Commentary by Sheikh Saduk :

Allah has ninety-nine names, and whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise. To enumerate them is to embrace them and understand their meaning, not to enumerate them. And success belongs to Allah.

Allah

Allah is the One Who must be worshiped and is not worthy of worship ( ibadat no one but Him. And you say, "He has always been God" in the sense that worship belongs to Him. Therefore, when the polytheists got lost and began to think that worship is obligatory for idols, they called them goddesses, that is, those to whom worship belongs. And it is said: the basis of the word "Allah" is " halahu". Arabs say: aliha r-rajulu" or " ya'lahu ileihi”, that is: “the person fell into confusion (or was afraid)” and “it’s scary for him.”

The only (One), the One (wahid, ahad)

Meaning of "One" ( ahad) in the fact that He is unique in His essence, and He has no dimensions, parts and organs of the body, and in relation to Him counting or multitude is impossible. For many things in themselves are a sign ( verse) His uniqueness, through which He pointed to Himself. It says: "Allah has always been the only ( wahid)". And the second meaning of this is that He is the only one, and there is no one like Him, and no one is a partner in His unity ( wahdaniya), because anyone who has a likeness is not really the only one. And they say: “So-and-so is the only one among people” in the sense that he has no equal in one quality or another. And Allah is the Only One, not in the meaning of number, for He is Great and Holy! - is not counted as one among equal bodies. However, He is the only one, and there is no equal to Him.

And some who know have said of the One and One: "He is One, because He is one, and the First, and there is no second beside Him." Then He created the creatures needing each other. The word "only" wahid) is a number when counting, before which there is nothing. However, Allah is before any numbers, and to the “One”, no matter how you turn this word and try to divide it, nothing is added, and nothing is subtracted from it. One multiplied by one gives one, and nothing is added to it, and the expression "one" itself has not changed. So there is nothing before Him. And if there is nothing before Him, then He is the One who produced all things; and if He is the One who produced all things, then He is the One who will destroy them; and if He is the one who destroys them, then there is nothing after Him. If there is nothing before Him and after Him, then He is the only one from eternity. And therefore they say: "The only one, the One."

However, the word "single" ( ahad) has a feature that is not inherent in the word "only" ( wahid). If you say: “There is not one (not the only one) in the house wahid)", then this "one", which is not in the house, can be a pet, a bird, an animal or a person. However, if you said: “There is not a single one in the house ( ahad)", then this applies only to a person - that a person is not in the house. And the word "one" cannot be used for multiplication, counting or division: it is not a number. "United" ( ahad) means "internally unique". The word "one" wahid) is applicable as a number when counting or dividing. You say "one" wahid), "two", "three" and so on. "One" is the basis of numbers; itself goes beyond the number. And you say, "One times two," or "three," and so on, and that's the multiplication, or you say, "One is half of two," or "one third of three," and that's the division. However, for the word "single" ( ahad) all these operations are forbidden, and you cannot say: “one, two, three ...”, and you cannot say: “one multiplied by one”, or “one multiplied by one”, or “one is half of two” .

Samad means "sir" seyyid). In this sense, one can say: "He has always been samad". The master to whom his people obey, not doing business without his order, is called " samad". The poet says:

“I took up my sword and said to him:

Take it sharp, oh lord samad

And at " samad' is the second meaning. Samad- the one to whom they aspire and resort ( masmood ileihi) in their requests. In this sense, one cannot speak of Allah: “He has always been samad because here He described Himself – He is great and holy! - one of the qualities of action ( sifat fe'ali).

Another meaning is " samad”- one who has no body and no voids.

In the chapter on Surah Tawhid in this book, other meanings of the word " samad and I won't repeat myself.

First and Last (awwalu wa ahir)

First and Last: This means that He is the First without beginning and the Last without end.

Hearing (sami')

The first meaning of this is: if there is an audible, then for it there must be someone who hears.

Second meaning: that He hears prayers ( dua), that is, answers them. And Allah - may His name be exalted! - is Hearing in His essence.

Seer (Basir)

One of its meanings: if there is a visible, then there must be a seer. You can say about Allah: “He has always been Seeing ( basir)”, but you cannot say about Him: “He was always a beholder ( mubsir)", because the beholder needs what He is looking at, and the existence of it becomes mandatory. Allah is Seeing in His essence. And the fact that We describe Him as Hearing, Seeing is not equivalent to describing Him as Knowing. But the meaning of this is that He is the Understander ( mudrik). And such is the quality sifat) Alive, without flaws.

