Wall panel made from newspaper tubes. Master Class

Panel translated from French means “piece of fabric.” But if you look at what compositions skilled craftswomen can make, you can’t call them anything other than works of decorative art. Back in the 18th century, churches and halls on the estates of rich people were decorated with mosaic panels. Modern panels have ceased to be a luxury item. Nowadays it is rather an indicator of the taste of the owners of the house.
The materials for making this kind of masterpiece can be varied. I suggest trying to make a panel from newspaper tubes.

For this we need:
- newspapers or magazines with bright pictures;
- PVA glue;
- knitting needle;
- white paper A5 format;
- frame;
- beads for decoration.

First you need to cut a newspaper or magazine into strips. You need about 30 of them.

Lubricate the edge of the strip generously with PVA glue.

We turn the corner. And we begin to twist the strip into a tube.

At the end, apply a layer of glue and hold the edge for a couple of seconds so that the tube does not unwind.

Take a colored bead. We wind the tube onto it so that it turns out to be a “snail”. We attach the edge to the base using PVA glue.

To make panels you need “snails” of different sizes. To increase the diameter, you need to glue a second one to the edge of the first tube. Then glue the second one to the third one, etc. We increase the tubes until we get the desired size.

The next step is to form a pattern from the “snails”. To do this, take an empty frame and place the “snails” in it in a chaotic manner. Next, we glue all the details to the base of the panel.

This craft can be hung on the wall in the hallway. And all guests, upon crossing the threshold of the house, will see an original craft made by themselves. In addition, with the help of panels you can hide minor repair errors or stains on the wall.
Good luck!

A panel made from newspaper tubes is an unusual and affordable way to decorate your kitchen walls with your own hands. It is enough to master a couple of simple techniques to start creating original accessories from paper “vine”.

A panel is a wall decoration (usually permanently mounted) that has a decorative function, and sometimes even “blocks a hole in the wallpaper.” In any case, this fairly large wall accessory can change the look and mood of your kitchen, emphasize its belonging to the kitchen, and give the interior a cozy and homely look. At the same time, you can do it yourself and almost without financial costs, of course, if you love creativity and are ready to try to weave such a panel yourself from newspaper tubes.

There are many master classes, photos and videos on the Internet demonstrating the procedure for working and decorating such an unusual weave. But they are all dedicated to a specific product, which may not suit the design of your kitchen. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the basic rules and basic techniques. They will help you create a unique panel, designed by you personally.

Getting ready for work

First you will need to wind a lot of tubes for weaving. You will need old newspapers, which need to be cut into long rectangles 8-10 cm wide. PVA glue is applied to the edge of each strip and then thin tubes are twisted from the corner. For ease of work, it is worth taking a knitting needle so that all blanks for the panel are the same diameter.

Keep in mind that if there is a large number of gluings in the future product, it is necessary to use very strong blanks. They are made in the same way, but from double-width strips.

You have to learn another trick that allows you to carefully grow paper vines - a method of inserting tubes into each other. Your first blanks for the panel will not be perfectly cylindrical: the base will always be slightly wider than the top tip, although you should strive for their complete coincidence. But precisely because of this, the strips can be spliced almost imperceptibly, inserting each stick with its narrow end into the socket of the previous one. Only in this case it is advisable to scroll the tubes a little more, screwing them in deeper. However, there are recommendations to simply cut off the wide “butt”, but then the transitions to the panels will not be as neat as in the photos of experienced craftswomen.

Basic techniques

In principle, all existing techniques for weaving from newspaper tubes completely repeat the work with willow vine, because, in fact, they are simply a more affordable substitute. The creation of complex elements and spectacular openwork patterns can be seen in numerous videos on the Internet. And we will present the most popular and simple techniques that even novice needlewomen can easily master here.

Concentric circles

An elementary method of weaving paper blanks for panels from newspaper tubes. The first one begins to be rolled into a tight “snail”, for reliability, coating its surface with a small amount of glue. The next vine is inserted with its narrow end inside the first, glued and wound further in a circle.

To fix the “snail”, if you need to take your mind off the panel or let the glue set, you can tie it across with a strip of fabric to prevent it from unwinding. In this way, many flat circles of different diameters are made, and then they are sewn together with strong threads in any order. The finished decoration can be covered with whatever your heart desires: herbarium, family photos or just beautiful pictures from decoupage cards.

Advice from craftswomen: before decorating, round “snail” blanks for panels need to be beaten with a hammer to get the most flat surface possible.

Donyshko

This is how the bottoms for baskets are woven, but this technique can also be used to make the same flat panel shapes. Work order:

  1. Lay 3 or 4 tubes on a flat surface in a “snowflake” pattern, crossing them at one point strictly in the center. For reliability, they can be glued to each other or secured with the tips on a cardboard mug. Place another blank under the crosshair with the butt and also secure it.
  2. Next we begin to weave the paper vine, making the same concentric circle out of it. In this case, the tube must be passed alternately from above and below the snowflake base.
  3. Gradually increase the working strip and continue weaving the web panel. If this technique is not easy for you, carefully look at photos on the Internet where baskets are woven from real vines.

