mortgage for a chandelier:

  1. Mark a place for the chandelier.
  2. Cut a rectangle out of plywood. It must match the size of the chandelier platform.
  3. Drill a hole in the resulting rectangle and thread electrical wires through it.
  4. Sand all edges of the plywood with sandpaper. Otherwise, burrs may form around the embed and damage the hanging fabric.

We install lamps and chandeliers for new suspended ceilings

Installation of spotlights or chandeliers on a suspended ceiling begins with preparatory activities. First you need to make holes in the canvas and carry out all the necessary communications. After this, you need to mark the mounting location for the lighting fixtures.

The lamps are installed in the following order:

  • Connect the necessary wires.
  • Attach special racks to which the spotlights will subsequently be attached.
  • Install the brackets.
  • Connect the wires to the terminals.
  • Press down the spring fasteners.
  • Adjust the level of the lamp.

When connecting lamps, you need to connect a wire to each device in the distribution box. Remember to wear gloves if you work with halogen lamps.

The procedure for installing a chandelier on a suspended ceiling:

  1. Cut a hole in the hanging fabric.
  2. Secure the hook.
  3. Hang the chandelier from the ceiling.
  4. Lift up the decorative cap.
  5. Secure the cap.

How to remove a chandelier from a suspended ceiling with your own hands

Removing a chandelier from a stretch ceiling is easy. First you need to dismantle the decorative parts of the structure. To do this, use a spatula, drill and a set of screwdrivers. After you remove the decorative elements, be sure to turn off the power. Otherwise, there is a high risk of electric shock. Experts recommend completely cutting off the power in the house.

Dismantling the chandelier is carried out in several stages:

  • Remove lampshades and light bulbs.
  • Unscrew the decorative cap.
  • Remove the hook.
  • Disconnect and move the wires to the side.
  • Insulate 3 wires on the ceiling.

If you have a dish-shaped chandelier installed, then you first need to unscrew the bolts. To do this you need to use a Phillips screwdriver. Before connecting the wires, check that there is no voltage using an indicator screwdriver.

Installation of a chandelier on a suspended ceiling (video)

Installing and dismantling a chandelier on a suspended ceiling is not at all difficult, provided that the basic rules and safety precautions are followed. If you decide to use a chandelier to decorate a room in which a suspended ceiling is installed, take care of choosing the optimal light bulbs. It is recommended to use energy-saving or LED lamps. Also, do not forget to install a durable plywood backing and cut holes in the panels for lighting fixtures.

Every novice home craftsman who decided to independently install a glossy ceiling from PVC film asked himself this question. This article will detail how to install a chandelier on a suspended ceiling with your own hands.

How to choose the right chandelier or lamps

First, a few theoretical digressions. Glossy or matte stretch ceilings are made from polyvinyl chloride film. This material is primarily plastic, which has certain limitations when installing lighting fixtures on it.

Strong heat can damage the ceiling material. It may melt or lose elasticity, causing it to rupture. Therefore, it is recommended to use energy-saving lamps for lighting, since they do not heat up much.

There is also a limitation on the power of recessed ceiling lights. It should not exceed 50 W. If you choose chandeliers for a suspended ceiling in a store, you must follow these simple rules:

  • Please ensure that the metal parts of the lighting fixture adjacent to the ceiling do not become very hot.
  • Chandelier lamps or shades should not be pointed at the ceiling. This will cause the color pigment of the ceiling fabric to burn out.
  • The configuration of the chandelier should not be too intricate. During installation there will be a high risk of damaging the PVC tension fabric
  • Chandeliers whose lighting elements are located close to the suspended ceiling cannot be used for suspended ceilings

Ceiling chandeliers for suspended ceilings have been selected and you can proceed to installation.

What options are there for installing chandeliers?

There are two main options for PVC film:

  • Installation of an overhead chandelier on an embedded part

All two options are very simple in nature. Even a novice master can hang a chandelier on a suspended ceiling. Let's consider each option in detail, but before that you need to prepare the necessary tools.

Mounting a hanging chandelier on a ceiling hook

To do this, a hole is knocked out in the existing ceiling (usually concrete slabs) in the center of the room. There are voids in the concrete slabs and it is necessary to make a hole so that a hook support can be conveniently installed there.

As a support, use a piece of reinforcement with a diameter of 10–16 mm and a length of at least 30 cm (depending on the weight of the chandelier). In order to correctly determine the center of the room, it is necessary to mark its diagonals on the ceiling with painting thread. Their intersection will give the exact center of the ceiling.

Important to remember! When punching holes in slabs, there is a risk of damaging old electrical wiring. Previously, it was laid in the voids of slabs. Take precautions and focus on switches and mounting locations of old lamps.

When the hole is punched, a support is inserted into it and a hook is hung on it. After this, new lighting wiring is installed with clamps to the concrete floor. It is recommended to lay the wire in a corrugated plastic sleeve. All exposed ends are temporarily insulated with electrical tape.

After this, they begin to install the stretch ceiling. Before this, a construction plumb line is tied to the hook and a mark for the projection of the hook is placed on the floor. It is easy to find the hole for the chandelier after stretching the fabric.

When the canvas has cooled and stretched, a thermal ring is glued to it at the location of the chandelier with special glue. After the glue has dried, use a sharp knife to cut out the film inside the ring. The chandelier can now be hung on a hook and connected.

The cup of the chandelier is adjusted according to the ceiling level. Sometimes the cup may have burrs, so its edges adjacent to the canvas must be carefully sanded. The installation of the chandelier in the suspended ceiling on the hook is completed.

As an option, you can not punch a hole in the ceiling, but use an anchor hook for the chandelier. To do this, a hole is made in the existing ceiling for an anchor. When the hook rod is screwed in, the anchor becomes wedged in the concrete.

Installation on embedded part

This option is used for attaching light overhead chandeliers. The work is carried out after the stretch ceiling has been marked and the molding is attached to the walls.

The chandelier on the suspended ceiling will be installed on the embedded part. It represents a square plywood blank with a thickness of 10 mm. U-shaped galvanized hangers are attached to it in the corners (direct hanger for plasterboard ceilings).

The finished structure is attached to the existing ceiling. To do this, the legs of the suspensions are mounted to the floor slabs with 6 x 40 dowels (you can use “quick installation”).

Important to remember! The embedded part should not be lower than the level of the suspended ceiling. A protruding structure will spoil the appearance. The workpiece is mounted 2-3 mm above the level of the tension fabric.

A hole is drilled in the center of the plywood part and the lighting wire is brought out into it. When the embedded part is installed, the ceiling fabric is stretched.

After the canvas has cooled, use your hand to feel for the location of the embedded part and glue the thermal ring. When the glue has dried inside the ring, use a knife to cut out the PVC film and install the chandelier mounting strip to the plywood using wood screws.

The chandelier is connected to the lighting wire and secured to the mounting strip with mounting screws. The installation of an overhead chandelier on a suspended, glossy PVC ceiling is completed.