Strong, Irresistible (kadir, kahir)

The meaning of "Strong, Irresistible" is that all things are incapable of resisting Him and what He wanted to bring about in them. And His power extends even to that which does not exist, and He is able to bring it into existence. Allah said about Himself, He is great and holy: "... Lord of Doomsday(1:4), but the Day of Judgment has not yet come. And it is said: "He was always irresistible", that is: all things are not able to resist Him and what He works in them. He was always in possession of them, even when they were not, as it is said: Lord of Doomsday even though there is no Judgment Day yet.

High, Highest (ali, aala)

High ( ali) has the meaning "irresistible" ( kahir), and Allah is High, the Possessor of sublimity and greatness, which means - the Possessor of power, dominance and possession (of things). The Arabs say: "The king was exalted by the ascension ( ala uluvvan)". "High position": so they say about anyone who has nobility and greatness. However, the meaning of elevation, ascent and elevation - as well as lowering - does not apply to Allah, He is great and holy!

The second meaning of this is that He is above all things and every likeness and what the ignorant ascribe to Him or the erring ones think of Him. He is High, Exalted above what the unjust say, by great exaltation.

But the "Highest" ( aala): its meaning is that He is High, Irresistible. In this sense, He said to Musa (A): “ Don't be afraid, you are the highest (you are the highest)”(20: 68), that is: you are invincible, victorious. He also said to the believers, urging them to fight: Do not become weak and do not grieve, while you are higher, if you are of the believers!(3:139), and said: The pharaoh has risen from the earth(28:4), i.e.: defeated the rest and took possession of them. And the poet says in the same sense:

"When we have risen above them and conquered them,

They left them lying to feed the eagles and snakes.

And the second meaning of the “Highest”: that He is above all likeness and likeness, that is, He is cleansed of this. As He says: He is above what is attributed to Him as partners!(10:18).

Enduring (baki)

Eternal ( tanks) - means: existing without any events happening to Him, and without disappearing. Permanence is the opposite of disappearance. And among His qualities ( sifat) "Eternal" ( daim) has the same meaning as "Eternal" - that is, the One Who does not pass and does not disappear.

Creator (badi‘)

Creator ( badi') means: He Who creates the new ( mubdiu l-badai') and gives being to things without any previous example and model. From the same root comes the word bid'ah” in the sense of something new and first. And this is His word: Say: "I am not a novelty among the Messengers"(46:9), i.e.: I am not the first messenger. AND " bid'at” is called an innovation in religion.

Creator (bari)

Creator ( bari) meaning: He is the One Who created the creatures ( bariou l baraya), that is, created creations.

The most generous (akram)

And its meaning: The most generous.

Explicit (zahir)

The meaning of "Explicit" ( zahir) in that He reveals His signs ( verse) as evidence of His power, manifestation of His wisdom and clarification of His arguments. All creatures are not able to create even the smallest and weakest of these signs, as He said, He is great and holy: “Verily, those whom you invoke besides Allah will never create a fly, even if they gather together for this" (22 : 73). Therefore, there is no creation of His that would not bear witness to Him and His unity ( wahdaniya) from all sides. Allah has renounced the description of His essence, yet He becomes Manifest through His signs and evidence of His power; and He is hidden in His essence.

The second meaning of this is that He is the Explicit, the Conqueror, the Powerful over whatever He wills. And this is His word, He is great and holy: And they turned out to be winners zahirin) "(61:14).

Hidden (batin)

Hidden ( batin) has the meaning that He hid from the comprehension of thoughts, and He is Hidden, Whom nothing embraces. For He is before all thoughts, and after them, and preceded all that is known, so that it does not contain Him. Thoughts were weakened, but did not penetrate into His essence, and the eyes were exhausted, but did not comprehend Him. He is the Hidden of everything hidden and the secret of everything hidden. He hid in His essence, but He manifested and exalted himself through His signs. He is Hidden without any veil and Explicit without any approach.

And the second meaning of this is that He penetrates the hidden of any thing, for He is the Knower, the Seeer of what they hide from Him, and what they manifest. So, the meaning of "Hidden" is that Allah is great and holy! - knows all the secrets, and not in the fact that He hid in something, or something hides Him in itself.

Alive (hey)

Meaning of "Alive" ( hai) in that He is the Active, Guiding ( fa'al mudabbir). He is Living in His essence; death or disappearance is forbidden to Him, and He does not need life in order to be Alive through it.

Wise (Hakim)

"Wise" ( hakim) has the meaning that He is the Knower. "Wisdom" in the language means "knowledge". And this is His word, He is great and holy: He grants wisdom to whom He wills(2:269).