As the diameter of the craft increases, additional weaving axes will have to be inserted. It is advisable to place them evenly - in the center of each sector. When the panel reaches the desired size, the protruding long ends are simply rolled inward and woven into the overall fabric.

Rope

Here, too, you should prepare a frame for the future panel, but it can already have any geometric shape. After this, each working tube is folded in half and clings to one of the guide beams, crosses and is circled on both sides around the next one. You will have to grow the vine more often and at both ends at once, so it is better to make the blanks longer. But you can weave a very neat and beautiful panel of any shape.

Decoration

The easiest way to make a plain newspaper craft beautiful is to repaint it in the desired color. This part of the work can be done either before weaving or on the finished product. The second option is more often used in cases where the panel is only the basis for an applied decor.

Painting before curling can be done with any composition - gouache, acrylic, even stain. The latter, of course, will not hide the printed letters, but it will make the newspaper softer, and it will be more convenient to weave from such tubes.

Decoupage

This is the most popular type of creativity today, allowing you to transfer complex printing designs to almost any surface. Here you need a white or very light panel base, PVA glue, a brush and elegant napkins with a beautiful pattern or special ones.

There are a lot of educational photos and videos on this technique on the Internet, but in general it all comes down to simple work. A thin paper layer with an image is cut out or carefully torn along the contour, after which it is simply glued to the surface of the painted panel. You need to act carefully so as not to tear or wrinkle the thin napkin. Try not to work with your hands, but only with a soft brush, and dilute the glue with water in equal proportions.

Decorative panel made of multi-colored newspaper tubes

In order for such a panel to fit better into the interior of the room, its color scheme must match the color and design solutions of the room.

You will need

Newspapers, PVA glue, acrylic paint in yellow, red, blue, green, acrylic varnish, silver paint in a can, brush, knitting needle, scissors, clothespin, stencil with a maple leaf.

Progress:

1. Twist tubes from sheets of newspaper using a knitting needle so that one edge is thinner than the other.

2. Divide the prepared tubes into 4 parts. One batch will be yellow, the second – red, the third – blue, the fourth – green.

3. Paint the workpieces with a brush or place in a container with paint of the desired color.

4. Set the painted tubes aside and let them dry.

5. Then roll the yellow tubes in a spiral, coating them with PVA glue along the entire length. As necessary, extend the tube by fixing the structure with a clothespin.

7. When the spiral reaches the required size, glue the end of the last tube and secure it with a clothespin until it dries. Apply varnish.

8. Make a second such spiral, but smaller in size, and then glue it in the center of the first blank.

9. Let it dry.

10. Next, take the maple leaf stencil and carefully spray silver spray paint.

Just think: just correctly rolled newspaper sheets will give the interior of your home extraordinary originality, and you will be saved from stress and negativity from the rhythm of life. So, we reveal the creative secrets of making an unusual panel from newspaper tubes on the wall with our own hands.

Step-by-step master class with photos

Well, let's get to work on a decorative panel made from newspaper tubes.

Step 1: twist the tubes

The number of tubes depends on the desired size of the panel. Make about 50 pieces, if it’s not enough, you’ll have to add more

For our panel of newspaper tubes, we will need newspaper sheets measuring 44 by 56 cm. You can select a different size using the trial method - then the tubes will turn out larger or smaller.

You can get the hang of twisting sheets without scrap materials, but it’s easier to do this with a knitting needle or wire. Place the sheet at an angle towards you, attach a knitting needle to the end of the corner and begin to twist the “sausage”.

When there are 15 centimeters left to the end of the sheet, coat the surface with glue - so that the ends do not diverge - and continue rolling further. When finished, carefully remove the knitting needle.

Step 2: paint the tubes

Divide the number of prepared tubes in half. We paint one half with one color, the other with another. In our case, we use acrylic paint in two colors - white and lilac. If the letters show through, apply a second coat of paint (just wait until the first one dries). Or you can leave it with protruding letters - it’s even more interesting.

Now all you have to do is wait until the paint is completely dry. This will take about an hour.

Step 3: twist the tubes into a spiral

Apply PVA glue along the entire length of the tube of the same color (ours is white), twist it into a spiral.

We fix the spiral with an elastic band so that the surfaces touch as closely as possible. When the white tube is finished, continue working with the lilac tube. Thus, alternate white and lilac. You can make a single-color spiral - it all depends on your imagination. To compose the composition, we must get disks of different sizes.

Make the required number of such disks.

Step 4: Compose a composition from discs

You can't do without imagination here. First, lay out the disks on a flat surface, change their position, and generally create a composition out of them. For example, use photographs from our master class. Fasten the disks together with thick thread or wire.