The second meaning of this word is that He is Solid ( mukhkam), and all His deeds are firm, perfect, and corruption does not comprehend them.

Knower (Alim)

Knowing in the sense that He is Knowing in Himself. He knows all secrets and penetrates everything hidden; nothing is hidden from Him, and not even the weight of a speck of dust is hidden from Him. He knew all things before they were created, and He knows them after they were created - secret and obvious, hidden and obvious. And in the fact that His knowledge of things is opposite to the knowledge of creatures - proof that He is great and holy! - opposite ( bihilaf) creations in all their senses. Allah is Great and Holy! - is Knower in His essence. The "knower" is also understood to mean one whose deeds are perfect and skillful. And it is not said of Allah: “He knows things by His knowledge,” lest something eternal be established along with Him. But they say about Him: “He is essentially Knowing,” and they also say about all qualities ( sifat) His essence.

Gentle in the meaning: He is Gentle towards those who disobey Him and is not in a hurry to punish them.

Guardian (hafiz)

The Guardian is the one who preserves. This word is used in the sense that He keeps all things and removes disasters from them. It is not described through "storage" in the sense of "knowledge". Just as we are only in a figurative sense described through the storage of the Koran or knowledge: in the sense that if we have studied them, then we save them.

Truth (Hakk)

He is the Truth haqq) in the sense that He is always true ( muhikk). The second meaning of this is that the worship of Allah is the truth, and the worship of anything other than Allah is a lie. And this is His word, He is great and holy: Allah is the Truth, and what they worship besides Him is a lie(22:62). That is: they (idols) are lies, and they will perish, and have no reward or punishment for anyone.

Counting (hasib)

Counting ( hasib) is used in the sense that He counts every thing and knows about it, and not a single thing is hidden from Him. The second meaning of this is that He keeps a score for His servants, counting their deeds and giving them a reward for them. The third meaning is that He is Sufficient ( kafi). And this is His word: This will be a recompense from your Lord and a gift numbered"(78:36) - that is, sufficient.

Praised (Hamid)

praised ( Hamid) - in the meaning of "praised" ( mahmud). Praise is the opposite of swearing and reproach. When you are pleased with the deeds of someone and talk about it among people, they say: "He praises such and such."

In the war Hunayn alone said: "It is better for me to be my lord ( rabb) became Quraysh than a man from the tribe of Hawazin.

Gracious (rahman)

Gracious ( rahman) means: "encompassing the mercy of His servants." He embraces them with food and blessings from Himself. And it is said: this is a name from the names of Allah in His Books, by which no one is called except Him. They say about a person: "merciful" ( rahimu l-qalb), but do not say about him: "merciful" ( rahman). For the Merciful is able to remove disasters, but the Merciful ( rahim) from His creation is not capable of this. And Allah is Great and Holy! - is Gracious ( rahman) in relation to all worlds, but Merciful ( rahim) only in relation to believers ( muminun).

Merciful (raheem)

This word is used in the sense that He is Merciful ( rahim) in relation to believers ( muminun). He embraces them with His Mercy ( rahmat) at the completion of their affairs. As He said, He is great and holy: He is merciful to the believers"(33:43). "Merciful" ( rahman) and "Merciful" ( rahim) are two names derived from the word " rahmat(mercy). As Allah, Great and Holy is He, said to His Messenger (dbar): We only sent you as a favor rahmat) for worlds(21:107), that is: good for them. And the Qur'an is said to be "guidance and mercy" ( huda wa rahmat). However, mercy does not have the meaning of "kindness" and "softness" ( rikka), for this is not the nature of the Lord.

The second meaning of this is that He is described in terms of the given quality ( sifat) in view of His well-being and security ( salamat) from everything that creatures have from shortcomings, damage, death, transfer, disappearance and death. He says great and holy He is: For them the dwelling place of the world ( salam) at their Lord(6:127). And the world is He, Allah, He is great and holy, and His dwelling place is Paradise. Paradise can be called "peace" because everyone who enters it is at peace from everything that comprehends the inhabitants of the earth, such as: illness, death, old age, and so on. He is the abode of peace (security) from disappearance and disease. And His word, He is great and holy: "Peace be with you" from the rulers of the right hand”(56: 91), that is: well-being to you from them. well-being ( salamat) in the language also means "health" and "safety". And this is the word of Allah, He is great and holy: And when they are addressed with the speech of the ignorant, they say: "Peace"”(25: 63), that is, they speak with them sensibly and firmly.

Allah is above being like His actions. His actions are flesh, blood, bones, hair, nerves, arteries, organs, lights, darkness, earth, sky, stones, trees and everything else from the types of creation; and all this is His actions and His creations, He is great and holy! And all this is an indication of His unity ( wahdaniya), witnesses of His uniqueness and that He is opposite ( bihilaf) His creation, and that which He has no likeness.

Some sages said this in describing the narcissus flower:

For all this is transient, created, weak, weak from all sides, and all this is an indication of the One Who created it: Mighty, Strong, Pure from the meanings of all of the above. Nothing is like Him, but everything from all sides points to the One Who created it and obliged to point to Himself. Allah is above this with a great ascension!

He created the earth, and everything that came out of it separated from it. He said: " And (I swear) by the earth, the owner of the splitting"(86:12). He split it, and it split. He is close without contact and separated from creation without path or distance. But in this separation from them, He is next to them, and in this opposition to them, He is close to them. In the same way, approaching Him does not take place through any paths or distances, but only through submission to Him and the best worship. For Allah is Great and Holy! - close and near; but His nearness is without top and bottom, because it knows no distance. For He is before all above and below, and He is not described in terms of above and below.

And this is like His word, He is great and holy: He owns the power mulk) on the day they blow the trumpet"(6:73), or His word:" And the power amr) on that Day - to Allah"(82:19), or His word: "... Lord ( malik) doomsday " (14).

And another meaning of this word is the destruction of something. So, they say about the dead that he was taken ( cabaza) Allah. And this is His word: Then We made the sun her guide. Then we take kabasna) her (shadow) to Himself by slowly taking away ( kabz) "(25:45-46). And here also applies His word, He is great and holy: Allah keeps ( yakbizu) and generously gives, and to Him you will be returned!(2:245). He generously gives mercy to His servants and withholds what He wills from His benefits and His help.

"Hold" ( kabz) also has the meaning of “grasping something with the hand”, but this is not inherent in Allah, He is great and holy. If the “withholding” that Allah mentioned had the meaning of “grasping with the hand,” then He could not withhold and generously give at the same time. Allah, at any time, takes souls and generously grants inheritance and does what He wants.

Yet He is comprehended through His signs ( verse) and is proved through His attributes ( ‘alamat) and arguments, and through them He becomes obvious, and He is described through greatness, glory, power and splendor, for there is no one like Him among His creation, and there is no equal to Him among His creation.

Meaning of "Generous" ( kareem) is majestic. And this is the word of Allah, He is great and holy: This is a generous Qur'an(56:77), and His word: Eat, because you are great, generous!"(44:49). And the second meaning of this is that He is the Giver.

And this is in a figurative sense, because light is radiance, but Allah is great and holy! - above such a great ascension. For the lights are created and transient, but He who created them is eternal, and nothing is like Him. In the same way, in a figurative sense, the Qur'an is said to be light, because people are guided by it in their religion, just as they are guided by light when they walk along the road. And this is the meaning of the words that the Prophet (DBAR) is the illuminator.

All-Giving (Wahhab)

Meaning of "All-Giving" ( wahhab) It's clear. He grants to His servants what He wills, and endows them with what He wills. And this is His word, He is great and holy: He does what he wants; bestows on whom he wills the female generation and gives to whom he wills the male"(42:49).

Allah explained that He will guide the believers after their death, and said: “And those who are killed in the way of Allah, He will never mislead their deeds: He will guide them and keep their state in order" (47: 5) . direct guide ( thin) after death means nothing more than reward and salvation. And this is His word, He is great and holy: Verily, those who believe and do good, their Lord will guide them according to their faith.(10:9). Direct guidance is opposed to error, which is the recompense of the disbelievers ( kafir). Allah said, great and holy is He: Allah leads astray the unjust”(14:27), that is: destroys them and punishes them. And so is His word: He will lead their deeds astray(47:1), i.e.: destroy and frustrate their deeds for their unbelief.

Creator (khaliq)

He is the Creator Khaliq) in the sense that He created all creation. And the basis of this word in the language: measurement. The Arabs say: “I won when I measured ( halaktu)". Our Imams (A) said that the deeds of man are created, but the creation of order ( khalk takdirin), and not an existential creation ( khalk takvinin). When Isa (A) created the likeness of birds out of clay, he also created them as a creation of ordering, while in reality only Allah is the Creator of birds, He is great and holy.

The best of helpers (heiru nashirin)

"Best of Helpers" heiru nashirin), as well as "The best of the merciful", has the meaning that doing good ( khair), when he does it much, is called "the best" ( khair) in a figurative sense.