Almost all of us have unnecessary newspapers and various magazines and other printed paper products. Many people try, of course, to get rid of all this, but they shouldn’t do this.

The fact is that you can make a variety of crafts with your own hands from old newspapers, and you can make various things that are necessary in the house or well decorate the interior of your room.

Newspaper is very easy to process and you don’t need to make any Herculean efforts to make something useful. Therefore, to make crafts from newspapers with your own hands, you can involve children as assistants, who will have a great desire and interest in doing something interesting and useful.

At the moment, one of the most interesting and popular areas of DIY newspaper crafts is considered to be weaving crafts from newspaper tubes.

It should be noted that this task is not as easy as it might seem at first glance. Here you need to clearly understand all the subtleties and nuances of weaving, and if you study all this well, then you can do a lot of different and fun things that will appeal to both children and adults.

So, for example, you can make a variety of decorative boxes, caskets, baskets, vases and decorative saucers, in general, for anything that your imagination allows.

This article also presents many bright and colorful photos of crafts made from newspaper tubes.

However, before starting the creative process, it is necessary to prepare the source material from which the weaving process will begin.

How to make a vine from newspaper?

Many wicker elements can be combined very well with the interior of almost any room, so most owners of country or private houses would be especially happy to decorate their premises in this style.

However, the vine that is used for weaving can cost significant financial costs, but in this case you can turn your attention to cheaper and more accessible material - these are ordinary old newspapers, from which you can make wicker crafts, while the cost of the outlay will be minimal.

So, before you start, you need to make a large number of blanks, from which some interesting craft will be made later. Therefore, first the newspaper must be cut crosswise into strips of the same size, after which we take a knitting needle and wind a newspaper strip onto it, resulting in a thin and beautiful tube, and so on until a large number of blanks are collected.

Souvenir basket made from newspaper

One of the most basic crafts made from newspaper tubes is a rectangular or square basket. This design is not particularly difficult; almost anyone can do it.

To make this product you will have to use a rectangular or square piece of cardboard, you will also need glue and scissors.

So, several tubes need to be glued onto the prepared cardboard form, and the distance between them should not exceed more than 2 cm.

Next, you need to bend each tube upward at the edge of the cardboard, but you need to do this so that the cardboard form is at the bottom and the tubes protrude upward. After which the base of the frame is ready and you can start weaving.

The weaving itself looks like this: from the very bottom horizontally we install the workpiece between the vertical elements and so on until the very top. If the tube runs out, then a new tube is put on its tip, pre-lubricated with glue, and we continue the weaving process further.

Note!

Upon reaching the required height, everything that is unnecessary needs to be firmly fastened somewhere, and glued somewhere well. For a longer service life of the product, it is coated with a special varnish.

Thus, from ordinary newspaper tubes you can make a rather interesting and beautiful basket, which will certainly be useful in the house.

At the same time, when you gain experience and skills in the weaving process, you can make new crafts from newspaper tubes, more complex and simple in shape.

In this case, you can use tubes to make almost any thing that may be needed in the house, for example, a wall shelf for storing small and light items or souvenirs.

Children's crafts

A very fun and exciting activity with paper can also be found for kids. In this case, we will talk about an interesting style of working with paper like papier-mâché.

This activity will not leave any child indifferent, and the child will learn certain subtleties of working with paper, scissors and glue. And most importantly, the child will like it and it will be educational.

Note!

So, first you need to take the main element when creating paper crafts, this is a plate that will be the basis of the future product.

The plate itself is pre-lubricated with Vaseline, then small pieces of a white napkin soaked in water are placed on it; this process must be done until the napkin covers the entire plate, only after that it is recommended to use newspaper.

The newspaper also needs to be torn into small pieces with a diameter of 3-4 cm, but no more.

All pieces of newspaper soaked in water must be placed on the top layer of a napkin; this operation must be done in several layers; it is recommended to carry out no more than 7 layers.

After each layer, it is necessary to smooth the entire surface with a brush to evenly distribute the newspaper pieces. The last layer is applied with a white napkin, after which everything must be smoothed and leveled again with a brush, and only then the product must be left to dry for one or two days.

Note!

After complete drying, the product can be removed from the mold. It is clear that during the process there could be unevenness along the edges, but this can be carefully corrected with scissors.

And the finished product can be painted in different colors, or some kind of design can be applied, and finally a thin layer of transparent varnish can be applied to the finished papier-mâché style plate.

As a result, you will get an interesting and original do-it-yourself craft made from newspapers, which can be installed in the most visible place.

Picture from magazines

Almost every home has old illustrated magazines; some people get rid of them by throwing them in the trash, while others store them and take them to a waste paper collection point.

But you shouldn’t rush into this, as you can make paper crafts from such magazines. In this case, the only thing that may be required is to cut out various pictures from a magazine and paste them on a piece of paper, resulting in a simple picture that is filled with a certain meaning.