He who sows garlic will not reap fragrant flowers.”

Grateful (shakur)

He is Grateful shakur) in the sense that He thanks the slave for his deeds. And this is in a figurative sense, because "gratitude" in the language means "appreciation for the blessings." However, He is the one who bestows all blessings. But in regard to giving rewards to the obedient for their obedience, He referred to Himself as "Grateful" in a figurative sense.

Great (azim)

Great ( azim) has the meaning: "Sir" ( seyyid). Master among men is called the one who is great among them. The second meaning of this is that He is described in terms of greatness ( azamat) in view of the fact that He possesses all things and is Powerful over them. The third meaning - He is great because everything else before Him is insignificant and humble. He is Great in power and Great in dignity. The fourth meaning is that He is Glorious. However, His greatness cannot be understood in terms of the immensity of dimensions: width, height, length or weight, because these words refer only to creation, and they are the signs of His creation, but do not refer to Allah, He is great and holy. Also in the hadeeth it is said: “He is called the Great, because He created a great creation, and He is the Lord of the great Throne and its Creator.”

He is called "Insightful" ( lateif), because He is kind to His servants, kind to them, and endows them. They say: "Such lateif to people, that is, be kind to them. And the second meaning: that He is subtle and insightful in His creation and management of it. The hadeeth says, "He is called the Perceptive because He is the Perspicacious in His creation," just as He is called the Great because of the greatness of His creation.

Healing (shafi)

Meaning of the word "healing" shafi)" It's clear. As Allah said, He is great and holy! – about Ibrahim (A): “ And when I get sick, He heals me(26:80). So in total His beautiful names are ninety-nine.

Blessed (tabarak)

But "Blessed" tabarack)! This word comes from "blessing, grace" ( barakat). And He is great and holy! - the essence of the Possessor of blessings and grace. He performs grace, creates it, and bestows it on His creatures. Blessed be He and above having a son, wife or partner! And the words of Allah, great and holy He is: Blessed is He Who sent down Discrimination upon His servant, that he may become a herald to the worlds"(25: 1) they say that Allah, Who is eternal, and Whose blessings do not fail, and Whose remembrance is grace for slaves, He is the One Who" sent down Distinction upon His servant, that he might be a herald to the worlds". Discrimination is the Quran. It is called Difference, because through it Allah is great and holy! He made a distinction between truth and falsehood. The same slave to whom he was sent down is Muhammad (DBAR), and He called him a slave, so that people would not take him as their god and begin to worship him. Here is the rejection of those who go overboard with him (Muhammad, peace be upon him). Allah explained that He sent down this Difference to him so that he would become a herald for the worlds and convey to them the threat of disobedience to Allah and the torment of His retribution. "Worlds" ( ‘alamun) are people.

“He to Whom belongs the kingdom of heaven and earth, and He did not take Himself a son,” as Christians say when they attribute a son to Him, raising lies against Him and going beyond the limits of monotheism. “And He has no partner in His kingdom. He created every thing and measured it by measure” — that is, He created every thing as He knew. He did not create anything out of fun, carelessness or recklessness. But He created everything according to His knowledge of the rightness of this and that it will benefit His servants in the matter of their religion, and that this is just in relation to the creatures. For if He did not create it as it was described, according to His knowledge, then there would be contradictions and injustice in the creations, and they would go beyond wisdom, harmony and guidance into chaos and disorder - as happens in the case of those slaves, who go beyond the limits in their deeds and do what they do not know the measure of. This does not mean that Allah created a certain measure by which he knows what needs to be created further. For this happens only in the case of one who himself does not know the measure of what he does. But Allah is Great and Holy! – has always been Knower of all things. By "measured it by measure" is meant that He created every thing according to His knowledge and the measure that is in that knowledge, so that His servants would know the extent of His works, and their time, and their place. And this measure from Allah is the Book and the message which He gave to the angels so that they might know it. And the word of Allah is not known, except by the magnitude of what He Himself revealed, so that they do not go beyond the truth into falsehood, and from intelligence into error, and from explanation into deceit.

If the word " rabb' is used in Arabic with the definite article ( ar-rabb), then it has the same meaning as "Lord" in Russian, that is, it applies only to the Creator, and not to creatures.

Razik- “Giving inheritance”, “Nourishing”, “Giving food ( rizq)».

In Arabic " mumin" comes from the root " amana', meaning 'safety'. That's why " mumin" can mean "giving security" or "seeking security".

Aziz also has the meanings "strong", "powerful", "glorious", "majestic", "valuable".

The name of the angel "Jabrail" also comes from this root.

As we have already seen, Allah has several names indicating His quality as the Creator of creation: Khaliq, bari, badi, sled, dawn. Each of these words has its own peculiarity and its own shade of meaning. " Fatir" comes from the verb " fatara”, meaning “to split”, “to open”. " Fatir” means “Creative” in the meaning of “Opening”. Allah says: This is the natural quality fitra) with which Allah created ( fatara) of people"(30: 30), that is, literally -" such is the quality on which Allah opened the people. It is also mentioned " mubdi” (“Beginner”, “Creator”) as the name of Allah.

This name is often found in the Torah, in the Old Testament. For example: “In the year of the death of King Uzziah, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and exalted, and the edges of His robe filled the whole temple. Seraphim stood around Him; each of them had six wings: with two each one covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And they called to each other and said: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts! the whole earth is full of His glory” (“The Book of the Prophet Isaiah”, 6:1-3).

Islamic theologians emphasize that the names of Allah are not fixed in a strict sequence from the outside, but are resonantly associated with the inner aspiration-will of the human soul to answer the Divine call. Man is able to comprehend revelation only when he comprehends its true meaning and meditates on it. The Holy Quran is the uncreated Word of Allah, but in order to perceive It, one must comprehend It with the fullness of the heart, the depths of the soul - Sheikh Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymin substantiates this idea (Ideal rules related to the beautiful names and qualities of Allah. First Russian edition. . Translated from Arabic Kuliev Elmir Rafael oglu, editor and author of the Preface to the Russian edition, Doctor of Law Sheikh Abu Umar Salim Al-Ghazzi):

"/p. 34: / The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, also said: “Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred minus one, and / p. 35/ whoever counts them will enter Paradise.” This hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari (6410), Muslim (2677), at-Tirmizi (5/3507) from the words of Abu Hurairah, may Allah Almighty be pleased with him. Moreover, the version of at-Tirmizi contains interpolation. To count-count means to remember these beautiful names by heart, to realize their meaning and, finally, to worship Allah in accordance with their meaning. However, this hadith does not indicate that the number of beautiful names of Allah is limited to this number. If this were so, then the text of the hadith would be, for example, the following: "The names of Allah are ninety-nine, and whoever counts them will enter Paradise."

Therefore, the hadith says that anyone who counts the ninety-nine names of Allah will go to Paradise, and the last sentence of this hadith is not an independent statement, but the logical conclusion of the previous thought. Imagine that a person says, “I have a hundred dirhams and I am going to distribute them as a donation.” This does not mean that he does not have other dirhams that he is not going to donate.

As for what names of Allah are meant, there is not a single reliable report about this. And the hadith that lists the ninety-nine names of Allah is weak. We are talking about a hadith that says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “Allah has ninety-nine names, and whoever counts them will enter Paradise. This is Allah, except Whom there is no other deity, the Merciful, the Merciful ... ". This hadith was narrated by at-Tirmidhi (3507), al-Bayhaqi in the collection “Shuab al-Iman” (102), Ibn Maja (3860) and Ahmad (2/258) from the words of Abu Hurairah, may Allah Almighty be pleased with him.

Sheikh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah wrote: “The enumeration of names does not refer to the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, in which experts in theology and hadith are unanimous” (See “Majmu al-Fatawa”, vol. 6, p. 382) . He also wrote: “Al-Walid narrated this hadith from the words of his teachers from Sham, which is mentioned in some versions of the hadith” (see “Majmu al-Fatawa”, vol. 6, p. 379). Ibn Hajar wrote: “The hadiths on this subject, transmitted by al-Bukhari and Muslim, are devoid of flaws. However, al-Walid's version differs from the others. It is confusing and possibly contains interpolation” (See Fath al-Bari, vol. 11, p. 215).

Since the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, did not determine the ninety-nine names of Allah, Muslim theologians spoke about this different opinions. As for me, I have collected ninety-nine names that I managed to find in the writings of Allah Almighty and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

99. Al-Witr (The One)

In this sequence, I have arranged eighty-one names from the writings of Allah Almighty and eighteen names from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. At the same time, I doubted whether the name “al-Khafi” (Welcoming, Condescending) should be attributed to the beautiful names of Allah, because in the Holy Quran this epithet is associated with the prophet Ibrahim. He said: “Peace be with you! I will ask my Lord to send you forgiveness, as He is indulgent towards me ”(Sura “Maryam” / “Maryam” /, ayat 47). I also hesitated in connection with the name “al-Muhsin” (the Virtuous) because I did not find the corresponding hadith in the collection of at-Tabarani, however Shaykh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned this name along with others.

At the same time, some other beautiful names can be added to this list, for example: “Malik al-Mulk” (Lord of the kingdom), “Zul-Jalal wa al-Ikram” (Possessing greatness and glory).”

Sheikh Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen above demonstrated an attempt to subjectively build 99 beautiful Names of Allah up to their new sounds and meanings, and this once again raises the problem of their stricter classification. Indo-Pakistani Ahmadi theologians, when working on the Russian edition of the Holy Quran, did not turn to the Sunnah at all, but proceeded from the verses of the Koranic suras. And they identified not 99, but 108 attributes (syfats), listed below (in my three-digit numbering) in comparison with the accepted list of al-asma al-husna (two-digit numbering of Names):

44=001. Watchful - (Al-Rakib) - 33:53.

79=002. Beneficent - (Al-Barr) - 52:29.

003. Middle - (Al-Karib) - 64:19; 34:51.

004. Guardian - (Al-Wakil) - 3:174; 4:82; 11:13; 17:3; 33:4.

005. Fast in reckoning - (Sari-ul-Khasab) - 13:42.

006. Quick in the account - (Sari-ul-Khasab) - 10:33.

13=007. Sculptor - (Al-Bari) - 59:25.

008. Leading the visible and the invisible - (Alim-ul-Ghaib wal Shahadat) - 59:23.

31=009. Leading all the subtleties - (Al-Latif) - 6:104; 12:101; 22:64; 31:17; 42:20.

38=010. Great incomparable - (Al-Kabir) - 4:35; 22:63; 31:31; 34:24.

As you can see, there is a clear discrepancy both in the composition (from 99 to 122 and beyond) and in the order of listing the beautiful Names of Allah, not to mention the frequent absence of references to sacred texts and Arabic inscriptions of a number of beautiful Names. In general, for a long time, up to the present End Times, little attention was paid to the strictly systematic comprehension of the Holy Scriptures, only Christian theologians tried to approach the New Testament in detail, however, they are still far from its adequate understanding. So the faithful have a lot of work ahead of them.

“Just as friction on the ground cleans iron from rust, so the repetition of the Names of Allah (Allah) cleanses our hearts from everything bad,” the Prophet said. The inscriptions of 99 beautiful Names of Allah can be enjoyed on the site of the Crimean Tatar youth. My conclusion is the following - there are 99 names or qualities or attributes (syfats) of Allah, and the faithful must master and comprehend them, however, the nuances-shades of each of the beautiful Names of Allah in the pronunciation and even in the inscription in Arabic of the Holy Quran and the Most Pure Sunnah can vary , which not only creates the illusion of the existence of more than 99 names, but also opens the way to the subjective classification of these 99 names - for example, according to the scheme of 11 transcendences + 22 existentials + 33 categories, for Allah is higher than all things and therefore with his 99 beautiful names necessarily associated with Being and Nothingness.

« in the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful»

On the agenda, neither more nor less -

99 names of Allah

Muhammad himself once said: “Indeed, Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred minus one.
Anyone who remembers them will go to heaven."

Actually, the name "Allah" usually not included in the list and, characterized as higher ( al-sim al-"azam), often referred to as the hundredth.
In the lists, the names of Allah are usually given with the definite article of the Arabic language. al-.
But if the name of Allah in prayer is mentioned not as part of a phrase, but by itself, then instead of al- pronounced ya-Ya Salam- "Oh, Peacemaker!")

All 99 names can be conditionally divided into two or three groups according to their characteristics.
First, one distinguishes between the names of the essence of God (adh-dhāt) and the names of His attributes (aṣ-ṣifāt),
and secondly, they distinguish between the origin of the name: traditional names and names that follow directly from the Koran or indirectly from it.

In the theology of Islam, there are more detailed classifications, in particular, among the names of qualities, the names of mercy and severity, beauty and greatness, and others can differ.

The concepts of "tanzih" (tanzīh) and "tashbih" (tashbīh) reflect the problem of anthropomorphism in Islam.
Tanzih means the impossibility of comparing God with man.
Tashbih is the opposite of tanziha, meaning the similarity of something to something. As a religious concept, it means the possibility of describing the divine through qualities created by God. Names are attributed to tashbih Merciful, Loving, Forgiving and etc.

According to the Quran, no one and nothing can equal or be like Allah.
God has unique differences from His creations, but their essence is unknown [to us].

NB!
If the names of Allah come from derivative verbs, then Sharia law follows from such names.
For example, if the robbers repent of their deeds, then they are not subjected to the established measure of punishment, but rely on the following statement from the Koran:
« This does not apply to those who repented before you got the better of them.
May you know that Allah is Forgiving, Merciful!
»

The mention of these two names indicates that Allah forgives such people and shows compassion to them, delivering them from the established punishment.

IMPORTANT!
The names of Allah should not be used in oaths, as warned in the Hadith al-Qudsi and the Qur'an (Al-Baqarah 2:224).
Superlative feelings in the Hadith are sometimes expressed through the use of figurative oaths such attributes as the glory of God, but not names.

List of names
*

الله Allah= Allah, God, One God

The name "Allah" is mentioned 2697 times in the Qur'an.
In translations, it is often used as a synonym for the word "God", but for Muslims, "Al Lah" at the same time means " the oneness of God". The etymology of the Arabic word "Allah" is not fully understood.
It can enter the name of a person only in the form, like Abd-Allah (servant of God).

الرحمن Ar-Rahman= Merciful, All-Beneficent, Merciful, Compassionate

With the exception of the beginnings of the suras, the name al-Rahman is mentioned 56 times in the Qur'an and most often in the 19th sura.
It can only be used to address Allah. It has many meanings related to the concept of mercy. Some Islamic theologians, based on the words of Muhammad, deduce the origin of the names ar-Rahman and ar-Rahim from the Arabic word ar-Raḥman, meaning mercy.
According to the Arameist Jonas C. Greenfield, ar-Rahman, unlike the word ar-rahim, is a loanword, which leads to its complex structure of meanings.

In Islamic theology, the name ar-Rahim is considered to include all types of God's compassion (possessing mercy), while ar-Rahman means action towards believers (showing mercy)

الرحيم Ar-Rahim= Merciful

It is mentioned 114 times in the Quran in relation to Allah. Often found together with the name al-Rahman.
It is believed that it comes from the word ar-Raḥman, meaning mercy.
In Islamic theology, the name ar-Rahman is considered to include all types of God's compassion, while ar-Rahim means action towards believers and can be used as a characteristic of a person.

الملك Al-Malik= King

Here it means the king of kings, the absolute ruler, carefully guiding his followers. It can serve as the basis for the formation of a name, for example, Abdulmalik (slave of the king). Sahihi Al-Bukhari and Muslim cite the words of the Prophet Muhammad that the name al-Malik is the most accurate description of Allah as the highest king.
This name appears in the Qur'an in three linguistic forms: al-Malik (occurs five times), al-Mālik (occurs twice, see Malik al-Mulk) and al-Malīk (occurs once). The corresponding Arabic words have different semantic connotations, meaning the person whose orders are carried out, the one who owns, and the one who can forbid something to others.
In the case of 99 names, the semantic distinction is erased, and each of the forms in a particular verse emphasizes its content. In fact, they are related to each other in the same way as the names ar-Rahman and ar-Rahim.

القدوس Al Quddus= Holy

The name is based on the word Quadusa, meaning to be pure, holy.
Also, this name is translated as the Most Pure, in commemoration of the fact that Allah is free from vices, shortcomings and human sins.

The name al-Mu'min considers two aspects: God as a source of stability and security, on the one hand, and as a source of faith in a person's heart, on the other. It is explained that faith is the highest gift of Allah and it protects from any troubles.
This name comes from the verb "to believe", like the Arabic name of the believer - mumin.

المهيمن Al-Muhaymin= Guardian, Guardian, Guide, Savior

It is explicitly mentioned in the Qur'an once, but descriptions of Allah corresponding in meaning are found more than once. The word "muheimin" has several meanings, and in this case it is interpreted as the name of the one who provides peace and protection. Its theological meaning is to describe Allah as the one who protects the interests of the believers.
Its other meaning describes Allah as a witness to all the words and actions of a person, protecting their result.
Also, the meaning of the name is interpreted as a reminder that all good and bad deeds of a person are known to Allah and all of them are recorded in the Preserved Tablet.

Traditionally, the translation of this name from Arabic is associated with the aspect of strength, the ability to subjugate. IN English translations it is customary to use the term The Despot to emphasize the idea that no one can control God, and on the contrary, Allah has the power of coercion, in particular, coercion to follow one way or another. Since following Allah is the best choice, emphasizes the good for man associated with this quality of God.
The second interpretation is related to the word jabbarah, which is usually translated as " too high to be reached».
From this it follows that Allah is placed higher than anyone else.
